  1. Mr healthy scratch still has one more point as a Black Hawk than Highmore has as a Canuck.
  2. Only one year deal as well. Limited the downside risk if he didn’t work out. Best kind of deal to sign.
  3. His attitude didn’t help either. Got the Vrbata blues when taken off easy points duty.
  4. You aren’t sheltered if you’re asked to play the role of a defensive center (which he sucked at). Look at Horvat’s minus the season he was the shutdown C in 2015-16. -30 just for that season alone.
  5. Cody’s career ended prematurely because of a serious injury in his defense.
  6. When you have 4 million cap hit Sutter and 3 million cap hit Beagle taking up the 3C & 4C spots &. 6 million cap hit LE 4th line winger....you have to cut corners elsewhere.
  7. Yeah he’s no big loss (Gaudette) but like you I think Highmore is a downgrade. Gaudette just put up 33 points last season which more than TRIPLES the CAREER totals of older player Highmore. Nothing to get worked up over but nothing to be proud about either.
  8. Mind you, the guy that beat him out for that trophy is in the HHOF and did win a Cup. Still, can't help but think had the Canucks had any decent number of centers, Trev would've piled up the points in his natural position (wing). It's a VERY TOUGH position to switch at the NHL level (going from winger to center).
  9. .500 record doesn't mean much in the day of the shootout. Only 7 teams out of 31 didn't have a .500 record last season. Torts had a better than .500 record in his disaster year as head coach of the Canucks.
  10. He's better as a winger. Think of him as another Gaudette, only with more offensive talent. A center when you have really no other option (eg., injuries).
  11. In a defensive battle, I like our chances in any goaltending duel vs ANY team. Granted, can’t expect Demko to stop all the shots, hence having our blueline play well (with Edler being in the lineup for the reasons you just gave) means he doesn’t face as many grade A chances.
  12. Still better overall (offense and defense as a whole) than anybody we got not named Schmidt.
  13. Not sure a different assistant coach will change that much. Special teams for sure there would be improvement (I mean, how could it get worse?). But the blueline is, what it is. Minus Edler makes it even less impressive.
  14. "You're hired to be fired" is the unfortunate cliche that is an accurate description of the job. But you want to know about how easy it is to be fired? Ask Al McNeill. Only won the Stanley Cup as a rookie NHL head coach. Got fired shortly afterwards in the off-season because that wasn't good enough.
  15. I'm a figment of my own imagination . . . . . and I got no imagination.
