  1. Entire quote pretty much my thoughts exactly. Green has the team running hard and the short shifts we saw seems to pay dividends. The Blues were not as hard playing tonight imo. Still hit us, of course, but not dominatingly so. We also hit back respectably tonight. The day off seemed to help. Blues couldn't get their cycle going with a solid forcheck and superior speed from the Canucks. I feel this game was a literal must-win. If the Blues won it, I absolutely anticipated they would finish us. Boys showed a ton of heart tonight. They can and will do it again.
  2. Glad to see Virtanen working hard and looking in the groove. Whole team is working their asses off. I know why Green puts Motte in the lineup. Keep it up boys!
  3. We do but not just Bo. We especially need Boeser on his game. I thought he would be energized and hungry but not so much. Petey needs to continue to be a 5 on 5 force. Most importantly the whole team needs to try to find another gear. If we play the same way as the last game, the game will be over before it starts.
  4. I appreciate what you're saying. However, it really isn't just our stars. Virtually every other player on the team is giving it all right now. The last game we collectively eased up somewhat but I think that is due to physical situations of being worn down by the Wild and now Blues as opposed to effort. You can absolutely tell Jake is not giving it his all. As others have suggested, perhaps he is scared of taking a penalty - which is fair, but the rest of the team is too. A lot is at stake. These playoffs aside, Jake does appear to be improving as the years roll by but it is a slow process. He is nowhere where we need him to be from a playoff perspective and we are looking to be contenders pretty quickly here. Can we afford another no-show series to see or are we better putting in another guy who will give it 100%? We know Podkolzin will, and I believe his skillset is already probably fairly close to what we get out of Jake.
  5. Probably not, but if he stays, Green will have to put up with him for longer and he has GOTTA be near the end of his rope. A new coach and a realization that he needs to commit himself better to the craft if he wants to stay in the league might give him the kick in the pants needed to do so.
  6. The announcers said it but it's worth repeating: Blues will wear you down over a series. They are a big team that dominates games primarily due to the way they play. Then they also have solid skill throughout the lineup. We had to play the Wild, who are similar in that regard. That was a physical series. Now the Blues who are even moreso - especially on the forecheck. This team is tired after all that pummelling. I believe we have hit a point with this team that we can outSKILL many if not most teams in the league. We have a lineup of solid prospects coming down the pipe over the next couple of years to suppliment that as well and to help balance our cap situation. But I think we need to get bigger. Podkolzin will help, but we can prepare for other changes now. Stecher - bless his soul - tries so hard but isn't that effective physically. He won't wear anyone down over a series. I love the guy, but with an average skillset I put him quite low on the scale of being able to help us in the playoffs. If we could sign him at 6th d money, whatever. Virtanen doesn't play like he can. If we can get a good return, it is time to say goodbye. I have supported Jake a long time but his heart isn't in it. This is the time he could shine and he isn't even sparking. When Eriksson is gone that's another spot where we could improve our size. I would imagine Benning will try to sign Tryamkin. That would make a load difference, and IMO makes Myers expendable. (He really doesn't use his size effectively, imo.) I supported the Ferland acquisition. I firmly believe that if we managed to see a Ferland of old that this series very well could not be tied right now. If he cannot play, we need to find a similar guy who can. If we could overwhelm opponents like the Blues are doing to us currently, it changes the game entirely. And with our skill? That is a cup team.
  7. Big Mac totally let up at the last moment. Another bad call. At least the boarding call was legit.
  8. Good game. By the 3rd we just looked tired and continued dominating us in OT. That's ok. If we win tomorrow, we're golden. If we don't, well, I'm not super stoked about our chances of making it past the first round.
