  1. Not saying no New Yorker will ever sign with us. But context is key. Higgins was a middle six two way guy and was traded to us at the trade deadline iirc. And like you said we were contenders. Pesce is one year away from UFA and most likely sign 7/8 year deal that will be the last of his career. He will be sought after in a grim defenseman market.
  2. With everyone deserting Canadian teams, I doubt a New Yorker would want to settle in Western Canada. My guess is even if Canucks offer is competitive, might not be interested in signing long term.
  3. Dumped by the lightning and Nashville and now suddenly he’s a top pair in Vancouver? i mean, I’d like him but that’s a little bit too much optimistic. While it may seem like an obvious connection with his father, could also lead to an ackward situation if his father cannot get him back on track and he doesn’t pan out.
  4. 1. No because you pay Hronek and Willander. In your scenario, you want to pay the UFA, Willander and Sandin Pellika 2. There is no bidding war to sign Hronek, we own his rights and can give him an 8th year, so yes AAV will be cheaper, to quote yourself, how is that not computing. Plus we sign him early, therefore contract end early, so I theory we get him during his better years than an 28-29-30 years old UFA. 3. what do you mean Hronek is not a slam dunk, he proved he was a top 4, it is literally a fact. Can that change of course, but he is a top 4 as we speaks. 4. Im sorry to tell you, but a 17th overall pick doesn’t save this franchise. Now if we start trading our own every year, that’s another story. Yes our prospect pool is bare, but so is our core around EP, Hughes and Demko. This isn’t a move like Chicago bringing old guys like Hall and Foligno to surround Bedard. This is a move to help and grow with our core.
  5. Hronek is a top 4 now. The two players your talking about are most likely 2 years away from being NhLers and 3+ years of being legit top 4, if they make it. if you spend your cap in a UFA now, that contract will hamper re-signing those guys after their ELC. As a 25 years old, Hronek will most likely cost less than a 28 years old UFA and should normally have more « prime » years than a 28 years old. you’re talking like these two prospects are slam dunks, need i remind you of someone named Juolevi. Still Lots of uncertainty with mid level 1 rounder.
  6. Been saying it a while. If anyone was interested for free or cheap, he would’ve left at trade deadline. if there were any discussions there was either a Canucks draft pick attached to the trade or retention. Decent $ value but I think it’s the term scaring other team. They would probably like a rental Garland more
  7. Rather have a Chuck in between here’s you tongue twister for the play by play guy
  8. I don't think they trade that 5th overall before their selection is up though. I'm guessing they want Carlsson, Smith or Fantili and don't want to take the chance on Michkov. So they'd pull the trigger on a trade unless someone in the top 4 takes Michkov
  9. They traded #13 and 66 for Kirby Dach with similar stats and turned out ok for them. What's the problem? Also, it's more like 2 second rounder with the 31st overall. MTL has a ton of picks and had a lot the last few years, eventually they won't be able to signs all these players.
  10. Surprise the return for Chicago wasn't more, but I guess if Hall can inflate his stats with Bedard, the Hawks can always flip him with retention in either of the next two TDL and get other assets back.
  11. Boston need cap space and Chicago needs to reach the floor, why is this so hard to believe? What surprise me is that Chicago didn't leverage more out of Boston for bailing them out of their cap problem.
  12. JR approved the Boudreau hiring before actually taking the job. In 2009, Bob Gainey said that the hiring of Guy Carbonneau as head coach was one of the best decision of his career, only to fire him less than 2 months later. things change.
  13. Actually, he’s a genius, he’s gutting the team and Torts will lose his shit will all those rookies and fill in players. Briere is clearly tanking, so Torts will either have a stroke or beg Philly to let him out of his contract. Therefore, won’t have to fire him and pay 2 coaches.
  14. They knew that hiring him , if they didn’t want to buy him out, I don’t think Tocchet forced him. had nothing to do with Tocchet imo. not saying it was a good decision or not. Their just pushing cap space issue forward. Just saying it was inevitable and Benning might not have pulled the trigger, but left them no choice Indont think OEL played « very well » his first year, I think he was OK, but you can’t tell me you were expecting him to play this way for 6 years, hence why the buyout was inevitable, just came earlier. Anyways it’s done now
  15. I wouldn’t say nothing, he brought him in and everyone knew this was going to end bad and in a buyout eventually. just came sooner than most thought I think.
  16. Is this better or worst than trading Dylan Gunther for OEL and buying him out later? Benning and Fletcher must be golf buddies right now!
  17. If I’m the Blues/Philly right now, I’d call-in a trade with two carreer AHLs swaps and announce it tonight and call in the official trade in a couple of days teach those insiders a lesson lol
  18. Think they were moving on already, so that’s just makes it official imo
  19. Don’t you worry, CDC will come up with a billion reasons why he would waive his NTC/NMC… - He’s a Pittsburgh boy - Who wouldn’t want to play in LA - Would make more money playing in tax-friendly state of Florida - His wife’s great great half-step-uncle from a third marriage is from Nashville, therefore… - bla bla bla
  20. Are you willing to bet a 1st rounder on him figuring it out? Every one drools at 6.05'+ players because they think they'll turn into the next Chara. Most of them end up as 3rd pairing players, if they aren't AHL/NHL tweener.
