Not a perfect Deal (Proposal)
timberz21 replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Value-wise, it's pretty even I think, but I just don't see it happening. Winnipeg's core is getting older and their window is shrinking, but I don't think adding Horvat and removing Dubois makes them contenders. More of a lateral move and they get older and will need to carry Horvat's new cap hit. While I think Dubois will end up in MTL's I don't think they have to move Dach to acquire him, they can just wait until he's UFA, or more likely will trade prospects and picks (they have a ton) instead of an impactful roster player. They bought low on Dach and right now his value just went up significantly, I don't see them flipping him for Dubois who's going to cost more, when they can have both. -
Boeser will not go to a contender. They will use that cap space elsewhere that isn't a such risk. I could see bottom feeder taking a risk on him to add scoring and experience to bridge the gap with their prospect, OR a bubble team that would like to take a flyer on a goal scorer and hope Brock can find his touch. But the return won't be very high, my guess is the Canucks re-signed him in the hopes of flipping him for a RHD but there wasn't many takers. Canucks will need to take the highest pick or prospect they can and move on. I do believe there is a market for a 25 years old former high profile player with 2.5 years left on his deal with an OK aav. Canucks just need to lower their expectations at this point.

I don't think you can retain for 1 year only. I think you need to retain % of the whole contract, but I could be wrong.

Except Quick was probably the worst of the two lol

I like the NBA format of 7-8-9-10th place battle it out, Even though regular season is suppose to be meaningful, it's still a long season and it's fitting the bubble team battle it out in the end. The only reason i'd consider this for the NHL is because of that annoying OT/shutout loss dummy point. Teams with more wins than 7-8th place can end up 9th-10th because of it. Ultimately, hockey is such a physical sports and guys are already beaten up at the end, we can't add another round even it's only a game or two. Every sport you are at risk of injury when you play more game, however, hockey is different. You can get hit by a puck and break something, you can be cut by a skate, you could fall awkwardly onto the ice or into the board, there are so much intangible that we can't add a layer. Otherwise the best teams would never win, it would be the team that lucky and stays the most healthy that will.

[Signing] Stars re-sign Roope Hintz
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Heck of a deal for Dallas. He's only going to get better, in 2-3 years that salary will be Mackinnon-cheap. -
[Signing] Stars re-sign Roope Hintz
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Zetterberg and Datsyuk were 7th rounder (or even further back then), so basically anyone shouldn't trade any pick ever? -
The weaker Q you are talking about won the last 3 memorial cup and 6 of the last 10...just saying. We are in 2022, not in the 1980s, might need to update your list of prejudice. You don't dominate at the CHL and WHJC and make your way to #1 overall just by being physically more mature than your peers. Is he living to the expectation, no, of course not, but is he a piece a trash like you seem to pretend, no either.
-
Stay put, most likely. Might sell Motte type player like last year, or acquire depth RHD if price is dirth cheap. Otherwise, the only "big" trade that would be made would be a 1on1 type of deal where we trade Boeser and acquire an equivalent RHD, for example. But these types of trade opportunities don't come by very often.

[Proposal] Small tweaks to fix the defence
timberz21 replied to DownUndaCanuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
That couldn't be further from the truth. Montreal has 11 pick in the 2023 draft (including three x 4th rounder) and 9 in 2024 draft. Not to mention the 11 picks they chose in 2022 They are going to start flipping those picks for assets or move up in the draft. I doubt they are looking for more. At one point they will be maxed out on their 50 contracts limit and won't be able to sign them all. Also Savard is a local boy, with a pretty good contract. I doubt MTL lets him go right now, unless someone overpays at the trade deadline. He's a good mentor for their young defensemen. -
[RUMOUR] Vancouver and Columbus in trade talks
timberz21 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They are keeping those assets for Dubois IMO. All signs point to him wanted to play in MTL, and whether its in free agency or MTL trades for him first, seems like worst kept secret of the NHL. -
[RUMOUR] Vancouver and Columbus in trade talks
timberz21 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They made that investment for 7 years. Yes Johnny's prime is now, but they are dead last, they can't go all in in that position. Realistically, their target is more like year 2-3-4 of Johnny's contract, which Johnson and Jiricek will be more valuable than Horvat then. -

