  1. Bo is playing < 10 minutes with Vrbata and Kassian injured, I don't see how that going to change when they come back. With four games left, he would need at least 3 games with > 10 TOI for the Canucks to really consider keeping him. Unless management has already decided to keep Bo until december, without caring for the 1st year of his ELC, meaning they would decide on his faith probably after the WJC.
  2. When Burrows got suspended, Hansen got the first turn with Bonino and Higgins even though Vey is a much better offensive player. When he finally played with them he played well. So i'm not forcing Vey to play with Bonino and Higgins, he played well when paired together.
  3. My guess is Bo will play 4th line minute to finish this trip (maybe being an healthy scratch in ANA or LA), and then when we get back home, might get a few games at around 12 minutes and more significant shift. But in the end, IMO I think Bo is OHL bound. I can't see the Canucks keeping Bo around to play 4th line minutes and maybe being an healthy scratch once in a while this season. Willie D. as been reluctant to give Vey a bigger role despite a good start to the season, I can't see how he would give Horvat a top 9 role, unless a major injury happens in the next 7 games.
  4. Tell me the last time a team blamed their playoff loss on faceoff issues? Or any hockey expert analyzing a team's loss with the main issue being faceoff, or team going into the offseason with their main priority of increasing faceoff performances. No team goes for Size, Depth, Gaoltending, PMD, Grit, etc., those things matter much more. Faceoff it's one tiny things, combined with many other tiny things, yes can make you win or lose a series, but faceoff by itself...no
  5. A strong 3rd liner with good faceoff abilities will cost a fortune, specially at the deadline, something similar to Roy. A few years ago Pahlsson was relatively cheap, but didn't really help. A 4th liner with good faceoff would be cheaper, but do you really want to send your fourth liner to defend a lead in a defensive zone faceoff or send him in an offensive zone faceoff when you trail. Doesn't make sense. It's important, but there is so much you can do without overpaying for a high profile player. On that note, boy how good it would be to still have Manny on that fourth line. Really useful for Montreal, but on the other hand where would Vey be in all this (before the Burrows injury)?
  6. Shawn Matthias has 2 assist in 12 games, if Bo can match him defensively, why would he be more of an offensive liability than him?? We know Bo will likely just get better offensively, while Matthias that's pretty much it.
  7. I bet you say that and you haven't even watch 1 AHL game. You base your opinion solely on the fact Horvat got 0 points. Nobody really insist he play at 19 years old, no matter what, I think we are just all excited to see him play at the pro, but until we do, we can't say for sure if he should stay or go. And I agree he can't make the team base on faceoff alone, that would be stupid. But if he's not a liability and doesn't have to be sheltered....why not?
  8. I just hope we don't toy with him like Buffalo did with Grigorenko. For me there is only 2 options 1) He stays with the Canucks the whole season, no WJC (no loan). 2) He stays for 9 or less games then London and WJC for the rest of the season. I don't want the third option, where people suggested that he sticks around until WJC camp, by behing in and out of the line-up and a decision of wheter he stays or not is made only after WJC. In theory it might sound good from a hockey experience perspective, but mentally/confidence wise, that is not good for his development.
  9. If Ehlers or Nylander's skills were so off the chart, they would have gone in the top 3, like Patrick Kane, Yakupov, RNH or Duchene. I'm pretty sure if they were the same draft year as Yakupov/RNH, they wouldn't have been in the top 5 either. Look at how these two guys skills didn't easily translate to the NHL (more Yak than RNH). And look at that, without Drouin and a stacked team, Ehlers is now a -9 in junior and only 1PPG instead of 1.6 One-dimensional? Horvat - Clutch, Two-way/defensive bulldozer, tough to play against Jensen - Talented Shooter, big body not necessarily physical McCann - Two-way, more offensive forward than Horvat, Kesler-esque game Virtanen - Speedy sniper, big body, physical presence Shinkaruk - speedy, gritty winger, heart of a lion, finisher Gaunce - Big body, not physical, but high IQ, great leader They won't all reach that potential, but one dimensional? really?
