  1. go through the other 30 teams' transaction histories and see how many "misses" they've had in the bottom third of their rosters over the last 5 years. there are always going to be tons of misses in the bottom third; that's why those players aren't procured for the top 2 thirds.
  2. I've been floating eriksson++ for jamie benn for months.
  3. thanks for breaking that down -- it shows that if hutton could play in the top 4, so can benn (if necessary). edler-myers hughes-tanev benn-stecher bottom two pairings would have fairly evenly distributed ice, with hughes having less even strength with lots of pp, and the other 3 having similar even strength and lots of pk. then tryamkin comes in late in the season and tanman gets flipped at the deadline after holding quinn's hand for the first bit to make sure he's steady.
  4. his agent would have been using the edler contract as a comparable. similar roles, ages, etc. edler likely worth a bit more, but factoring in the hometown discount it makes sense.
  5. newell brown can't be fired, only temporarily banished while he recharges his powers.
  6. only on the internet will huge nerds attempt to body shame a highly paid professional athlete.
  7. how many of those transactions have there been league-wide during benning's tenure? you understand that giving away assets for nothing in order to offload a problem is the absolute last resort for GM's, right?
  8. using loopholes to violate the spirit of a rule (salary cap) is the same as violating the rule itself. your bedtime reference isn't an accurate comparison. a more accurate one would be if your parents told you your bedtime was 10:00, so you proceed to stay up until 10:00 AM and when your parents give you a hard time about it, you say "well, you didn't say PM!"
  9. both dictionary.com and merriam-webster list the verb version ...
  10. yeah it's definitely a verb though. an adjective is a word that describes a noun, like beautiful, or terrible.
  11. panic is also a verb. like in the sentence, "don't panic!" for example.
  12. that's not what you said though. you said desperation was a noun and panic was a verb. the first listed definition of panic is a noun.
  13. congratulations on a remarkable career. the guy is easily a top 5 canuck all time.
  14. if the canucks have another palatable way to offload him without taking money back, my preference would be to still bring in lucic, but with sutter going the other way. the canucks should be able to pry something decent out of them in that trade. tyler benson+?
  15. how about the extra 256 hits and the imminent threat of face punching if anyone deigns to so much as look at pettersson or hughes the wrong way?
  16. people should remember this list of names the next time they want to bleet about jim benning's "asset management."
  17. it's easy to blather on about "asset management" endlessly when the closest you've ever come to having to actually think about it is a videogame. these are human beings, not "assets," and moving them isn't as simple a consideration as trading pokemon cards.
  18. his 259 hits last year were tied for his career high and good enough for 7th in the league.
  19. putting ANY eggs, let alone that many, in the pearson basket would be a huge mistake for a gm that needs to make the playoffs in order to keep his job.
