[Speculation] Tanev possibly being shopped

I think maybe oldnews and provost should get together in a barn somewhere and settle their differences ... -

they aren't, though. -
[Report] Canucks restructuring scouting department

people get fired for lots of reasons. maybe they weren't on the same page as far as what traits they were prioritizing vs what traits management wanted them to be prioritizing maybe they were lazy, or just generally bad employees. this happens in every industry. maybe they were leaking canucks info to the press or sharing scouting notes with other teams. maybe they were involved in workplace sexual harrassment controversies. maybe they were communist sympathizers. who knows? it's not really our business. -

I'd argue the bolded players came exactly as advertised. -

the argument to be made, I guess, is what's more important: being clean or being effective? now, I'm not definitively saying kadri provides an effective deterrent against teams roughing up skill players, but in theory, it's logical to think that knowing the other team has a player that's willing to cross the line, even to his own detriment, in retaliation to clean hits is going to make you a little more hesitant to make those hits. -
for what it's worth, drew doughty is ranked 14 places higher on the agent leaderboard than ben hutton's agent ...
-
as a sidenote, I just discovered that website, and their 'agent leaderboard' is fascinating. pat brisson coming in at a hair under a BILLION dollars in ACTIVE player contracts. at a 5% cut (which, if memory serves, is closer to average in most situations than the assumed 10%), that $50 schmil for him. then you add in all the PAST contracts and all the FUTURE contracts ... excuse me while I go to law school.

ehhh ... https://puckpedia.com/agent/andrew-scott a less than stellar client list, but I assume he's relatively new based on those names and you have to start somewhere. that said, I agree with what you're saying, but there are obviously always exceptions. things are better now than they used to be, but look at how many former players end up falling on hard times later in life. it's why the nhl has their players emergency assistance fund. and where was jack johnson's sage advice when he so clearly needed it? but I digress.
-
he's also a young, fun-loving guy who doesn't seem like a particularly bright bulb, so maybe he hasn't been too wise with his money thus far and can't afford to take much of a pay cut without making significant lifestyle adjustments. granted, that's totally baseless, but he wouldn't be the first and certainly wouldn't be the last.

I like that the canucks have made an effort to get upstate new york guys for utica. it's good for the young players who don't know the region, potentially provides stability for the organization if the players are happy to stick around, and is good for the fans there and the environment in the building. -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on

hmm, interesting. learn something new every day. I guess loan him to somebody else's ahl team (texas stars? or is that being too generous with him?) and hope that riding the bus with a bunch of kids and never-weres is enough to make him crack. -

assign the guy to the echl. if he's going to be stuck in the organization, you can at least try to shame him into retiring early. -

shopping tanev makes a world of sense and if it isn't happening I'd be shocked. that said, it sure as hell isn't in the name of fitting ben hutton back in the lineup. -

curiously, the theme of the offseason continues for the canucks. news is breaking that they have an offer on the table for tyler seguin, and, according to rumours, the oilers are considering tyler benson as a sweetener in the in-progress lucic for eriksson trade. unfortunately, when benning approached steve yzerman on the draft floor about the possibility of acquiring tyler bertuzzi, he was quickly rebuffed. -
I'm hopeful that myers can work well in a pairing with edler now and with juolevi in the future. both are smooth, steady, 2-way guys that can help to be a calming presence (again, hopefully) for myers.

there was actually a guy in the thread about rfas that didn't receive a qualifying offer who said he'd be interested in bringing jordan subban back because he always liked his game ... I'm not one for emojis, but

why shave everyday when you can ... not ... shave everyday? -
gudbranson is younger and was drafter higher, therefore myers is even more useless for even more money.

welcome back to a tenacious and versatile role player. -
... exactly. it's the structure that provides incentive to the player to accept a contract that, on paper, is "less money" (ie. lower cap hit) than he'd likely otherwise be expecting to receive this summer, thus driving down the market for all the remaining high end rfas. I honestly don't know if you were agreeing or disagreeing with me.

part of me wonders if this offer sheet was league-wide collusion designed to reign in RFA salaries: offer aho a cool $20 mil to sell out his fellow rfa brethren by establishing a significantly lower than expected salary comparable for everyone else. if aho is only getting $8.5 mil, how can marner ask for 12? or tkachuk 9? boeser 8?
