Have you forgotten the *EVIL* Team Iceland in the Mighty Ducks 2?
-
TBay traded us maybe our best forward for a 1st round pick & they still won two Cups. As to the cap manipulation......."It ain't cheating if you don't get caught".

[DEBATE] Which #9 in their CANUCKS prime are you taking?
NewbieCanuckFan replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
Different ownership back then. No cap world, thus teams were able to keep their star players let alone compete for free agents. But we didn't have ownership, even if local, that had THAT pockets. -
Would've been even a whole lot worse if people were able to get around the world like they are today.

That's rich, coming from a Melmacian.

Rome actually wasn't that bad a depth D on a contending team. Knew his role and filled it. Poolman has the potential to be better.

That expansion money cash from Vegas & Seattle must make for a great retirement fund for the owners. -
Will be tough as he'll be expected to bear the majority of the tough minutes as well as unlike in Arizona, pretty much nobody gave a dog feces how the team did (zero pressure). It's like the difference in pressure from being the backup goalie vs starting goalie.

Hopefully not the same doctors that examined Cody Hodgson.

Everyone is probably aware just how brutal the Japanese Imperial Army & their other armed forces were during WWII. Even worse, was the virtual ignoring/revisionism taught in Japanese schools regarding some of the truly descipable crimes their forces committed. At least in Germany, there was & still is real 'war guilt' (to be fair, there will be always a certain segment of any country's population that will remain to be nationalistic to an extreme degree). However, there is always the danger of assuming *ALL* people of a particular nation are the same. Chiune Sugihara was a Japanese diplomat that save the lives of thousands of Jews in WWII (he enabled them to get visas to escape). I never heard of this guy before (and I have taken numerous history courses in College/University). Only came across his name by accident. Wiki of course isn't a great source, but the following will give a person an idea of his great deeds: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiune_Sugihara “Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.” John Stuart Mill

Yeah if Woo can continue his development into a solid two-way defenseman, he ticks so many boxes (physical, two-way defenseman, etc.,).

Teams looking to just hit the cap floor aren't looking to spend actual money. Ferlands uninsured contract makes it toxic for those teams. Easier to get an insured contract for a player in perpetual LTIR and pay out virtual actual dollars.

NFL union is as weak as ****. It's everyone (players) out for themselves (only) pretty much in that league. NHL union is significantly stronger.
-
Only two defensemen in that top ten is a potential problem. Though Rathbone is looking as sure as one can be (with a prospect) as being an NHLer. Particularly when you look at our blueline (two of our top four are north of 30 in terms of age). Can always trade one (or more) of those forward prospects for defensemen prospects though.

[Proposal] Elias Pettersson change of scenery
NewbieCanuckFan replied to NMHockey's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Big difference between the two is the Ballard *NEVER* looked anywhere remotely close to what he was brought in here for (though he was damaged goods when we got him, didn't he have some kind of major him surgery in the offseason?). Booth actually was putting up top 6 type numbers before that Avs player took him out with a 'knee on knee' hit. Never was the same after that cheapshot. Now his 'off the ice' stuff I could've done without though.
