Miller already has anger issues and you want to take him off the 1st PP

Not making excuses for the shit show that we are, but I'm not reading too much into these comments by Trotz. He's got all the leverage, whether our organization was all class or not, he wouldn't be interested in the job anyways, because we don't have a contending roster. Trotz has the luxury of choosing where he wants to go next, that will be a contender or team on the rise. So that's easy to say when you're in that position. If he had no opportunity elsewhere and wanted to come back his story would be different. He praises the Maple Leafs, but not too long ago that same management team let Babcock humiliates his players without doing anything. So, that's a pretty selective memory if you ask me. If miraculously the Canucks start winning under this management, everyone will lineup to coach this team.

[Proposal] NYI - VAN (Partner for Hughes)
timberz21 replied to Phil_314's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
No offense, but who hasn't -
Well Boudreau was 8-1-1, so that's not happening again. So I'll say 1-8-1 and a whole lot of... "Bruce where is he?" chant

He was drafted 7 years ago! He’s got 27 nhl games under his belt. We’ve giving up on prospect with higher profile/ceiling that were drafted after him (Juolevi, Lind, Gadj, Madden, Dipietro) Face it, he’s just another Gaunce, Jensen, Cassels, Shinkaruk, Subban) There are dime of dozen player better than him (and around his age) going through waivers every year.

Who knows... Garland "broke out" under Tocchet in Arizona, so why wouldn't he like him Nobody (Cull, Green or Boudreau) couldn't get anything out of Lockwood since forever, Tocchet ain't a miracle worker. I think it's long overdue that we face the fact that Lockwood is a career AHLer. If anything, I hope Tocchet gets more out of our defenseman!!

Hughes is a 0.83 career PPG while OEL is 0.48. OEL reached 45+ pts once (55), while Hughes has already 3 in 4 season (4/4 if wasn't injured). This year Hughes is 1.0PPG while OEL is 0.5 PPG. No way OEL doubles his points with more PP time. You say it's not even close defensively, well it's not even close offensively.

The difference is Benning didn’t have a young elite center man, defenseman, and good #1 goalie, all under 25 or so, to build his retool on, they have that. If Vegas and Seattle could build good teams from scratch, I believe the Canucks can do a re-tool with those players in a mid-short term. The biggest challenge for the Canucks is not to find good players to surround these guys, it’s finding cap space to bring them here. imagine having waited out LE and not having OEL and Gunther in the prospect bank. The Canucks would be in a totally different (very good) situation right now. Yet it would be the same roster but with a ton of cap flexibility that one desperate last move by Benning really screwed us long term. I honestly think we aren’t that far away. The problem isn’t as much as finding players for that re-tool, but rather finding cap space. Therefore, the margin for error is very slim. My definition of a rebuild is trading away EQ, EP and TD for a bunch of picks and prospect. There is no guarantee those pick will reach the potential of these guys. My definition of a re-tool is considering trading everyone except these three. so it depends how each one sees it IMO.

[Signing] Wilds Re-sign Matt Boldy 7x7M$
timberz21 replied to timberz21's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My view is completely opposite. The game is getting younger and younger and teams that capitalize on the 3-year ELC of their best prospect are usually better equip. Players don't get to UFA until they are 28 (sometimes 27), while players usually peak between 24-28. That's when you want to pay them their worth. The reason why teams are so cap strapped is because they keep paying for past services when they get to 28 and by 30-32 they are already not living up to these new monster contract. Also a lot of teams "burn" their 1st year of their prospect's ELC on purpose (10 games after NCCA or CHL season), just so they can get to that bridge earlier and sign a friendly contract. Players are no fools, you want to go that way, well the price or term of those friendly deal just keeps getting up. If you're a veteran and you want to stay in this league, well stay fit/productive or signs shorter term deal that you will actually live up too. Otherwise those burden contracts keeps money from team signing their up-and-coming stars (or sacrificing depth to surround those stars properly). I know it's a completely different sports and financial structure, but NBA deals are maxed at 5 years. Lebron James doesn't have a 10 year guaranteed contract, he has player option (which the NHL doesn't have I know) but he can renegotiated every other year and as long as he continuing to person, he will get max deals. I'd be ok with younger players (24 or younger) getting longer deal 10 years, but would cap players 28 or 30 and up at 5 years. NHL is one of the only sports where all contracts all fully guaranteed, maybe that need to change so players are more accountable for their performances/$ value. I know hockey is a tough sports, but we want teams to spent their money (which is our money) better and have a better show. For every Nathan Mackinnon bargain, there are at least 50 LE/Myers/OEL burdens. -

