  1. Thanks, that changes things then. But I'm not sure why the Jets would trade him then. With Hayes gone and possibly Tanev walking away...he's bound for a bigger role.
  2. I don't agree with this. He's 22 and RFA without arbitration. Jets have no rush to trade him, I don't think his value is affected. If Canucks are jumping on this....so are the 29 other teams. If there is multiple teams interested, Jets will have plenty of good offers. But like I said in the report thread, 1st full NHL year and he's complaining about ice-time. What does that say about him....#entitledcrybaby IMO.
  3. Can't argue against that...but I just think if they were to trade Nylander, it would be a Johansen/Jones type of deal for a defenseman to replace Gardiner without having to go on the UFA market to replace him. They can afford to lose Nylander up front without hurting them. I just don't think they will trade him for spare parts like suggested. I know the 10th overall has a lot of value, but teams rarely trade top 10 first rounder immediately. So they would have to trade Nylander and turn around and trade the 10th right away before the draft. Just too complicated IMO.
  4. Madden and Rathbone are late round draft pick and don't really have value IMO. I know they have progressed much better than their draft position dictates, but every team have players like this. As for Dipietro, I don't think goalie prospect have good value, unless your a slam dunk like Luongo, Price and Fleury were. I mean they could always be throw-ins, but I don't think teams will sees them as an important piece to the deal.
  5. How does this help Toronto? Their window is now....10th overall is not what they need. Neither is two injury-prone players when they are most likely bound to butt head with the Bruins in the playoffs again. They can do much better if they want to trade Nylander. I know it's a favorite pass time on CDC to bash on the Leafs, but I fully expect Nylander to be better next year. This was an down year for a guy that held out and started his season when NHL teams were hitting their stride. I fully expect him to be another 60+ pts player next year again
  6. Seriously, Benning might not have gotten max value in his previous trade, but he has never traded the farm or a significant piece that went on and bite us in the a$$ either. I know it was his first impression with the Kesler deal, but all thing considered, he did pretty decent for a guy that was handcuffed. Seems like that reputation stuck since. He acquired guys like Grandlund, Baerstchi, Goldobin and Pearson for fairly cheap and are still with the team. The most significant parts he traded away beside Kesler is Bonino, McCann and 2nd rounders
  7. Don't know much about the player, but based on this... hard pass. That was his first full year in the NHL and he's complaining about ice-time? Jets are a team on an upswing, has a chance to move up the ladder and eventually play with Scheifelle or Laine. Hayes is gone, Tanev if UFA...he has a chance to take a bigger role next year. Entitled baby, if report is true...no thanks.
  8. Unfortunately, Eriksson is not stupid...he just sucks.
  9. I hear Pittsburgh is in cap trouble....maybe they'll trade us Crosby and Malkin for Goldobin and Grandlund. Might throw in one of our extra 6th rounder if they play hardball.
  10. Not sure why LA would do this. Right now he has the 5.25 for two more years. If they buy him out, according to capfriendly, cap hit would be: 2019-20 : 2.916M$ (LA share is only 75%, so 2.18M$) 2020-21 : 5.42M$ (LA share is only 75%, so 4.07M$) 2021-22 : 1.42M$ (LA share is only 75%, so 1.07M$) 2022-23 : 1.42M$ (LA share is only 75%, so 1.07M$) I mean they get a little saving this year, not so much next year and then gotta carry a 1M$ cap hit for two more years. It's a 8M cap hit over 4 years instead of 10M$ over 2 years. Considering buyout rate is suppose to be 67%(2/3), saving only 20% in cap space doesn't really make sense....especially for a rebuilding franchise. Unless they really don't want him around anymore. Could just bury him in the minors instead or hope he gets injured.
  11. Cole Caufield: Listed 5-feet-7, 163 pounds. Actual 5-feet-7.25, 163 pounds. Judd Caulfield: Listed 6-feet-3, 207 pounds. Actual 6-feet-3.5, 205 pounds. I'm guessing their not related lol. EDIT: Nvm just realized not exactly spelled the same, but the difference it pretty subtle lol.
  12. Think about what you are saying....You want to trade the 10th overall to upgrade our 3rd line center when we could keep our pick and upgrade our top 6 or top 4 D with it instead. The lower 1st rounder you will get in return, will most likely be a depth, 3rd liner guy. Benning can't draft a Boeser every year with a lower 1st rounder. Top 3rd line center don't stay in that chair very long, either want a raise or play in the top 6. Since we are so early in our learning curve, we don't need a top notch 3rd liner right now, we'll need him in 2-3 years when we are competitive. Chances are we will develop our own 3rd liner center, whether it's Gaudette or someone else, so I don't see the need to trade our 10th overall to acquire one. Also like many said, we already have Gaudette. I understand you want to put him on the 2nd line, but why jump the gun and put him in another position? We won't win the Stanley Cup next year...this is the perfect time for Gaudette to be learning the position at the NHL level. That's why I had suggested in the past...keep Sutter on Gaudette's RW to be his mentors. Also playing wing for Sutter might help to stay more healthy too and would provide depth at C too in case of injuries.
  13. That's how bargain deal are made. Right now he's not worth that...but people are going to bet on him reaching his potential and being a bargain for 3-4-5 years. If you wait 1 more year and Kapanen breaks out with a 60+ pts season...he's going to cost you 6M+ plus....that how it's works. It is a risk....of course it is, but i'm pretty sure it's a pretty well calculated risk when you see his progression. Heck, Boeser only had 2 good season (where he was both injured)...and we will need to throw at the very least 7M$....I don't see Why it's a problem to give 4M to Kapanen.