  9. If we are gonna win OT, we need to step it up a notch. The Blues dominated the 3rd.
  10. Did I miss that he was pegged to play tonight? I would imagine Allen is a strong consideration for tonight.
  11. Who knows how many are walking around without knowing they are infected. I bet there are a ton in the US especially. And that is one of the primary reasons people still are transmitting the virus imo. Groups of people who likely believe they are healthy in close contact with each other. Knowing that there are indeed an unmeasureable amount of people out there who are asymptomatic, I do believe the mortality rate is lower than 3.5%. 10 times seems like a stretch but who knows... maybe in places where they are overwhelmed and undertested. Regardless, as implied, there are already reports of expected long term health issues for some survivors, so the risks after survival will likely exist. And even if you half the mortality rate to 1.25%, that's still a really high rate if it is allowed to run rampant. And that's the key. Yes this virus is deadly, but it's not THAT deadly. As long as it can be kept to low numbers, it is not a ton of people. Still sucks they die (RIP) but there is only so much we can do. But infection is exponential. This virus has proven to be extremely contagous. It doesn't take long for numbers to climb. The fact they haven't exploded since reopening is a testament to measures working in conjunction with warmer weather I imagine, but we gotta keep it up. If we actually hit a 50% infection rate that would be half a million dead or so at full mortality rate? No thanks. Here in Alberta, I believe we have the worst of the worst anti-protocol, anti-government advocates. I think it is a relatively small portion of the population here but they are very vocal online with a wide audience, and they put a lot of doubt in people as to potential severity of Covid. I have a hunch our numbers being higher than BC are a large result of that kind of thinking. You can see how just a few cracks in social distancing, etc can make a difference. But numbers are still pretty good right? Yup... not bad. Even here is sorta ok. And Ontario has that s**t nailed out there too. (Good job). But in September, kids will be bringing it into the schools. Classmates will bring it back to their families. Anyone with kids know what sloppy messes they are and I cannot fathom schools being able to do a good enough job protecting them. We have already seen what happened in that Georgia school and those were unslobbery (hopefully) high school students. And if that isn't enough, shortly after that we start flu season. Like most viruses, Covid has shown to thrive in cold and struggle in heat due to its shell. If we enter this timeframe already even moderately infected, that exponential infection rate already has a head start. Do not be fooled by our low numbers. This is the time for us to keep them even lower in preparation for what is to come. So... about that Russian vaccine....
  12. AaWatched Lalji from TSN comment on how 5 on 5 Petey has been outshot 0 to 16 in favour of O'Riley's line. I believe we get last line change in game 3? That may help. As expected, we are relying too much on our PP. If that dries up, we have real problems. Refs are already not exactly on our side so relying on the PP is extra dangerous when the current success rate is unsustainable. I have been happy with Green's ability to rally the troops. All the guys are playing super hard and so far good results. But like through the regular season he needs to find the right even strength plays - primarily from a defensive perspective.
  13. Hate hate hate it when a goal is taken away due to a stupid technicality like this. Next year can't come quick enough. For many reasons.
  14. I love our drive this game. (And last). We seem noticably faster than them and we are keeping up physically which is really saying a lot against the Blues. Keep it up boys! Edit: I don't blame Motte for not tapping that in. If he was a bit more aware I guess it is possible but he had very little time.
  15. Probably Bo's best goal ever? I screamed at my TV after that display. Scared the dog.
  16. There is no way the Blues want to get down 2-0 so I feel this their make it or break it game. They will make their adjustments and come out strong. Like others are saying, their bread and butter is throwing around their size, so I'm not going to lie - I fear for some of our guys. We will absolutely need to play hard as a team, but this is time for guys like Jake to shine. Gonna be exciting. Early game so my son can watch the whole thing - he will be stoked. Go Canucks!
  17. Our 5 on 5 was ineffective through the season - possibly due to the defensive systems he and his staff run. Then to lose the 1st playin game and not adapt *again* when it really counted had me seriously wondering if he was capable of taking this team to the next level. But then he adjusted the game to suit playing against the Wild and it worked in a big way. I think we are using much the same strategy with the Blues. I feel he is still learning as a coach, tbh - but if nothing else he seems to have nearly complete buy-in from the players and that is huge. But this is only one game. The Blues have the elements to do better. They are not running on all cylinders yet and if they play like they can I will be interested to see how Green draws up his battle plan.
  18. Blues had really strong surges, but we were the better team tonight through 60. Binnington was not great. Overall, we played a good, solid game. Happy to see contributions by all. Miller looked just fine, thank you very much. Wonder what that was all about... So happy!!
  19. Blues channel still claiming Miller is out. Social media wins the truth game.
  20. Edler is inconsistent and a good fill-in for that role if nothing else. But yes, we expected way too much from the guy. He has overall delivered quite well for us.
  21. He has one hell of a motor. I see him being a real favorite of Green (if he is still around in a year). The guy doesn't quit, is willing to get his hands dirty on either side of the ice and play physical throughout. I have no idea how quickly he will be able to adapt to the NHL game, but having a player who can play strong 5 on 5 as well as special teams is going to make him a really versatile addition. And if we hit on Hoglander too? Two more potential top 6 contributers on ELC not only gives us an embarassment of forward talent, but should help ease the cap crunch. Pearson needs to watch his back. I feel he is the odd man out as we move forward.
  22. Some pretty glowing reports. Some experts are finally realizing what Benning has built, and feel he will be a big part of the finished product. https://canucksarmy.com/2020/08/11/canucks-top-prospect-vasili-podkolzin-is-off-to-a-great-start-in-russia-lots-of-video-included/
  23. Me too. Dallas looked completely driveless in the 1st.
