  1. sure, but the guys the team wants to acquire aren't #7-10 guys and the guys currently in the lineup aren't #7-10 guys either, so something has to give.
  2. fun fact: kucherov has never had a 3 point game against vancouver,
  3. where on the team are the desired right d men going to play if you don't move some of those guys?
  4. about 2/3 of first round picks make it to at least 200 games. schroeder is in the third that didn't get there, and he wasn't really all that close (expressed as a percentage) either.
  5. the canucks aren't trying to move miller, though.
  6. I have no real issue with the non-call on the high stick, but it certainly doesn't seem like the right call according to the rule book. "Rule 60 – High-sticking 60.1 High-sticking – For “high-sticking the puck”, refer to Rule 80. A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. Players must be in control and responsible for their stick. However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion, or accidental contact on the opposing center who is bent over during the course of a face-off. A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly." There is no listed caveat for cases where the stick is propelled by the player who ends up being high sticked.
  7. horvat, too. at the time, fans and media were obsessed with the concept that they needed to rebuild the defense, and I guess benning got oel tunnel vision.
  8. he spent 2014-2020 with a focus on building a culture, and then the offseason after the bubble he flushed that culture down the toilet.
  9. nobody important. finding an extra $3-4 mil isn't that challenging. the other thing people are failing to recognize is that the cap is going to shoot up way faster than people are expecting. yes, it's locked in for another couple years, but revenues are going to return to normal in a damn hurry, and with the ridiculous state of the global economy and rapid inflation causing ticket prices, merch prices, concession prices, etc. to go up substantially, the revenue number will be that much higher, which means the cap will be that much higher. the actual dollars the players are being paid won't be worth as much, but that's their problem.
  10. congrats, you've just created a rudderless ship like all of the other failed rebuilds of recent past from around the league in places like edmonton, buffalo, etc.
  11. that's not what gatekeeping is. I also only mentioned it because he was whining about censorship.
  12. it should be moved to the proposals forum since there aren't any actual rumours and it seems pretty clear he won't be moving any time soon.
  13. he's not a declining asset by any stretch of the imagination. he's actually a rising asset, each year better than the previous (for the most part). just because you assume he's going to decline in a few years doesn't mean he will and certainly doesn mean he's declining currently. not to mention that canucks management doesn't share your view of the timeline for success.
  14. I wouldn't be able to catch enough breath through gales of laughter to say no, but I think sakic would catch my drift.
  15. seriously? jeeeesus. are people in montreal actually tuning in for an 11 pm start? I'm only in alberta and I'm not going to make it through the first period.
  16. sure, in theory, more options can be better. in reality, choosing a solid plan for moving forward is best. if they've decided that miller is someone they want to commit to, and they're comfortable they can get something done, then making a guarantee is fine. there's no need for public announcement one way or the other. that said, I doubt miller has been given any guarantees, but it's not like management would keep things secret from him and his agent if there were irons in the fire. if he doesn't get the impression that it's likely he'll be traded, I trust his judgement.
  17. ... you realize that it is entirely in management's control, right? if they made a guarantee (I'm not saying they have), then it remains a guarantee regardless of what's being offered. they wouldn't make a guarantee unless they've decided that miller is part of the core going forward.
  18. how can you not love this guy? he wants to be here, and his singular focus is winning. the team's culture simply cannot afford to lose him.
  19. maybe you should have become the pro hockey player instead so you could show him how it's done.