(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
timberz21 replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I get that Miller should've been traded last year, but he's still a PPG player or close, how does he have no value. If Miller had not re-signed with us and was going to be UFA this summer with the same numbers he had, he'd still get his 7x8M$ this summer. Someone would've offer that this summer, ergo, IMO he still have trade value. The only problem with the fact he's signed is it remove potential suitor at the deadline, because contenders don't want the term associated with him. But I'm sure a middle of the pack team that wants to make a big move and has some cap flexibility in the future or lots of pending UFAs would take a chance on Miller to make a deep playoff run. IMO Seravalli is poor man version of Dreger, and I don't hold Dreger to a very high standard. Today's insiders are more interested in click bait than actually being right. I miss Bobby Mac. -
"Michigan" goals should be against the rules
timberz21 replied to Gurn's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Maybe, but in those days there were only 3-4 cameras, far away, with lots of bad angles to review a play. Nowadays, with cellphones, their literally more cameras than fans in the buildings. -
"IF" we went into rebuild mode! (Discussion)
timberz21 replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I know everything we do are big IFs, but come on now, building a 2025-2026 with 2023 1st 5th overall and 15th overall in the lineup is not even speculation or projection, that's pure fantasy. You'd have better chance of winning the lottery than getting 50% of the projected 2025-2026 lineup correct. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
timberz21 replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I agree with the need for defense and RHD prospect, but at the same time, we can't go about this with blinders and put our chips all-in for a a RHD prospect that might or might not reach his ceiling and become top pairing/top 4 stud. Most of them are drafted. If someone is coughing up a blue chip forward that's clearly above the others (with a similar complimentary packages), we need to consider it, I hope. -
Nothing, people always remember 1st rounder and think automatically that they are still 18 years old and full of potential, yet have actually not followed their career to realize their game is full of flaws or have not adapted to the NHL style.

Technically, not tampering, but this never happens for multiple reasons. I think it would be unethical and probably illegal if a written agreement was made and postdated to July 1st. So this kind of deal would need to be a verbal contract. But that opens up another bag of problems: - What if they get hurt; - What if they suck real bad after the trade - What if the player actually likes his new home and changes his minds. - What if the team makes a trade and no longer requires those players. I don't think the Team, the agent and the player would want to officially enter into this kind of agreement since no one knows what the future holds. Can a team back out of such a deal? can a player? Verbal agreement are bindings so that could open a shitload of legal problems IMO So can teams say that we're not closing the door for a reunion of course, but you will never find such a binding agreement beforehand IMO.

(Proposal) 1 Trade to fix everything
timberz21 replied to Nathancanuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Karlsson having a career resurgence that's for sure, but not worth the risk. There are still 4 more years after this one and it just scream OEL 2.0. If we were a cup contender maybe, but were not even a playoff team, so it helps short term, but screw us big time long term. Just another panicking move IMO -
[PROPOSAL] Bo Horvat to Winnipeg Jets
timberz21 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Wouldn't risk it. Dubois wants out, but he's also making it clear he wants to be UFA as well. So chance of re-signing him are slim. And Winnipeg is basically half way between Vancouver and London. It's closer, but still pretty far. -

[Proposal] Some Trades to Move Forward - Bo Stays!
timberz21 replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Like Kuzmenko didnt chose Vancouver as a mean to an end? He chose a destination where he could have success and cash in on his next contract. I don’t think he chose Vancouver to spend the rest of his life. He won’t do Vancouver any favor when the négociation will go down. also I believe Vegas didn’t wait around with Slepyshev (I believe it was?) and that didn’t hurt their reputation
