[Rumour] Seth Jones to test FA
NewbieCanuckFan replied to KariyaSakicAnderson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
What does he "owe the Canucks" to sign a "nice deal" (for us)? Nothing. Any extension will come at a price. Too much a price. And I'm not even going to get into the assets required to get him via trade in the first place. -
Those picks are basically meaningless, even if they already didn't already own multiple 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th round picks for the upcoming draft.

Jovocop was mean hombre if sufficiently provoked as Adam Deadmarsh found out (that was was never I think the same after fighting Jovo). Yeah he had some defensive weaknesses (but imho, that was more a reflection of the Marc Crawford "offensive system"). Didn't Jovo hold his own against the Legion of Doom line back when he was a Panther in that Flyers-Panthers playoff series? -

Yeah he had other injuries that he battled thru but I believe that wrist accident was the one that really negatively impacted his development. I *think* he was able to still have some minor league career (AHL) because of perseverance/wanting to succeed in spite of that obstacles. -

Not a car accident but another former Canuck 1st round pick suffered a freak accident during a game while he was with the Pats (after he was drafted by the Canucks). His wrist was cut by a skate that caused major damage & pretty much destroyed any chance of a solid NHL career (even before he would turn professional). Curse of the Canucks. -

They were dazzled by his skating, size & strength. Problem was, as I said already, he had pretty much zero offensive ability. Still, that kind of player generally doesn't get paid much & again, having such a player in our top six to act as "sheriff" wouldn't be such a bad thing. Could've used him in 2011. -

His career was severely impacted by a major car accident which really eff'd him up. While he was never going to be a star player, it *IS* blatantly unfair to judge him considering that. He's actually the type of forward that would've looked great on EP's wing. Had pretty much ZERO offensive skills but he could skate very well AND more importantly, could fight. -
[Proposal] tell me what you think DET/VAN
NewbieCanuckFan replied to Rush17's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Dead Wings have two first round picks, three 2nd round picks and two 3rd round picks in the next draft. Doubt they'd really feel any need to add more at the cost of assets they already have & not likely want to move. -
I always thought of Schmidt as a sort of Salo type. Good all round guy (offense/defense). Like a swiss army knife of players.
-
Chuck Norris doesn't sweat though! It's just fluid that is afraid of getting a roundhouse kick that runs away from his body thru his pores!
-
If you don't notice a defenseman, that's a good thing most of the time.
-
Meyers gets alot more offensive zone starts (and Schmidt gets more defensive starts). Easier to "look" better imho. We still need both though.
