  1. 1 european forward in the starting 12, and his name is elias pettersson. that's noteworthy. edit: same deal for the starting d-men. the 20 man roster now has 3 europeans, all swedes, and 17 north americans.
  2. I'm guessing francesco is unwilling to pay eriksson's salary in utica and the team thought that virtanen was both better suited to the bottom 6 and more likely to be claimed on waivers at his price tag than baertschi at his.
  3. there's going to be an awful lot of shrieking about asset management when benning is true to his word (like always) and waives veterans (and not the ones you hope, but the ones who deserve it) in favour of keeping gaudette up.
  4. come on man, I know you watched bert play, and I know you know that's not true.
  5. turning all of the most expensive seats in the building into the cheapest seats in the building because there's a giant strip of foam completely blocking the sightlines is, unfortunately, a decidedly bad idea.
  6. for every concussion inflicted on an opponent during the preseason, the team will have to publicly execute one player of their choosing.
  7. let's imagine for a second that your employer was based out of nyc, but they have you stationed in good ol' vernon, bc. you're a pretty important guy, and in your role your employer needs to periodically recall you to home base (or other points on the map) on extremely short notice (hours, not days). unfortunately, that means you have to drive an hour from vernon to kamloops and hop on a regional flight from there to vancouver. at that point you can get on a connecting flight across the continent -- at least after you've gone through customs. utica -> syracuse -> buffalo -> vancouver/elsewhere that's what, for one thing.
  8. there's lots wrong with utica, though, even if they do have a charming fanbase.
  9. the cups between 2011 and 2019 were the ones in question.
  10. byfuglien and ladd weren't involved with those hawks teams.
  11. you're right, stawns is a contrarian. I'm the same way myself sometimes. I can't speak for his intentions or motivations, but I will certainly say that arguing from an unpopular standpoint serves a purpose: it forces people to defend their opinions, and what comes out in the wash more often than not is that those people don't possess the knowledge, intellectual capacity, or critical thinking ability to have an opinion that is informed and relevant.
  12. deliberate attempt to injure? give me a breeeeeeaaaaaaakkkk. my god, the persecution complex drama around here is insufferable.
  13. there were 7 stanley cups awarded between the two that you referenced, and I'm guessing you conveniently omitted those because 4 of them went to highly skilled chicago and pittsburgh teams.
  14. should the canucks pack up and move to albany or are we using real slippery logic?
  15. and, let me guess, you're perfectly content when things go the other way, too? oh wait, I forgot, every canuck player ever has been a perfect angel who has never hit a player on the numbers, even by accident.
  16. or you accept that it isn't 1987 anymore and the kids coming into the league now just aren't wired that way.
  17. you should check that math again. 7 of 31 (8 of 32 after seattle/palm springs joins) teams are no further east than colorado. the nhl has a whopping 9 out of 31/10 out of 32. not exactly a huge difference. in fact, if you move the comets to abbotsford ...
  18. palm springs will be the ahl home of seattle as well. if it makes sense for the 3 california teams, arizona, edmonton, calgary, winnipeg (not to mention all the teams in the central US), why doesn't it make sense for vancouver? if you scroll the list of nhl affiliations on the ahl website, the canucks are the outlier as far as proximity to their farm team.
  19. there was a trail of hotdog scraps leading to a locker room stall with absurdly tight skinny jeans in it jake was there
  20. markus granlund is 3 years older and had 19 goals in 69 games 3 years ago.
  21. the onus is on him to make that promise materialise before he gets squeezed off the roster, which is starting to look like an inevitability. any player that wasn't from BC and drafted 6th overall would have been given up on a long time ago. the progress from when he was drafted to now is minimal.
  22. my bet is that if the years of success we all foresee currently actually come to fruition, and the canucks end up with another season ticket waitlist, francesco will move the comets to abbotsford in a heartbeat. doing it earlier than that, before the demand for more canucks hockey warrants it, could be disastrous as a business move.
