Not only them, Team USA as well, but they still won the WHJC anyways.

If I remember the rumors around the draft, the Oilers were more interested in Sergachev than Juolevi and were willing to pick him at 4 I believe and when Columbus picked Dubois, they had no choice to pick Puljujarvi. The other rumors was that they would trade down to MTL's #9 if Dubois was available at 4, with the intention of picking Sergachev at 9.

Brisebois is a finalist for best defenseman in the Q alongside defending champ Samuel Girard (Shawinigan) and WHJC standout Thomas Chabot (St-Johns). Winner will be announced April 5th. Brisebois is the long shot to win, but still nice that he's a finalist.. Well deserved.

So what you learn in high school is useless once at the post-secondary level??? The AHL is suppose to be a development league...not every prospect make the NHL rightaway, they need to be develop down there and that is Green's job. Late 1st rounder are not automatic superstar, but are pretty far from crap. Late 1st rounder and 2nd rounder are not suppose to make the NHL at 19 and score 30 goals by 20. They are suppose to develop in the AHL and then make the jump in the NHL. Right now, prospect coming out of junior and NCAA are jumping in front of our AHL prospects. Wow, if Green made such a miracle in 30 games with Sven Baerstchi, why can't he use his magic on other prospect ?!?!? And I doubt Green had anything to do with Markstrom's development, it's more Rollie and whoever the goalie coach, was that had anything to do with that.. High profile might have been a bad choice of word, but Green had plenty of raw talent to work with and so far, he hasn't really produce anything worth putting him on a pedestal.

Actually, he's not wrong. In the past few years Green has been praise as the next big thing around here, the next Mike Babcock. But the matter of fact remains, that Green had multiple NHL interviews and was passed on by a lot of time. When I look at the high profile prospect in the past few years, few that have been develop by Green made an any impact with the Canucks (Schroeder, Jensen, Corrado, Sauvé, Grenier, Shinkaruk). When you look at the ones that did made it, they didn't really go through Utica (Stetcher, Hutton, Horvat, Baertschi, Tryamkin and you could almost argue for Virtanen and McCann as well). Green had a few success with guys like Gaunce, Labate, but anyone can develop bottom six players. Green brought Utica to the final two years ago riding veteran players like Cal O'Reilly and benefitting from late season acquisition of Conacher and Baerstchi. Other than that, I can't see what Green has really done for this organization.

2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017

Problem with Liljegren playing in the SweHL is, it's really hard to compare with his peers. He could turn out to be a Erik Karlsson or Oliver Kylington/Gustav Forsling. Even for Matthews and Laine playing in the Swiss & Finnish League it was hard comparing them to CHL and NCAA players. The difference is they were both dominating men's league and the World Juniors, which warranted picking them #1&2. Of course this year's draft doesn't have the same high end talent. I haven't seen Liljegren played but looking at his stats in the SweHL, it is pretty average. I wouldn't expect domination like Laine and Matthews because he is a defenseman, but I was expecting better stats when I saw people looking at him for #1 overall. He would need a monster WJHC and a better 2nd half in the SweHL to be considered in the top 3 IMO. This is going to be the most wide open top 10 ever I believe. Usually, we can predict the top 5-10 pretty accurately with maybe 1 surprise, but this year I doubt anyone can predict more than 3 players in the right order. -
If everybody turns out...I don't think anyone will complain. It will be a happy problem for WD. Doubt it does though, and if it did, would be an opportunity to move 1 player for an upgrade in our top 4 or top 2 D.

And I think his game would fit very well with the Sedin, and would benefit greatly from playing with the Sedin, rather than Horvat or Sutter (no offense to them). Sedin-Sedin-Boeser Baertschi-Horvat-Eriksson (or Eriksson-Horvat-Sutter) That would be a top 6 worthy of a playoff team.

I don't believe Juolevi is under contract with London. I think they just own his rights if Juolevi intends to play in the CHL. Like others has said, right now Juolevi is contracts free and could sign a contract with the NHL team owning his rights (Canucks), Finland or the KHL if that's where he wants to play. As long as he's not on a contract with the Canucks, Europe or KHL trumps London IMO. Just like McDavid I believe was drafted in the KHL before being drafted in the NHL. If he wanted to play there he would have to sign with that team only. Don't know if Finland or KHL have drafted Juolevi, but he doesn't have to play in North America if he doesn't to (as long as he's not under contract with Canucks).

I don't think drinking and smoking is something that is hereditary, but character kind of is.

