[Proposal] Myers to Montreal for Toffoli
timberz21 replied to WEVEGOTMOTTE's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Move on man! We had him, we chose not to re-sign him (right or wrong) and Toffoli signed elsewhere. Even if Benning is gone, I doubt Toffoli would welcome a trade back here after passing on him. Anyways, it's not what we need. We need more depth and stability on our backend and removing Myers doesn't help with that one bit. Is Myers overpaid yes, but with QH and EP signed mid/long term, and Luongo coming off the books and a potential for the cap to boom once the economy restart, not sure that saving cap space is a priority right now. -
Honestly, PK shouldn't be a 4 forward jobs. Everyone should be able to chip in regularly. You can have your 4 main players that get regular shift, or key situation, but I'm ok with everyone chipping in regularly too. You keep your top PK guys fresh, reduce the risk of injuries for them and gets everyone involved in that aspect of the game. Comes in handy is your PK guys are injured or in the box, while you get that occasional SH goal from your skilled players.

If Not For 1 Fatal Mistake Jim Benning May Still Be Our GM

It was Juolevi, just saying nobody is perfect. Might have Tkachuk right but EP or QH wrong. -
If Not For 1 Fatal Mistake Jim Benning May Still Be Our GM

Agree that one hurts, but at the same time nobody bats 1,000 either. would we be ahead or behind, if we had Tkatchuk instead of EP or QH? -
If Not For 1 Fatal Mistake Jim Benning May Still Be Our GM
timberz21 replied to Gator's topic in Canucks Talk
Always like what Benning has done overall, but always said that he wouldn’t be the GMs once this team was ready to contend. He could’ve save himself a little time if he would’ve changed coach this summer, but ultimately I’m glad there will be a new voice in management. I think he took this team as far as he could and I still think we have a good foundation. The next two draft will be crucial if this team can turn it around and contend and be able to sustain it. -
[Report] Canucks fire Jim Benning, name Stan Smyl as interim GM
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Come on you can’t even compared Gillis and Bennings team Aging Sedins, Kessler, Luongos contract vs EP, Hughes Horvat in pretty décents deal, up and coMing Demko. I agree With the Bennings firing, but I can objectively give him credit where credit is due. Obviously made a lot of mistake too, but this team has a lot more upside than the 2014 team. -
Barry Trotz had the same if not worst playoffs record before he finally won it. This team has 2 playoffs appearances on the past +/- 8 years. At least when you make it in, anything can happen. Right now, we can even dream of the ultimate goal since we’re not even in the game. Boudreau is 66 years old, he’s not going to be our coach for the next 10 years. If he can make this team a regular playoffs team in 3/4 years then maybe we could look for some else to take us all the way

My only worry with Mellanby is that the Habs also had poor player development and poor AHL teams. considering that was a big part of Mellanbys job in MTL it seems, he will likely bring a similar background to the Canucks, which are two areas we also need to improve. So I’m kind of hesitant on that one.

Why is he on waivers though? He was re-assigned early this year with going through waivers? Weird.

So they can have an excuse to keep Green longer? No thanks! -

Travis Green meeting with PR dept. At the moment. Need to remove the dust from the winning speech and rehearse it. -
Is Elvis really dead?

Hence, why I said resuscitate. Wanted to highlight just how absurb your proposal was. Can't believe I have to explain it but whatever...
-
Why don't we resuscitate Pat Quinn and Roger Nielson while were at it to replace Benning and Green.

Fenway Sports Group reaches deal to buy Penguins
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Big price to pay for a franchise that will rot at the bottom as soon as Crosby retires in +/- 5 years. Smart thinking for the owners to sell now. -
Lol Bergevin was the laughing stock on these boards for years. Honestly, never thought he was that bad, but not sure he's what we need either. His draft record (even though it was his blind faith in Trevor Timmins) is really bad. He really never had a plan as well. even though in retrospect he did some good trades, he was all over the place. He traded Subban for Weber, which IMO was a short-term win but would be a long-term loss (turned out it was a win-win) but still when you do that move, then you got to put your chips all in. He signed Radulov to a show-me what you got contract, and after Radulov delivered refused to follow through and sign him long-term for a few 100k difference. Signed Subban long-term then traded him not long after. Traded Pacioretty for Suzuki, which turned out good, but IMO was contrary to what he did with the Weber trade. He raises his chips early then folds without going all-in then plays safe for the next few hands, he's all over the place. For these reasons, I would pass.

Don't Expect Big Changes Anytime Soon ( Article).
timberz21 replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
Not like there isn’t 20 others candidates out there. There’s plenty of solid AGM just waiting for a call. in fact teams might be more incline to let them go now rather than in February or May/April before the deadline/draft. -
Since when does CDC and HF have any weights on the quality of hockeys coaches and gms in 2014 everyone thought Babcock was a God, how the mighty have fallen.
-
Must have coughed one too many time in the locker room, Blackhawks not taking any chances.
-
That's a contradictory comment since, in your own article you argue that the Pens replace the smart Shero for Dumb-dumb Rutherford. Yet in 10 years with Malkin and Crosby Shero only produced 1 cup while Rutherford produce 2 rings in 3/4 years. So that's an overly exaggerated comment that anyone could win with Malkin and Crosby.
-
While I agree that Rutherford is not a good candidate for the Canucks or any rebuilding team, I think you are underestimating his impact on the Penguins' back to back cup. "Anyone can win a cup with Crosby and Malkin"....then why did the Penguins only won 1 cup in the previous 10 years, they had Malkin and Crosby all those years. He traded Kapanen for Kessel who had a really big impact in these 2 cups. He also later traded back for Kapanen who is now a core part of this team. He also traded for like guys like Oleksiak, Hainsey and Schultz for bread crumb and ended up being key acquisitions down the stretch. Not to mention he fired Johnston and gave Sullivan the commands. Rutherford might have been a good option for the Canucks post 2011. However, I agree that right now he's not the guy we need, but that doesn't diminish what he did for Pittsburgh.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

and hoping we don't replace him with one of those 3 -
Ownership change, FYI I'm buying the Canucks. I think GM and coach will both go at the same time IMO.

If we are going to re-hire Gillis, I hope it’s in a President role. Gillis build a strong management team with expert in all kind of area, salary cap, legal, sleep & travel optimisation, etc. in that regard i think he was the one of the best GMs we ever had. He also made some good trades to complement a solid core. However his drafting was deficient and when it was time to rebuild or re-tool didn’t really know what to do. so I would t be opposed to him in a president role but with a young up and coming GM under him. I think that would be the ideal scenario. i think Gillis could also optimize the Sedin in a development or PR role as well. Not sure they are ready for a Hockey-ops role yet.
