I know it was a previous regime for both teams but....basically we trade a forward we chose to keep, over a forward we chose to let walk to UFA and a defenseman we chose to sign in UFA against a UFA defenseman the Habs chose to sign that same summer.

Well, what's the relevance of your shop story if not to diminish the impact of Vax vs non-vax. Millions and millions of people got covid with no or very mild symptoms. Doesn't mean it's still not a threat. Speaking of conversation, the brightest scientist on the planet say one thing and people contradict them because they hear otherwise on facebook
-
So your isolated cases at your shop trumps the worldwide data that has been collected over and over again?

That's a misrepresentation of the facts. 29M or 76% of the population in Canada is fully vaccinated, while only 9M or 24% are not. That's 3 time more people that are vaccinated, of course there are going to be more cases by vaccinated people. That's just simple math. Yet, while they are 3 time more vaccinated, there are only 2 times more vaccinated testing positive. If the vaccine had no effect, the numbers would be the same. In Quebec the data shows that there is twice as much hospitalization for 1M unvaccinated people than 1M of vaccinated people. Another telling statistics. No vaccine is perfect, proof is they are considered effective /approved at 60+ %. We were lucky that these one were effective at 90%, against previous variant. Obviously the Omicron variant changed the game and vaccine will adjust as well in time.

You claim we don’t know what happened, hence we cannot judge him, but you defend him like he’s a Saint, yet you don’t know either what he did or didn’t do? How is that better? nobody knew exactly what Weinstein did before he was tried 5 years later, yet we all knew what he did. Bill Peters, Joël Quenneville, Jim Montgomery and Bob Murray all lost their jobs or were forced to quit yet never stood trial. The MLB and The NFL are suspending players for allegation of abuse , yet barely any of these cases see a court room, let alone actual accusations. So your argument of proof and law and courtroom is pure non sense.

Pretty sure the Sharks have consulted very expansive lawyers before doing this decision and probably the NHL and/or Bettman. Bettman does not want one of his teams to loom foolish by doing a move like this. im going to go on a limb here and say that the Sharks did their due diligence before going through with this. the player and nhlpa have rights to appeal but I’m guessing they don’t have a solid case imo

To me there is absolutely no reason at all to take a risk on Kane. 1st of all, the Sharks can only retain 50%, therefore his cap hit would be 3.5M for multiple years still. The risk (documented off-ice issues) vs reward (ceiling of 0.66 to 0.75 PPG) is just not worth it at that price/term. Also, at that price tag, there are probably a half-dozen other options that doesn't carry the risk that Kane does. Finally, despite decent statistic 0.66PPG over his career, he has never help his teams win. He's like a poor man Taylor Hall, gets good number everywhere he plays, but he's not pulling his teams or making his teammates better. He just get his share of points and that's it. The only way I could see a deal for Kane, would be the Sharks buying him out and the Canucks signing him for league minimum and if it doesn't work out he's buried in the minor or mutually terminated.

I think 16 teams like the world championships is fine. While France and Great Britain are not contenders they can still hold their own against top teams without being a complete embarrassment. Otherwise if you have 32 teams, they should be divided into a Top group and lower group. They won't get to play the top teams but will still be part of the competition and get some visibility and experience.

Paul Maurice resigns as Jets head coach
timberz21 replied to aGENT's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Good for him having the integrity to do so. Honestly, not a bad coach at all, but was surprised when Winnipeg re-signed him. I thought he had brought that team as far as they could go. They have plateaued under him and clearly they weren't going to take the next step. -
[Rumour] Coyotes gauging market on Jakob Chychrun
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Massive is a subjective term. I mean they can't ask more than Eichel or even close. Chychrun is a good asset but he's not cornerstone player like Eichel, despite the uncertainty surrounding his health at the time of the trade. -
[Report] Canucks recall Phillip Di Giuseppe
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
We played Carolina Sunday and they were tested Sunday with the results coming Monday. They didn't get it from Carolina. The optimal time to test is 7 days after exposure, this was most likely last week they contracted it. If we were exposed by Carolina, the results will be coming in next weekend probably. -
Only issue with Staal is, Rutherford said the team needs to get faster. One of the main complaint from Montreal about Staal last year was how slow he was. Same was said about Perry. However, these two were a big part of the Habs success in the playoffs, despite being underwhelming in the regular season. I'm not against bringing in Staal, but it definitely won't improve our team speed.

I can see Benning getting a scouting/advisor job or AGM role eventually.

[Discussion] Salary Cap confirmed to 82.5 for 2022/23

Overpay a 4th liner...oh wait Benning is gone. -
To save money since their still getting paid, FA will probably re-assign Benning into the Fin costume, while Green, obviously, will be the new 3rd member of the Green Men.

[Report] Canucks fire Jim Benning, name Stan Smyl as interim GM
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun Just quickly chatted with Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini, as he ran into the BOG meeting. He confirmed @DarrenDreger ‘s report that Jim Rutherford has been hired as president and interim GM. He gave it a big thumbs up. @TSNHockey @TheAthletic -
[Report] Canucks fire Jim Benning, name Stan Smyl as interim GM
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Completely different team dynamics if you compare Pittsburgh and Vancouver. If Jim tries to do what he did with Pittsburgh with this team, that will be a total flop. I'm assuming a guy with this pedigree will navigate this scenario differently. Still hoping he's POHO and not GM though. -

Can't really win 2 cups without sacrificing at least some part of your future.
