  1. So... Of players tested in phase 2, we have about a 6% infection rate. This is WAY too high. If these players actually practiced with up to 6 teammates as per protocol, that looks like a really easy way to take up to 6 players out of a team for a couple weeks. I don't know the extent of their measures, but there is just too much that can go wrong imo. Plus factor in the possibility of some players refusing to play? This is all messed already.
  2. Benning knows whether there is a likely possibility to getting rid of LE's contract. If the waive and AHL route is where it goes then so be it. Hopefully he decides to move on and help the team out and leave with some level of late-contract dignity. I don't believe in giving up top level talent as a sweetener and I don't think JB is keen on it either. Especially after losing Madden. I was very surprised not to see Baer get picked up on waivers. Sad to see his stock so low - he needs another chance to prove himself and I feel the receiving team would be pleased to have picked him up for nothing. Of course there are concussion concerns. At least his contract isn't long. Sutter has had his ups and downs and injuries, but I don't believe we would need to give up much to move him. While overpaid, as a shutdown guy he remains pretty good. I still believe Sutter could be the kind of guy to step it up in the playoffs. Sutter Beagle Motte is pretty much elite in the defensive role. (They should be given the combined salary). Really though - somehow getting LE's contract off the books makes all the difference. He is the poster boy for lack of intensity while our team is trying to go the opposite direction. Such a shame what a failure the LE signing was and continues to be.
  3. I think the scope of how many players he really knows well is lower than he projects. He played a bit of an enforcer role during his time in Vancouver and I don't think that made many friends on other teams. This is going to be a very challenging playoffs for all - if it even happens. With players known to have covid, I think it needs to start with a 2 week quarantine of all players and staff. That in itself is a huge challenge.
  4. Style, yes. But like you say, I doubt he gets to that level either. Tryamkin? Not the same style but perhaps effective via fear?
  5. I share the same concern. Petey will be fine when he fills out, but Hughes will always be a target in the playoffs. I also worry for Stecher. But this is not a small team overall. I feel we can hang with physical teams. Just when the rough stuff happens, I don't know who will step up to lay the beat down. Surely Ferland will be advised not to fight so that really only leaves Big Mac - if he even plays. Another case to try to get Tryamkin on board asap. Our guy is bigger than your guy seems like a pretty good insurance policy on our vulnerable guys.
  6. ..and that is a totally fair position. He has every right legally to play out the contract. I would argue he *would* get a tryout at least and if he had renewed energy and ability to play he could earn a one year show-me-you-can-still-play contract. Of course, it would be less money but better than the AHL perhaps? Finish his career with class? Who knows what he is thinking. I haven't known since he arrived.
  7. To get a fresh start elsewhere to try to play a few more years instead of likely being demoted to the AHL - regardless of negligible cap savings. To reward the Canucks for hiring him when he clearly didn't want to get into the game most nights. For playing soft as butter. How many hits did he tally again? He was given the opportunity to play with virtually everyone on the team and did nothing. Does he have an undisclosed medical issue? Is it so serious he forgot how to play? If it was me, and I was already a made man, I would absolutely bow out gracefully after the free ride. How many Bentley's and yachts does one require anyway.
  8. That's a big hit to Utica for sure. We do have replenishments coming who could be even better. I really wish Boucher would have been given a few games to try to play NHL hockey again. Couldn't have been any worse than having Eriksson in the lineup.
  9. If Eriksson every wanted to do anything for this team (so far he has not) he will agree to terminate his contract after the bonus is paid. Easy peasy.
  10. Extremist views are dangerous - regardless of what ideologies are driving them. Here in Alberta, it is largely the far right hicks causing the stir with outright murderous hate for Trudeau, as well as viewpoints that are denied to be driven by racism - yet clearly are. In any case, these people are in constant states of agitation, and will accept nobody else's position regardless of overwhelming evidence contrary to their position. Sorry to say that as a white guy, it is my own race that scares me the most.
  11. I think we need to try to figure out WHY our d is failing and why we have to rely on Marky all the time. But in doing so, I really don't believe Tanev is the problem. We see how well QH plays with him, and he is clearly the best defensive dman we have. I feel losing him would really hurt. IMO, our weak D is due to two reasons. First, I feel our whole team d structure isn't working. We don't have the speed on the back end to allow our players to work deep like Green wants them to. If we turn over the puck, we rarely recover. Again, Tanev can cover for QH when he pinches in but other than that, we tend to be a bit lost out there. Second, I feel we have too many guys on the blueline who are just "there", without a definitive role: With Hughes and Tanev, their roles are perfectly clear. With Edler it is a little muddled, but he puts up reasonable points and is usually responsible on D. Our best option not named Hughes to run a PP. After that, I think we get a bit lost. Myers has size, some offensive ability, and some ok defensive ability. But really, what is his actual role? He also eats up too much cap for a guy who you generally only notice due to his height and not his stellar play. Fantenberg and Benn were expected to be 6th/7th guys but neither do anything particularly well. Neither should be relied on for a regular role. Stecher adds a little scoring and lots of effort, but he is undersized and doesn't excel at anything either. Nor does he appear to be improving. I think we need more role guys on D. If you don't have a specific purpose, make room for someone who does. Tryamkin will do nothing to help our scoring, but at least he is a role player. His job: Crush the other team, cleae the net l, and don't be a liability. I feel what we have seen from him shows he can do this. I am going to be watching Rafferry closely, as he *could* be the answer to boosting our attack. While he is still suspect defensively, if he can contribute on the scoreboad that would be his role. He and QH could be our go-to, easing the pressure on Edler to do more than he can at his age. We just don't have another shutdown guy. I see OJ as a possible option but he is likely not ready. At this point, I really don't see us being able to give Tanev up unless his ask is unreasonable. We need to find a way.
