  1. Clark doesn't have a flux capacitor & DeLorean car. He can't reverse the effects of age. There's only so much a goalie coach can do to a 30+ year old goalie. Markstrom says what? He was 23 years old at the time we acquired him. HUGE difference in terms of what good coaching can do. Brendan Gaunce working under Trotz isn't going to make that former Canuck into a NHLer. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
  2. heh, like some Vancouver team got kind of close last year (though we weren't exactly a defense first team, just a team with not just one goalie but two hot goalies).
  3. Thx. I stand corrected. (heh, won't be the last time that'll happen here.)
  4. Weren't no AC in my high school decades later. To my knowledge, still isn't.
  5. I think he was primarily thinking of security (wanting a deal longer than one year & the Bolts were offering that). Getting a chance at the Cups were just 'gravy'.
  6. Good luck getting a legit #1D though. Aren't 30 of them in the entire league & the ones that have them will only deal them by being paid a king's ransom.
  7. Sure ideally you want both size & ability but at this point, we need guys that actually can defend well (as we can't expect Demko to bail us out every game). Lack of strong defensive players (forwards) makes this even more important imho.
  8. Holtby at this stage of his career, isn't even a passable backup goalie let alone starting goalie.
  9. To be fair, when you inherit (Benning was hired I think a week after Chara was acquired by the Bruins) a franchise D like Chara & goalie like Thomas, ones job is WAY easier. Frankly, I could care less if the D were all midgets or smallish guys so as long as they could actually play *defense*. Ie., nobody would consider Tanev a monster. Still think Schmidt is decent defensively but he gets most of the tough defensive starts because there's nobody else in the lineup to take those minutes. That and it was a new team/system for him this past season.
  10. Schenn was actually better (my view anyways) than expected. Problem was not re-signing him (though I could understand Benning's reluctance to give multi-year deals to depth defensemen). Schenn seemed to have decent chemistry with Hughes (didn't hurt the former could always help out in the physical department if an opposing player took liberties on the smaller guy).
  11. But will Benning run out of time getting a deal done?
  12. Bear in mind though, the playoff team Canes are very deep on the blueline. Granted, it doesn't mean Gardiner is a good player (he clearly isn't); only that it would actually mean alot more of a defenseman couldn't crack the Oilers blueline.
  13. I'd normally say, "eff them if they want to take that chance" but they could just as likely infect other people (or even have a slight chance of infecting those that are vaccinated).
  14. Good luck with that. Natural right side defenseman (good or bad) are fairly rare. One who is a top 4 one, is rarer still. I doubt 9th overall would be enough to get that kind of guy (unless said player is close to 30 years old or older).
  15. I wouldn't trade our owner for their's, even if you threw in the 1st overall pick.
  16. Seems to me they're working on his defensive game so when he eventually makes it up to the parent club, he'll be more of a finished product. Imagine that, a defenseman who actually can defend reasonably well?
  17. Willie Desjardins Main reason why Travis Green wasn’t fired as Benning was afraid the Kraken would name him as their head coach.
  18. You take the good with the bad. Canucks owner spends at least money. Worst is when you have a 'meddling' owner that isn't willing to put up his own money to try & make the club better. See the Vancouver Whitecaps as an example.
  19. I search thru his garbage bins at least once a week. Send me a 'PM' for all the inside info. I got!
  20. Who said Canucks can't draft? https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=2973 11th round, 214th overall 900+ NHL games, 644 points.
  21. Again, I said I didn't follow that team that closely. Just goes to show one can't merely look at the stats by themselves to draw conclusions. Sometimes how a player fits a given team is more important (where Garrison played in the top 4 for a season or two on a playoff team like the Bolts after we traded him there).
  22. To bad both of them didn't have dual roles back in their playing days here...else: To the Loui E signing, Hank: I didn't sign the contract so goodbye Loui! Loui E: But what is this signature here? Hank: That's my brother's signature. Only I have authority to sign contracts. Loui E: wtf????
