  1. One time we had to send down a Center to the minors (Sam Gagner) that would be a quality center at the AHL level, Benning loaned him to the Toronto Marlies as a favor to Gagner (I think so he'd be closer to the family/relatives or something). Gagner repaid the favor by bad mouthing Benning anyways. So much for trying to help a guy out. And he deserved to be demoted to the minors at the time as he was just half-assing it out there on the ice (imho).
  2. I prefer to wait until that so-called "rumor" becomes fact.
  3. Yup, complaining about the refs IS legit imho. They’ve been consistent. Consistently bad. But yeah, they are only following orders from up high.
  4. Funny thing about the crying about how the Bolts cheated by exploiting this so-called loophole that nobody mentions one important fact. Back in 2015/2016, all the teams (then) voted to close this loophole. The vote failed. Only TWO teams voted to close the loophole. Guess who one of the two teams were? That’s right, Tampa Bay. You might as well blame Aquilini/Jim Benning for not voting to close loophole as the St Louis were the other team that voted to close the loophole.
  5. Not enough people in power cared way back in 2015: https://www.tsn.ca/gms-would-like-answers-about-patrick-kane-loophole-1.454158 So why should things change now?
  6. The ultimate capitalists, the Ferengi completely understand:
  7. To go further off in another direction (), the first instance where I heard that old Alfred Tennyson poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" (the ill fated kamikazi charge of the British light cavalry against the Russians in the Crimean War):
  8. The 6th army wouldn't have been destroyed had they retreated (granted, all that likely would've end up being prolonging the inevitable). I do concede your point about fighting another country on its "own turf" (they are smart enough to do it via "proxies"). Stalin & the Red Army found out the hard way in Finland during the First Soviet-Finnish War. The Soviets did end up winning but a fairly high cost (at an inopportune time, not long before the German invasion of the Soviet Union).
  9. Germans failed to learn the lessons from the famous Italian general Napoleon in regards to fighting a war on multiple fronts. And Russia is ruled probably by a bunch of oligarchs today.
  10. Russia will fold like a cheap suit if confronted by China. One is a rising power (and real threat). The other isn't.
  11. Is it REALLY any different in the real world? It's almost all about WHO you know rather than WHAT you know (re: getting a job).
  12. Big names also tend to have some form of NTC (excluding UFAs). They tend to want to go to playoff teams or big US market teams.
  13. Which would still be fine if we didn't have that six million dollar 4th line winger Loui.
  14. Doubt opposing offensive stars will be facing aging 4th liners like Beagle (unless Willie D is the coach in his 1-2-3-4 vs line matching) too much in any event.
  15. Sabres are on their third GM since Jim Benning started in the summer of 2014. That was the consequence of failure for the Sabres. Might be a reason why they suck as well. That frequency of change can't be good.
  16. Nah. Kai En Tai are duo that are truly evil! Indeed!
  17. My memory is hazy but didn't he retire early because he got sick & tired of the Jacques Lemaire style defensive hockey? Lafleur was all about entertaining the fans. The fact he could score clutch goals didn't hurt.
  18. Cut out the middle man and have the Islanders just offer a 2nd round pick to Seattle to select a prospect they can afford to lose.
  19. John Carpenter was wanting to do a sequel to Black Christmas. I *think* he reworked it into Halloween when he was unable to do that.
  20. Babe Ruth was not only a hitter (with all those home runs) but how many baseball players were legit allstars as a *pitcher*? In fact, a strong argument can be made, had he stayed a pitcher, he might've STILL gotten into the baseball hall of fame. That's how good a player he was. Forget the "fat guy" at the end of his career. Sure the competition was watered down (color barrier) but that still is one impressive feat. I'm pretty sure he had at least one shutout in the World Series *as a pitcher*! IMHO, this ability is often overlooked when talking about Babe Ruth.
  21. Just taking a quick glance I notice they have Johnny Boychuk @ 6 million cap hit *but* on LITR (one season left on his contract). So are they really that much in a cap crunch?
