  1. Yo, tripping a guy is not a great defensive play. and Cassie: Puck contact first doesn’t matter anymore. where the hell does CBC get these people?
  2. I think there’ve been U12 players bigger than Petan out there. And he’a not even hyper fast or shifty to make up for it.
  3. Canucks pulled a usual and didn’t show up in the first. Then they just kinda kept that up. how embarrassing.
  4. Data is good. Pavelski is an odd machine... and he kinda plays the same type of game (and emotions) as Miller so that actually gives me hope that there could be longevity there.
  5. Some guys really, really hate losing. Miller really hates losing. But he's found another gear since Boudreau, I think that element of 'there's hope in winning' - Far from out of it now... that really helps Miller out too. Fire-y emotional guy. A team has to have a guy or two like that.
  6. Confidence. Unconfident goalies sit back which… predictably ends in getting scored on and lower confidence. on confidence: i’m pretty confident Halak is gonna get scored on again. might be his fault, might be the team. But the way this is going…
  7. Don’t want him to. Halak is in this mess. Team HAS to show some guts and try to dig out, and Halak has to fight through it. Demko gets a full night off. or he should.
  8. Nah. Let him let in 7 or 9. Demko get the game off. if we’re lucky Halak will patrick roy and ask for a trade.
  9. Indeed. Score if the D actually played simple and smart? Probably 1-0 NJ based on flow of play and ‘the game’. Canucks have made 5-6 bad mistakes in the D zone so far, NJ has made 1, maybe one and a half. We got scored on. They didn’t.
  10. I will highlight that my ‘tepid’ defense of Halak is based on two factors: 1) as a recent pickup of the goalie position in my adult age, goalie is ####ing hard. 2) when your defence is vacationing on a beach somewhere instead of playing D, it’s really, really ####ing hard to play goal. i’d argue Halak is ‘average’, but Demko is ‘hart worthy’. So the averageness shows when Demko isn’t in net… because the rest of the team is ‘somewhere else’ in the D zone half the time.
  11. Beer leaguers arent consistently stopping a placed shot short side from an NHL shooter with time on the PK. Defence left him to dry. first goal was whiffy ish, but the other two were 100% bad D coverage. Our PK is consistently awful regardless of the tendie.
  12. Halak gonna get pulled again and this time it’s not really his fault. that was some tire fire defense. our PK just sucks for some reason.
  13. Kariya- Lemieux- Yzerman Gagne- Sakic - Iginla Shanahan- Lindros- Fleury Smyth- Nieuwendyk- Nolan Pronger- Neidermayer Jovanovski MacInnis Blake - Foote Roy Brodeur Belfour Also, it's the 20 year anniversary of the best Canadian team ever assembled in an Olympic games. Give it a rewatch, it's a hell of a game. 2010 was a more emotional win, 2002 was a 'bigger' win. First gold in 50 years, overturn the disappointment of the Czech game (Hasek'd), and the US team was equally favoured to win AT HOME. Playing the spoiler is always great.
  14. The guys who need to play simple, play simple. What was the first thing he did in drills? Get guys putting the puck off the glass/boards and out. Simple plays. Other team can't realistically score from outside the blue line, so if you're hemmed in and getting thrashed, get the puck out on an easy play. Don't try to be a hero. What are our 'simple play' guys doing? Looking like rock stars because they're staying in their lane, doing exactly what they are good at. Example: Burroughs is good at being in the way and hitting people. So he's not trying to deke through 4 guys to score... he's short-passing to a puck 'mover' or just chipping it out if there's nobody open, and hitting guys himself. Simple plays to stop goals against. I think sometimes it gets lost that a great shift can be one that you 'just don't get scored on'. Tie up their top players for a minute or two, hit them, and get off the ice. They get worn down, and your scorers get their chance to shine too.
  15. I feel the same way, and also about 'everything'. Where the best person for the job gets the job, full stop. Male, female or white, black, orange, green, blue or purple... none of that makes any difference to an individual's abilities. If somebody is 'the best person for the job', they are 'the best person for the job'. The end. From what I hear and read, this is a good person for the job. So welcome aboard!
  16. It's a shame that Florida only had a practice against the Oilers last night rather than a game. It would be nice to capitalize on their back to back for a change.