  12. True. But if I was to be dropped in an ocean inside of a shark cage which may or may not fail, I would sure rather the amount of sharks around to be as low as possible. I think between testing, rules, and security, the idea of a covid-free playoffs is possible. But I also find it unlikely. If you consider all the staffing required for a playoff competition (could they all be quarantined too?) I think the risk of an infection to players and coaches is relatively high. And if that happens, everything gets royally screwed. According to Bieksa, half the players he has talked to don't even want to risk it. Wonder how this will all affect morale - especially with no real home games and no fans.
  13. Absolutely true. When I said Ferland is a no-brainer, I should have said he is a no-brainer IF he plays to his ability. He didn't do a heck of a lot for us while he was healthy but you could still a glimmer of his old game here and there. Between rust and uncertainty of his limitations, he will be in tough to prove himself in camp. But IF he is the Ferland of old (or even anywhere close to it), he is the kind of player who can really make a difference in a playoff series.
  14. I agree. But IF Ferland is 100%, we can't afford NOT to have him in the lineup. Gaudette is too valuable to not put in the lineup as well, so I figure it is between Roussel and Motte. Roussel can be a very effective player when he is on, but if he looks in training camp like he did since he came back from injury, Motte is the clear choice.
  15. We really do have at least 1 extra NHL quality winger. 2 if you count LE. Miller Petersson Boeser Pearson Horvat Toffoli Virtanen Sutter Gaudette Roussel Beagle Ferland Motte, LE, BigMac as extras. I really would like to play Motte. He goes in if Roussel doesn't play like he can.
  16. It is what it is. While unusual, a competition is a competition and the winner will be the legit winner. I just hope nobody contracts the virus while the playoffs are going on or it's gonna cause some real disruption.
  17. Testing will help a lot. But with apparently most infected being asymptomatic that only helps so much. If nothing else, at least we are overall more prepared now than we initially were, and both the public and the authorities are more educated. Typically, such viruses ease off during the summer months so hopefully we see that and the spike isn't excessive. Closing again would be devastating - if even feasible at all. While I do expect an increase during the summer due to reopening, it's more this fall I am worried about. At the end of the day, it is imperative the public continues to be vigilant in protecting themselves until a cure is found. While most of us will be ok if we get it, we simply cannot expect our seniors to live with the virus running amok right outside their door or even being carried in by care workers.
  18. In even the best scenario, these are the people that end up getting screwed. In the worst scenario, they are treated as sacrificial to economic continuation. It is a hard time to be a senior right now - especially if you are in a home. Unless the virus somehow manages to fade off or we get a vaccine, reopening will inevitably lead to reinfection, and us getting close to where we were trying to avoid by closing up in the first place. Phase 1 sucked. Phase 2 might be worse.
  19. True on all accounts. Unless the virus somehow moves on, I feel significant infection is inevitable with reopening. I feel increased rates will be monitored (primarily as it pertains to ICU availability) and we open up as much as we can without overwhelming the system. Hopefully we get the balance right. I'm not sure if it is feasible to lock down so tightly again. Processes and controls are paramount for the sick an elderly. This really is an unfortunate (though debatably necessary) instance where we are picking the livelihood of one group at the expense of another. This continues until a vaccine is found or herd immunity is reached.
  20. Someone online was asking who could scan their vehicle as the check engine light was on and she was in a financial bind and didn't want to spend $100 or whatever to do it at a shop. Someone offered to do it for her for $20 (which is reasonable) but I told her just to drop by my house and did it for free. Also lent a stranger (who I found online) my computer keyboard as they were in a bind and needed to work from home for a few days. The keyboard was returned with 3 cans of booze and a bag of chips, all in a nice gift bag. I totally didn't expect that, but it brought a smile to my face. Both of these are small acts of kindness that barely put me out at all. I am no hero. But they made bigger differences in the lives of the people who I helped, and it does give you a bit of a warm fuzzy feeling to help out your community. And really, at a time like this, couldn't we all use a little more community?
  21. I like the use of chrome for the cage and highlights of the mask. I've generally always been drawn to the really blingy helmets with super reflective cages and designs. It is the one piece of equipment where a player is allowed to make a real statement. Might as well present yourself as the king of your crease.
  22. Yeah - I predict (as many do) it will ramp back up again once they open back up. Probably not as quickly as before initially but give it a few weeks to give them false hope and open more while people get good and infected and wave 2 will be well underway. If anything, for countries such as ours this will serve as a good test as to what we can (and probably shouldn't) do.
  23. They were an excellent team, and I maintain if the reffing had been even, we would have won the cup. But excuses are for losers, so I will instead say that we just couldn't match the heaviness of the Bruins. The team was great in every way, but when push came to shove (literally) we fell short.
  24. Holy crap I lol'd. That music tho...
  25. I am not sure how they would expect to keep the players locked down so tightly as to not expose them. There are plenty of staff in and around NHL teams. Once someone (player, coach, training staff) on a team gets it, or even an arena worker, announcer, support staff gets it, havoc ensues and could likely eliminate one if not both teams from contention. Even without fans, is this even feasible? Quick, complete and regular testing would be paramount.