timberz21 replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Oh boy, people here will be disappointed if the expectation is Jonhson or Jiricek (worst if you're expecting both!). I love Horvat and we should expect a good return, but Columbus is dead last, they aren't trading their last 2021 #5 overall who's already contributing or their 2022 #6 overall, that's Madness. Even if they are eyeing Horvat not necessarily to save their season but long term, they need Johnson and Jiricek to support Gaudreau and Horvat. So, lower your expectations or the most likely scenario is they are not talking about Horvat -
[discussion] a new identity
timberz21 replied to Angry Goose's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Wrong, this team needs defenders who can defend AND defenders who can move the puck and bring offense. You trade Hughes, you're just creating another hole back there. And you'll never get full value for him. All you'll get is a package of 1st rounder and prospects, and you hope they all pan out, otherwise you're trading the best player of the deal. Defenders who can defends are easy to find. The difficulty is finding a defender who can defends consistently AND play 22+ minutes a night, especially on the right side. Only options to acquire such a player is to draft and develop him or overpay during free agency or overpay via trade. -
[Proposal] Revamping the roster blockbuster edition
timberz21 replied to Odd.'s topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Everyone says no. COL : Mackinnon's salary is doubling next year, they can't afford Miller and honestly don't need him. They got Landeskog who's going to return eventually. NJ : Not sure what they are gaining. Serangovich as similar production to Boeser and much cheaper. Severson might be struggling but will need him if they want to build on that strong start and be in the playoff. TB: Pretty sure they could get better assets than Garland for Cernak, if they wanted. Big if also, since they locked him up long-term at a decent cap to be part of their future, not to trade him to save cap. -
Senators to retire Chris Neil's No. 25
timberz21 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
On one hand I agree with that, On the other, Senators is a relatively new franchise with not many players that would qualify for that (compared to some original 6 or older franchises). Also, with how the game has evolved and being more a business than a game and players spending less and less time with only one franchise, I think the jersey retirement standards needs to come down otherwise, we won't see any jersey retirement anymore. But I agree with most, every franchise should have 2 level, ROH and jersey retirement. -
[Speculation] Friedman says NYI scouting Canucks
timberz21 replied to 86Viking's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not going to happen. If they want to make a run, they need Dobson. Canucks would need to be out of the playoffs for sure also for us to trade him. So not going to happen. we can get greedy with Kuzmenko if we want but he can also walk for free July 1st. Not like he’s been a Canucks for life and has a lot of ties here yet. -
[Speculation] Friedman says NYI scouting Canucks
timberz21 replied to 86Viking's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My guess would be Kuzmenko. He’s relatively unknown to the league, he’s having a good season and Canucks are not. He’s also a pending UFA and cheap, so trade deadline target . My guess is just gathering info on him maybe few other Canucks players but nothing imminent just click bait by Friedman -
[Discussion] What is Brock Boeser worth?
timberz21 replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
He played one time, had a pretty decent showing with 11 pts in 17 games. Can't blame him for his team not making the playoffs. Penguins paid a 2nd, 3rd and 2 players for Richard Rakell last year with even more mediocre playoff stats. The biggest turnoff with Brock is not his production or salary, it's the ability to remain healthy. People here fantasized that Brock would be a 50th goal early on and are still clinging to that dream. Easy to say his ceiling was overstated, but he's still a good hockey player that's still young, attractive with an ok salary (far from a burden), if he can show he can stay on the ice. I can easily see a lot of suitors if healthy. -
[Discussion] What is Brock Boeser worth?
timberz21 replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Agree now is not the time to trade him. But he's a young veteran, with goal scoring abilities. That always attract some buyers. IMO he's definitely going to attract some team at the deadline, but also maybe before that with a team struggling to get some goals and being a fringe playoff team. -
Prospects like Myrenberg are traded all the time. When they do, people here says Who for who? Because we are fans, we knows our prospect in-depth, while we don't really care about lower graded prospect around the league. When we trade one, we are trading away the next Bobby Orr but when other teams do it, it's ok. Chicago who is also rebuilding just traded away a former 1st rounder. Yet everyone thinks we should be doing what Chicago is doing right now with their rebuild. For every Forsling, we traded away, we have kept a ton of others that never panned out. Rodin, Brisebois, Lockwood, Lind, Gadjovich, Subban, Virtanen, Gaunce, Mallet, Grenier, Jensen, etc. Instead of keeping them, we could have traded them away like we did with Dahlen and get something decent in return. Win some, lose some. Think we need to get over Myrenberg.
-
Lol only on CDC where you trade a long shot 5th rounder and act like we just traded away Bobby Orr. if this trade was happening between The Ducks and Bruins, everyone would say, who for who? Classic CDC overvaluing our prospect again. I get we have a need right now, but Myrenberg would t solve that void for another 3 years at least. That’s 2 draft, and 3 UFA, not to mention all the trade opportunities during that span. Geez chill out.