  10. I'm wondering if Miller or Lack get injured, hope not "knock on wood", and we recalled Markstrom. Once the injured goalie comes back, do Markstrom has to go through waivers again if we send him back down? I think if it's not for a long, there can be an emergency call-up and maybe he wouldn't have to go through waivers again once returned to Utica, but if the injury is a few weeks/months? How does it work? Would the Canucks recall Eriksson instead of Markstrom, despite his stellar play, in fear of losing him through waivers?
  11. Exaclty, we are OLD! Our last draft pick playing with us is Hansen in 2004. Our lame as our scouting have been between 2004 and 2012. Yes we have late good picks, but we are old and no where near to be a contender. If we want to be our kids needs to play, not all at the same time, but Jensen should be up. Schroeder, Hodgson, Grabner, White, Shirokov, Connauton, Sauvé were just as good as these guys "five minutes" after their draft too. None of them are playing for us. Seriously, are we really that much better/worse with or without Jensen in our top 9. That's not going to be a difference maker wheter were in the playoff or not. However giving Jensen (or Horvat, or Shinkaruk) a full year in our top 9, can actually make a difference next year and two year from now, if that player can establish himself as a young, but core player of our team.
  12. That's not my point, my point is our only forward player that we drafted are the Sedins and Hansen and those team are not contenders by only picking in the top 5. They had other great picks later on
  13. Exactly, if we peak in 2-3 years, we need the Jensen, Horvat, Shinkaruk, Corrado to get experience right now. Not expecting them to be dominant players on a contender when it's their 1st or 2nd year in the league. I'm not asking to put a kid line behind the Sedin rightaway. But to me Jensen is NHL ready and should have been given a top 9 chance. Yes Horvat will get a look, but as it looks right now (even before the injury) he was going to be on the 4th line. And we expect him to blow everyone away otherwise it's basically OHL bound. Shinkaruk I agree needs AHL time, but I would also expect a 20 games NHL stint, but with the Higgins, Burrows, Hansen. Matthias, Richardson he'll never get a shot at a decent NHL experience. Gotta put some faith in the kids too, otherwise we'll never be contenders. Toffoli and Pearson were brought up at the same time as Jensen last year, and now are palying with Carter on a regular line. yes they had a cup run that Jensen didn't have, but still. BOS played Reilly, Krug and Hamilton with veteran like Chara, Seidenberg, Bergeron, Krejic, and look what it did. St-Louis slowly integrated Schwartz and Tarasenko into their top 9, then 6, despite a deep forward group. We don't trust our kids, if they are not Selke candidate yet, they don't get to play.
  14. LA : Doughty (2nd), Schenn (4th), Kopitar (10th), Pearson (30th), Brown (13th), Voynov (32nd), Quikc (72nd), BOS : Krejci (63rd), Hamilton (8th), Bergeron (45th), Lucic(50th), Marchand (71th) CHI : Toews (3rd) Kane (1st), Seabrok (13th), Keith (54th), Saad (42nd), Shaw (139th), Hajlamarson (108th) MTL : Galchenyuk (3rd), Gallagher (147th), Pacioretty (22nd), Subban (43rd), Plekanec (71st), Emelin 84th) STL : Bakces (62nd), Berglung (25th), Pietrangelo (4th), Swchart (14th), Tarasenko(16th), Oshie 24th Van : Hodgson (8th), Horvat (9th), Grabner (14th), Schreoder (22nd) We had good picks too and none of them are playing yet. Man, Virtanen will get crucified if he doesn't come through.
  15. If we are going to win the cup in the next 2 years (which is highly improbable, see impossible), we need our Horvat, Shink, Jensen to contribute, we won't win the cup with the Higgins and co. on the 2nd line. Not saying play then as our 2nd line right now. But at some point this year we need 2 of those player in our top6/9 logging siginificant minutes.
