  1. Those guys likely will take a few years to “percolate” in the minors.
  2. It’s after that job is complete (restocking cupboards) that I worry about (as supporting cast has been a mixed bag at best)
  3. Well that part of the plan didn't work out well. It stunk (piled on losses after that first season. Worse records in years 2 to 4 than even under coach Tortorella).
  4. In defense of Jim Benning..actually that is about the only weak point. Blueline is still a mess. Relying still way too much on the supreme goaltending (from a guy that Benning drafted in a later round!) to bail them out.
  5. They want to compete probably sooner rather than later. 6 million in a flat cap world could buy you one impact player on your roster. Sure, LE's salary is much less than his actual cap hit, but Seattle's owner's have deep pockets. They aren't like the Sens owner. Better to just 'grin & bear it' with LE's contract. Team's window isn't short.
  6. Probably on guys he didn't know or didn't have alot of knowledge in. But for the top picks (1st rounders), I'm pretty sure (my gut feeling, not saying it as a fact) that Benning went with his own instincts/feelings. OT: Just noticed your username. I remember when the Canucks drafted him, I thought the Canucks got one real tough hombre. The name, playing in the WHL (tons of PIMs lol). Team Captain of the Pats. While he wasn't really a great fighter, he never failed to 'answer the bell' when called upon. Didn't duck anyone (even if it meant being overmatched in a fight). Never an allstar but had a pretty lengthy respectible NHL career. You still need these guys of players in your lineup (as well as the "stars").
  7. And Seattle does this because? (2nd round pick ain't nearly enough to take of that awful contract).
  8. That is hardly fair to Travis Green. Tryamkin took his ball & went home when Desjardins was the head coach.
  9. Maybe. Could be the higher expectations of being a 1st round pick as well. In any case, shows the dangers on relying too much on a short tournament. Laffs dealt a goalie prospect in future Vezina trophy winner Rask because at least in part the strong Juniors Tournament Pogge had.
  10. Yeah I saw the fallout when Booby Clarke gave a nuisance offer sheet to Kesler.
  11. lol. How about the twitter posts by Dotards minions saying he'll be reinstated as the Prez in August? Grifters gotta grift.
  12. That two-timing Melmacian! He told me I was the only cat he knew.
  13. Goaltending, while it didn't help, wasn't the Laffs problem this year though. It was their "star players' (well Wee Willy DID kind of show up) not playing even remotely close to their contract values.
  14. Chris Tanev was but 24 years old when Benning came aboard. I miss the days of having such quality defenseman (defensively) prospect. And Gillis didn't inherit that guy from Nonis/Burke.
  15. Laffs are on their third General Manager since Jim Benning was hired. Changing GM's that frequently isn't likely a good thing.
  16. Gillis drafting was horrible anyhow. Though crying over a 3rd & 4th round pick is a bit much imho.
  17. At least he gets invited to parties. I don't. . . . . . .
  18. I can't remember just how he got to be the GM of a NBA team.
  19. I liked Brian Burke's comments about Weisbrod "I don't even know what he did" (or something to that effect)
  20. The problem isn't who the GM is but who he's surrounded himself with. You need proper supporting staff. Not freaking Weisbrod. Benning can't be everywhere/do everything. Nobody can. Brian Burke had Dave Nonis. Pat Quinn had Brian Burke.