Isn't why it's called a "ceiling"? Once he proves himself, then it's not a ceiling anymore, it's a fact, it's actual level of play? He's somewhat of a surprised 3rd rounder, you can't expect him to have Jonathan Toews ceiling, otherwise he would have gone much sooner.
-
I'll be happy if he can be a Max Pacioretty
-
Haven't seen Boeser play much, but I'd compare him to Pacioretty. Which indeed would be a really nice steal.

difference is Panarin was in the KHL, with the Kovalchuk, Radulov, etc. Not only does Panarin is playing with an Elite player, he's playing with an Elite player in a career year lol. When I see CDC pegging Rodin in our top 6 already, that wishful thinking. The reality is, Rodin, should go back to the AHL and if he can put up the same numbers as he does in the SHL, then he can earn a shot at a top 6 role with the big club. However, the truth is Canucks won't convince him to come here to play in the AHL. To me Rodin would only take a spot/icetime from Virtanen, Etem, Shinkaruk, McCann. I'd rather he stays in Sweden or prove his worth in the AHL, otherwise I'd be happy if another team scouted him in Sweden and want to take a gamble on him for a pick.

Why are we suddenly excited about a player who is leading a league in scoring where ex-nhler Jeff Taffe and his 46 pts in 180 nhl games was second in scoring last year? And where Bill Sweatt who never made our team and was an average player in our farm was a top 10 leading scorer in that same league. You guys need to get some perspective here lol

Actually draft eligible players are a minority at this tournament. Most 18-19years old have already been drafted, like Boeser, so your argument isn't really valid. Also I found that Konecny, in his role as a 3rd/4th checking line, was one of the best player for Canada (just to be clear, in his limited role, he was one of the best). Gallagher spent 36 games in the AHL before moving pro. So I don't consider that a long time, but Konecny has 1 more year of junior of course, but I can see him having a great < 9 games next year with the Flyers. With that said, I'm not saying we should have picked Konecny, over Boeser, as it's way too early to tell, both seem to have a bright future and are different players.

I agree with you. Let's not forget, that Jake came in late to camp and has been playing with NHLers and there is an adjustment to make. On top of that, he has to adjust to a large rink. On top of that he has seen 3 different line combinations since joining the team. Point and Perlini against Belarus (and Beauvillier after Point's injury) Barzal and Hawryluyk(cut) against Czech (while playing his off wing) ***the only reason Virtanen was in this game was to give him playing time since he came to camp later. Marner and Strome on the PP I don't expect Virtanen to dominate like Domi, Reinhart or McDavid did last year, but will be an important player. Even last year I found McDavid wasn't that dominant, he had shifts where he had really good scoring opportunity then you wouldn't see him for a while and he wasn't really clutch compared to Domi, Reinhart and Duclair's line. I don't think it's fair to assess Jake's game yet, based on these two games. I agree he has looked confused at time, but his physical dominance is clearly showing and will be useful, especially against the US I think.

Yet, they are benched in the 3rd period and overtime and this is where the wheels fall off every time for us. I'd say we have too many veteran playing sub-par right more than too many rookies.

Well hicketts and crouse played

Anyone knows why he wasn't in the game against the Russian yesterday at summer camp?
-
Chabot was also very bad for +\- the year before and now was a 1st rounder. Brisebois was playing for one of the worst Q team

there is no "hard" ceiling, but you can always reasonnably estimate the kind of ceiling players have. Actually there are a lot of 2nd rounder that has a higher ceiling than 1st rounder, however they are seen as "high risk", "hit or miss", or low probability of reaching it, so players with "lower ceiling" but much more consistent, reliable and higher probability of reaching it are chosen in the 1st round. i.e. Ho-Sang, Saad, Russian factor

I think the reasonning for Gaunce being a winger, is they really see NHL potential in him. With Henrik, Bonino, Horvat and later on Cassel and McCann, i'm not sure Gaunce would have a spot in the top 9 at center. So they probably figure they'd move him to the wing to see if he could ever be a top 9 (or top 6 winger, wishful thinking). If not, a switch back to 4C would not be that hard of a transition for him. I think Gaunce has all the tools to be an effective top 9 player in the NHL, his only question marks would be, can he adapt to/follow the NHL pace.

Very pleased with the progress of Horvat, but also with WD. I've been complaining all year Bo wasn't playing enough, but with his recent success Horvat has regularly seen more ice-time (13-14min) and now 2nd PP time. I guess I was a little impatient, as I was expecting this early January-ish. So I guess, to have it happen 1-1.5 month after is not that bad. If Horvat's only PP contribution is to win more faceoff and establish early off-zone time, we're already better on the PP. I wouldn't mind also seeing Vey back with the first unit and Burrows on the 2nd. Burrows is a veteran and he also creates a lot of opportunities and gets puck to the net. With Bo picking up the garbage, he could potentially net a few ones on the PP.

I'm not comparing the two players, but I can really see Horvat forming a chemistry with Virtanen, similar to the Perry/Getzlaf pair. Virtanen and Perry's style are very similar. Horvat and Getzlaf not really, but they have that same swagger in them.