  16. Look at the contender, they all develop drafted and develop their core players. High profile UFA are more rare then they used to be and when there is some, they don't want to come to Canada, unless overpaid. Horvat from the looks of it will get 4th line minutes and might be sent down. Yeah! bring on the kids when the Sedins are gone, so they can look just like the Oilers. Why don't bring some now (in a significant role, top6/9) and learn from the Sedins and be part of the core group.
  17. yeah at first I didn't include Hansen since he's now basically a 4th liner and not like he has a big impact on our team. What improvements? Changes, yes, so far we can't say for sure if we improved (well in a way, hard to get worst at)... Basically it's the same scouting staff, same assistant GM. Pretty much only Benning and Weisbrod are new. And from what we see on the ice, pretty much the same team as last year. Vrbata replaced Kesler, Miller replaces Luongo (pretty much same results), Burrows and Higgins still our suppose "secondary scoring", Kassian still stuck on 3-4th line duty, Vey beside playing 1st PP is a 4th line player and from the looks of it, so will Horvat. All the significant changes are pretty much for insignant role. Rookie/prospect still no closer to cracking a core role. I like WD, and he can put the system he wants, it's still basically the same core we had the past 5 years. When the Sedins finally leaves, then the kids will have their shot and without any experience, they'll look just liek the oilers.
  18. Doesn't matter how many Goals, Pts he scores, if he can't play both ways he won't be playing for the Canucks anytime soon. Another player who's talent will be wasted in the minor because he's no Selke candidate. We saw it with Grabner and Hodgson back then, now it's Jensen turns and soon Shinkaruk and Virtanen will be the same. We could put Kassian in that mix too (but he plays because he has size and can fight). We'd rather play 10-20G scorer, hand of stones like Hansen, Burrows, Richardson and Higgins but are responsible, than just giving a tiny tiny chance to an offensive player that has the potential of scoring 30, because he's no defensive specialist. The only two forwards in our line-up that we actually drafted are the Sedins and Hansen (Burrows wasn't drafted), and that was 15+ years ago (Sedin). That says a lot about our philosophy/development process.
  19. Does anyone knows with who he will play?
  20. In a picture from training camp with Subban, Demko, Fox, Horvat, McCann, Cassel, etc. Horvat looks the same height as Fox who's listed à 6'0'' and smaller than McCann who's also listed at 6'0''. In some pictures he barely looks taller than Shinkaruk. Highly doubt Horvat is more than 6'0''. Considering most of these stats are usually a bit inflated i'd say he's rounded up at 6'0'', but is a tad smaller. I know pictures doesn't tell the whole story, but just by looking at them on the ice, you can easily tell Gaunce is much more taller than Horvat, and if they only have 1" difference between them you couldn't tell. When Gaunce is on the ice, you can tell he's one of the tallest, while when Horvat's there if anyhting he looks smaller. http://2.cdn.nhle.com/canucks/images/upload/gallery/2014/07/July1114_gallery38_slide.jpg
  21. I like it too, but i'd put Horvat C and Vey RW. I think they are both better in those respective role.
  22. If anything, i'd say Matthias would be, like you said, meh, during the regular season, but would be that unsung hero who steps up in the playoffs. Compare to Hansen, who's consistent throughout the season but can't elevate his game when it matters. No proof to my theory, but would take my chances on Matthias still.
  23. Not to bash on Hansen, but it would be a waste to keep him on the fourth and play him < 10 minutes at 2.5M. Plus we have Vrbata, Burrows, Vey (better suited for wing IMO), Kassian and you could also argue Jensen who are more than qualified to play top 9 RW. Therefore, Hansen is expandable IMO. Plus, the Sedin played less than 20 yesterday, so 10 minutes for our 4th line was generous, it wont always be like that, even though the plan is to role 4 lines. 8min should be the average. So that's a small role for a 2.5M$ man. I think there'll be a rotation between Horvat, Matthias and Richardson for 3/4C during the year, depending on the schedule, opponent, injuries and Bo's progression as the season goes on.
  24. guessing upperbody since he was hit hard (clean) by Pitlick