  14. Who the hell is this guy? Anyways, every negotiation players and teams are far apart until their not. I would assume also that they would be further apart in term rather than $. Anyways, as for your proposal, I think both sides declines. From a Canucks stand point, no guarantee that Kakko will be better than Boeser and with Benning track record, i'd rather keep Boeser and the 10th. From the Rangers side, they say no, because they wouldn't want to be the team that traded Kakko if he becomes a superstar. That's why top 3 picks are basically never traded IMO.
  15. Weren't the Warriors a mess to start the season when he played? Might be good news for the Raps.
  16. Again, who cares. He's not the first one. If he ever wants to be a #1 goalie in this league, I hope he wasn't rattle by that. Plus, this had nothing to do with the Nilsson trade. Benning wanted to call up Demko. Whether he kept Nilsson and put him through waiver or trade him for McKenna, the result would have been the same, we would have been down a goalie anyways, except now we have an extra 6th pick. Anyways, I don't know why I bother, clearly you prefer stating irrelevant facts to defend your point rather than actually bringing some arguments...
  17. Mike McKenna (Ottawa) 10 454 30 3.96 1 4 1 262 0.897 0 0 Thatcher Demko (Vancouver) 9 534 25 2.81 4 3 1 263 0.913 0 0 Anders Nilsson (Vancouver) 12 718 37 3.09 3 8 1 316 0.895 0 You tell me who's the more qualified. Nillsson was a dump to make room for Demko. Benning thought McKenna would clear easier than Nillson when bringing up Demko. In hindsight, Nillsson wouldn't have cleared either but at least he got a 6th instead of nothing. Seriously, who cares if Utica had to dress a trainer to be back up goalie. 99.9999999% of the time McKenna would have cleared waiver, clearly someone pissed in the Flyers Cheerios that day and they decided to take it out on Benning by claiming McKenna. Can't blame that on Benning.
  18. Kind of contradicting yourself there....on one hand, you say he gave him away...but on the other your saying we wouldn't have signed him anyways. I know a 6th rounder is not much, but it's still better than nothing at all. Were you expecting a bigger haul for a 3.09GAA and 0.895 backup goalie? Seriously? I think that 2.6M$ is overpaid for a shaky, inconsistent backup goalie with career high of 27 games played in one season, especially for a cheap a$$ team like Ottawa. Boston signed Halak for 2.75M$. What bad contract? Tom Pyatt? He's gone, UFA, it had 0 effect on our cap space, how is this a bad contract? All it did was to make Aqualini 0.000000001% less rich. Benning wasn't jammed because of injuries, he got jammed because he wanted to bring up Demko. Whether it was Mckenna or Nilsson being on waivers (assuming Nilsson would have been picked up by the Flyers also), he would have been jammed regardless. I think the development plan for Demko trumps whatever happens to our backup goalie. Like you said, minor trade, but I can't see how this goes in the minus column for Benning. At worst, this trade goes the in the "Meh, whatever" column.
  19. I understand there is a lot of question marks surrounding this year's crop of defense....however, this is one of the best crop available in recent years. Might take another 5 years before this much talent becomes available. It's also not a guarantee that we will be able to build it through the draft. Hughes will be good, we just don't know yet if he's a 2/3 type of guy or a bonafide #1. With that said, I don't want us to spend blindly either. I think Benning has to do his due diligence on these guys and draw a line, but I think we need consider it at least. If it's too much that's fine, we'll pass.
  20. When you put it like that it might sound silly...but someone else could see it from another angle A top 10 scorer in the NHL? Did he ever scored 30 goals? An aging strong 3rd line centre who has played 1 full season in the past 4 years and was double digit minus 2 of those years. Prospect who is 2 years away from NHL Prospect who is 2 years away from NHL unproven, potential #1 goalie 21 years old, former 5th overall, who hasn't played a game in the NHL yet and missed pretty much all of last season due to injury...bust? I get your point, but chances all your expectation for these guys come true are pretty slim.
  21. I think the best comparable for Boeser would be Pastrnak and Nylander. Pastrnak signed 6.67 for six years in 2017-18. Considering that deal was signed 2 years ago, I think that deal is worth 6 x 7-7.5M$ today, which is exactly what Nylander got (despite AAV being funky with 1st year of deal). So i'm guessing if you want to lock up Boeser for 8 years, you need to be at the very least at 8M. Also, signing Boeser will pave the way for the EP extension. My guess is Boeser's agent might suggest a MAtthews type of deal 4/5 years lower AAV than market value, but will bring him to free agency (5x7M?). Not a bad deal for the Canucks, lower caphit for the prime years of EP, but some uncertainty with UFA status.
  22. Spooner has no value...Pittsburgh could have gotten him for free from Edmonton if they wanted to. On one hand you say Spooner is one year remove from 0.5 ppg, on the other you label Zucker as a 0.5ppg after a bad year, but failed to mention he's one year removed from 0.78ppg with 33 goals. Can't pick and choose your stats to make your arguments fit. Minny's offer is much more attractive for Pittsburgh. Zucker clearly the best player for Pittsburgh.
  23. To be fair, what did Horvat do? Beside his 6 game stint in 2014-15...he's never been in the playoff. Yes, 1 pt in 4 game for Point looks bad...but it's such a small sample size....he had 16pts in 17 games last year, that's pretty good. I think Horvat's salary vs Point's soon to be increase is a much better argument against Point than his 2019 playoffs performance.
