as I've mentioned previously:
1. if you let teams know you're willing to take the best available offer and not walk away from the table if you don't get your price, you're never going to get their best offer ever again.
2. to send the message to the players in the room that you value them and their contributions, not like they're disposable.
3. to not subtract a popular guy from the room for so little gain. yes, he'll be gone in a few months anyway almost certainly, but the optics are different for the remaining players.
