Well with upcoming contracts, we certainly don't have future room. If Hall moves on, they should have plenty, no? But yeah - it is underpayment. Quality not quantity. Like I said... one can dream.

As much as I would *love* him here, we have enough salary issues without trying to factor his contract into our cap. Just imagine though, eh? Hughes and Oliver. Eriksson, Virtanen, Juolevi, Woo, Sutter, our 2021 2nd and our 2022 3rd. Probably not enough.

Black people are butthurt. And they have a right to be. In some areas especially in the US, racism is still very much rampant, and still exists at a level way too high across the country. Not long ago, racism was the norm and expectation. It takes generations to get over that oppression. We in Canada are a bit more advanced in that regard, but it still happens here too. You may not view it as a big deal, but if you were black I imagine you would have a different view. No, postponing the games is unlikely to convert anyone overnight. But the more touch points a racist person has with a society that universally denounces racism, the more likely they are to tone down their own views as it becomes more socially unacceptable. By postponing a game, you show player unity against racism and you provide another one of those touch points. While I really want to watch the game tonight, if postponing it makes any difference at all in allowing someone to live an equal life then I'm all for it. To be frank, as much as I and all of us are fans, it's still just a game.

? I believe our ability to outplay Vegas in the 2nd game said a lot. It said we can hang with the best of them. It also said we can take the punishment they throw out. As long as that remains true and we can stay healthy, I think we have a real chance here. If this team isn't too broken down and they win the forecheck battle, I think we can overcome Vegas.

Yeah, I agree. He has looked great on our team, but historically he has not played this well. This is obviously a contract year when vets tend to really push themselves to excel. The problem as I see it is that at 28, this may be his last opportunity for a long and lucrative contract. If we were to sign him to, say, a 2 year deal, he is then on the wrong side of 30 and some GMs may be hesitant. I imagine he can't help but to enjoy his time here, with the playoffs and all and the chemistry he has built already and always had with Pearson. If he wants to stay, he is gonna have to make a compromise for us in salary, or Jim is gonna have to work some magic in our cap situation.

We have indeed been patient. And I am sure he is thankful. He is also, by all accounts, a great guy, and loves playing here. I expect him to be very reasonable in negotiations, though as great as the scenario is, money is a huge driver for most people. I think the flat cap has worked to our advantage, wherein most GMs are unlikely to overpay much themselves to acquire him so when he sees the market isn't out there for 7m maybe 5.5 will seem reasonable to him here? Dare to dream. It will probably be 6. I believe that in the end, he will re-sign here at some dollar figure. It is just too sweet a scenario for him to pass up. And that's good, as I just finished watching game 2 and he was spectacular.

Glad I'm not the coach.

93.46% at time of this writing. Ask the crowd earlier and you probably would have got close to 50/50. Ask mid season next season and it will be down to 75%. Proud to be a Benning supporter ever since I saw what he was trying to do. He has made some gaffs but he has also built a soon-to-be cup contender. (Hopefully already?)

WCQF: (4) St. Louis Blues vs. (5) Vancouver Canucks

Woot! What did I win? Nothing? Seems about right... -
WCSF: (1) Vegas Golden Knights vs. (5) Vancouver Canucks

This should be an entertaining series. I am a bit concerned as the team tends not to play well against the Knights, and can get overwhelmed by their speed and size. But we managed to handle a difficult Wild squad easily and just dispensed with the Champs so I do believe anything can happen. -
[GDT] Canucks vs Blues game 6. Canucks lead 3-2. 6:45pm!

That hit was questionable for sure but I find your quote hard to believe. Trying to use your skate as a knife around the neck (ear) would literally be attempted murder imo. Oh... and as far as my thoughts on the upcoming game: We can do this. The last game was pivotal. This is especially true if they put Binmington in. GO CANUCKS! -
Yeah it IS a head scratcher. I figured he just had to settle in and find chemistry but if you expect it to "come back soon" I'm pretty sure that ship set sail some 2 years back.
-
For his first game back I would rather see: Pettersson Miller Virtanen Pearson Horvat Boeser Roussel Sutter Toffoli Motte Beagle Eriksson I feel Toffoli plays a somewhat similar style as those guys and they should gel quickly. This allows TT to come back a bit more gradually in ice time.

I actually do believe that we could use another scoring defenseman not named Hughes. As. has been mentioned, perhaps Rathbone or Rafferty could be that guy at a tiny price. If our cap situation were different, I think Barrie could be a decent fit. But I think he would have to be paired with a defensive specialist, which we really don't have outside Tanev. Our team as a whole isn't exactly a defensive one as it is so I'm not sure Benning has a choice but to re-up Tanev as long as his demands are reasonable.

Thanks. Just came back to report on what I found on Twitter. Too late.

[Proposal] How Much Money Could You Lose...
kloubek replied to Down by the River's topic in Canucks Talk
Interesting question. Seeing the Canucks win a cup is definitely on my bucket list. If they make it to the finals once Covid is gone, I promised my 8 year old son we would find a way to watch a game in person. (We live in Calgary, so that is not easy nor cheap). So I guess there is an expense I am willing to pay to create an everlasting memory like that. But with that said, I would never want my passion for them to win to be skewed by a monetary return. Runs the passion. -
I am happy to see Bo being in contention for one of our fastest skaters. Remember when we drafted him? Perhaps the biggest knock on him was average skating. Really goes to show how a player can transform when they put the work in.
