  2. I didn't like the signing at first but my viewpoint changed completely when he stuck up for Stecher being manhandled in that Laffs game by Martin. A goalie. And an old goalie did that. You can't buy that kind of veteran leadership. Not sure Benning was thinking going hard after Lucic back then given the extremely bad history between those two players.
  3. Didn't he play in all Sens games in our last series with them?
  4. Bryon Ritchie led his team MODO in scoring in the SEL not long after leaving us.
  5. You knew it was going to be bad at some point (as do pretty much all these long-term contract eventually become). But during his first game as a Canuck?
  6. And people got on Gillis' case for not drafting Russians. And this was during the time, the KHL could pay wages competitive with the NHL (when oil prices were sky high). It's a real risk a player would rather play at home (and if I were them, I'd be inclined to feel the same way).
  7. I still feel he was just using us as leverage to get a better deal where he didn't want to leave (additional perks in the form of 'under the table' money not covered by their "cap").
  8. Detroit has a ton of extra picks in the upcoming draft(s). Now obviously they could always all bust but you’d think a guy with the drafting skills like Benning would’ve accumulated multiple picks as well especially since we were a rebuilding team. He did WAY back in 2014 but that was only as a result of Kesler wanting out. Now there’s more than me way to rebuild but it seems to me you should play to your strengths..which clearly is drafting.
  9. Beagle turns 36 years old in October. With his injury status, he’s running on gas fumes at best. Tank is probably empty. Happens to all athletes at some point. Father Time eventually wins the battle.
  10. Both are fringe players. Hawks win trade by virtue of freeing up a contract slot as Highmore is signed until after next season. He’s a 25 years old forward winger so his upside is very limited at this point. If Gaudette doesn’t work out for them, they could just cast him adrift in this off-season by not offering him a contract and offer a contract to another prospect.
  11. I'm guessing there's a greater chance the Hawks will protect Gaudette in the expansion draft (notice I said *chance*). I'd say there's a zero chance the Canucks will protect Highmore.
  12. Could use a strong defensive center. Or strong defensive wingers. Take some of the pressure off the D (where we also could use some strong defensive D men) which in turn, takes the some pressure off of Demko.
  13. At least Jared McCann didn't get any points tonight for the Pens despite seeing some power play time!
  14. Depends on if they could've kept Chubarov. A bloody shame as it seemed Chubie was coming into his own as a very solid two-way center.
  15. Kesler was fairly close to being "NHL ready" straight after the draft. Only spent a full season in the AHL because of the lockout, else he probably would stuck the whole season in 2004/05.
  16. Just for something completely random on a depressing night (nothing wrong with a little levity).
  17. Gustav Forsling with two assists for the Panthers so far as well.
