I was thinking of a base like this, but not sure what Florida should add. A 1st is not enough but don't think Florida would cough up Lundell either. We would add about 800k in salary, but hornqvist is done after this season. Miller+Poolman vs Weegar+Hornqvist

I wonder what the over/under odds are for that one? -

Because every other previous he never produce that much. This was most likely an anomaly and is in line for a regression. not saying he will revert back to 50 pts but something in the 75-85 is probably most likely. -

Not impossible but improbable. -

My guess would be 5 years absolute tops. If he turns this franchise around I think he can say mission accomplished, I've implemented a strong management culture/structure and leave with that legacy. If it's a failure or meh, I think ownership will probably just move on and look for another direction (maybe the sedins then, à la Linden) ? -

Great then, that means our team is progressing, will give some valuable playoff experience to Bo (already has some), EP, Podz, Hughes, etc. Yes, we might lose Miller for nothing (tangible) but the intangibles that he will have brought this team, instead of selling out for a couple of late 1st or 2nd and an unknown prospect. No contender will give out a young, cheap NHL ready player as the major piece for Miller, because that guy is probably already an integral part of that contending team. In todays NHL cap space is a major asset, therefore non-committing to Miller on a contract that will probably not age well is a good asset for the Canucks. And if indeed we end up in the playoff and making stride, that loss of Miller will be able to be filled out by either signing another UFA a la Pietrangelo or Gaudreau. We will be attractive if your scenario happens. Don't forget that Tkatchuk, Laine and Dubois are most likely to come up as UFAs in the upcoming years. If not UFA, that cap space could help us acquire a Pacioretty type of guy for free also. Yes we might lose Millet for nothing (tangible) but I honestly believe his presence will bring us a lot of intangible too (think Sundin) -

Agree, if that tone was coming from a rookie GMs, you could argue that would mean some sort of panic on his part. But I believe JR when he says there is no rush. Otherwise he would be smart enough to have moved on for the best deal available already. The fact he didn't tells me he's in control of the situation. JR won't be here 5-10 years, so he can't start his tenure by screwing up this situation. The best/right offer either hasn't come up yet, or the offers were ridiculously low/insulting and not worth it. -
[Proposal] Canucks and Avalanche

But worst one on the Colorado board -
Media didn’t ask any questions about defense.

When you have 2 generational players upfront and a generational goalie as a backup, you can get away with a bargain bin defense. Not a recipe you really want to follow. -
[Signing] Blue Jackets sign Johnny Gaudreau

I think insiders will get their salary downgraded after that one… After losing all of their impending UFA Columbus lands the biggest fish of the year, that’s weird lol. -

8.5M$ for a 30 pts defenseman. Always thought he was overrated playing with a good team. -

Nice additions, not sure about the terms yet. Seems steep, but if he repeats his 20+goal season, I think it'll be ok i guess. -

Totally different situation. For one, Huberdeau was born and raised by the Panthers. But he's also been a consistent top line players that has a track record to substantiate a heavy, long-term deal. JT Miller was a middle six players that emerged as a top 6 with the Canucks who had one monster year last year. Much more risk and unpredictability in his future production than Huberdeau. -
Podz? While not young per say, they don’t have a Bo nor a Miller. If you count Debrincat that was traded for their 7th overall, I think you need to count Lekkerimaki in that list too. Branstron has lost a little of luster since his draft year, I think you could put Rathbone as a counter on that list. Not arguing one way or the other, just saying your Canucks list is missing a few.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Miller also has to be careful here. He might’ve had his career year one year too soon. If his requests are too exaggerated, he’s going to need to stay healthy and produce had the same pace to back those claims in free agency next year, otherwise his leverage could take a tumble. Also if he re-signs in Vancouver or gets traded he can get an 8th year right now, which won’t be available via free agency. So if he plays hardball here and bets on himself to repeat, it can be a huge payday or big fail. If I’m his agent, I’m encouraging him to sign a more reasonable or fair deal right now, whether it’s with Vancouver or somewhere else through a facilitates sign-and-trade where Canucks allows Miller to speak with team he’s traded to. -

True, but I'm sure he'll have similar money elsewhere too.

https://www.rds.ca/hockey/lnh/rumeurs-lnh-des-nouvelles-de-claude-giroux-jack-campbell-darcy-kuemper-etc-1.15953140 RDS is citing Dreger saying Giroux has a good chance of signing in Ottawa, they have 24M$ cap space, but still need to sign Norris, Joseph and Formenton. Good addition for Ottawa, local boy, but I wonder why would Giroux do it. I understand the coming home part, but certainly not going to win a cup in Ottawa imo.
