2017-18 season for Vegas: Luca Sbisa...30 games 19 minutes/31 seconds (all the games he played for Vegas Jason Garrison....8 games 19 minutes/4 seconds (all the games he played for Vegas) Looks like Theodore missed a big chunk of games where Sbisa & whoever they could fill in that spot temporarily (like bad groin Garrison) occured. But to be honest, I'm assuming this as I didn't follow that team THAT closely. Schmidt...76 games 22 minutes/14 seconds Engelland....79 games 20 minutes/17 seconds McNabb....76 games 20 minutes/9 seconds Theodore.....60 games 20 minutes/21 seconds Miller......82 games 19 minutes/21 seconds

[Discussion] A player Hughes could emulate
NewbieCanuckFan replied to Arrow 1983's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Rarely would I ever say about a NHL player but I that wished Kesler actually work LESS hard during the season. Guy never knew the word "pace himself". Seriously, you often need that extra gear in the post-season. But yeah, you need the unheralded guys that would do all the dirty work as well as the "stars". That's why it was a pleasure to see Hogs work his ass off every shift. -
[Discussion] A player Hughes could emulate

People forget just how good defensively Burrows was in his prime. It wasn't just Kesler, as good defensively that guy was. That is what we seriously lack up front today. You can't expect your goalie to bail you out every game. Sometimes even the opposition has a great goalie. He didn't need power play time to get 30+ goals. In fact most or all of it was at even strength. -
Been seven years and they still haven’t found that defensive guy yet. Which is odd since offensive D men, which we have plenty of, you’d think would be harder to get.
-
Even Loui doesn’t want Loui.
-
I don't see that happening unless we acquire a decently defensively responsible partner for him to help mentor him (same issue applies to Hughes). There's a reason why Schmidt had to play so many tough defensive minutes (there wasn't anybody else on the roster & guys like Edler are unfortunately past their prime & are better placed in smaller roles).
-
He had COVID for the entire season? Maybe the coaching staff felt he wasn't ready. I don't know. I do know it stretches believability that same player will be ready in a significant role (top 4) next season barely getting his feet wet at the NHL level.
-
I was told on this board that the principal reason was that it was a cap issue & assumed it was true.
-
You have to learn to swim first before throwing OJ in the deep end of the pool. Team couldn't be bothered to free up a few hundred K in cap space to let him play more than 20 something games this past season. You ruin players like that imho.
-
Yeah I can see gifting a guy top 4 minutes with 20 something NHL games under his belt will turn out well. And this is coming from a guy that wanted OJ to be seeing more games this past COVID season.

So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?
NewbieCanuckFan replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
Ron Delorme saw him having a great practice and was won over by him. -
Hughes hasn't even figured out how to play defense on his natural side all that well yet. Until we can get a reliable partner for him (why couldn't Gillis have left Benning even just one such defenseman like say a Tanev type) let him develop on his natural side imho.

[Proposal] Holtby (Van) - Kerfoot (Tor)

But why would they make a move like that though if their goalie situation remains the same? Especially since Turris' cap hit is less than Holtby's. -

Think the Coilers still have a 4+ million cap hit goalie on their books for next season. Why would they want over 8 million in mediocre goalies on their roster? As badly constructed they are for the postseason, you aren’t going to be making the playoffs with Red Light Holtby and Kiskinen as your tandem imho. -
Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
NewbieCanuckFan replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
Well that was Kesler that didn’t have to put up with a normal bridge deal after his ELC (Flyers offer sheet). Easier for him to ask others to take less when he never had to. Plus he always had a big mouth. Granted, he tended to always outperform the contracts he signed p. -

Some guys took longer deals and gave up lower average salaries. It was a compromise rather than a giving up salary for the betterment of the team. I have yet to see too many veteran deals with this management where they gave out a long term deal where the average cap hit was less than market value .
