[Report] Alexander Edler to hit free agency
NewbieCanuckFan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Bad groin Garrison was acquired by Tampa via trade with us as well. They've won a couple Cups during this time, so while they may not do well on al ltheir transactions, tough to argue against their end result (Stanley Cup). -
[Proposal] Making more cap space.

Reason why I don't think they'll take Holtby. All the NHL teams have to leave at least one goalie exposed. They (Seattle) wants to compete probably sooner rather than later (they've got ownership with deep pockets). My speculation of course. I think Holtby will be bought out after the expansion draft (heck, the Kraken might pick him up then if he's willing to sign for cheap). -

Then I have to laugh at the Kraken GM if that happens. One less team to worry about in our division. -

He's an aging poor backup goalie with a 4+ million cap hit. He ain't the best player (for Seattle) to take. Far better for Seattle to take a low cap hit player on the Canucks we have left exposed. Better to use the other 2-3 million in cap space on depth player who will be in their iced lineup every game. -

Kraken won’t take Holtby without a decent pick. I’d rather take my chances with Benning & the scouting staff using that pick to find another diamond in the rough. -
[Rumor] Canucks Interested in Tyler Bertuzzi

I don't know who/how they (Red Wings) acquired all those picks in the upcoming draft but man do they have alot of picks (doesn't guarantee any of them will be NHLers obviously). -
You've been to Calgary? I'd make sure you got that dose of Pencillin for those "extracarricular activities" you undertook in the "Red Mile".

[Signing] Panthers re-sign Gustav Forsling
NewbieCanuckFan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
We have been spoiled with the clear home run drafts by Benning (eg., EP, Boeser, Hughes & I'd put Hogs in that category). Some guys *will* take longer to develop. Some will have their ups & downs. Some might end up being just average. Patience should be the mantra. -

Shortened season this past year obviously but it also was a compressed "work schedule" which limits "healing time" between games. I guess we'll find out this upcoming season whether this was an aberation or not. -

Typical Canuck luck. He didn't miss a single NHL game for each of the past two seasons. -

Probably should just stick to discussing Forsling. Gillis is gone & likely never will get another NHL GM job at this point. I should've mentioned, it was also mainly his current coach that Gustav is looking like a NHLer. Development is often as important as actually drafting talent. He was his coach that gave him a spot in the NHL back when Q was with the Black Hawks. -

Clendening could barely skate at the AHL level at the time. Scout watching him have been drinking far too many beers when somebody suggested we should trade anything for him (forgot who we gave up) & just looked at his stat sheets (guy sure could pile up points in the AHL, he just couldn't skate). -

To be fair, this is one guy that Gillis brought in that was still only 24 years old when Benning was hired as GM: Would still look great as Hughes defensive partner today but we needed Loui Eriksson on that 4th line. -

Particularly in the case of OJ where LEGIT injuries wiped out at least a couple years of development. -

He's still only 25 years old today. Look no further than our own Juolevi to notice that defensemen sometimes take longer to develop. -

Fantastic drafting (late round pick). Awful professional scouting (trading prospect for a turd). It happens. -
Farm team name, brand and logo reveal

Think that "experiment" lasted like only two seasons before the Canucks moved their AHL affiliate elsewhere. Died due to lack of interest & I think horrible management. -
RD with still some gas left in the tank.
