  1. We just dealt a center without getting one in return (Highmore, to my knowledge has extremely limited experience at that position at the NHL level); still have to ice a roster for the remainder of this season (assuming there is one/gets actually completed). I don't see us moving Sutter as a result given our depth done the middle now.
  2. Meh. Based on what? Didn’t he have a more important role than simply a winger for us in the postseason (not that he was any good at it though lol,,,). Did we not advance beyond the 1st round? In any event it might be a while before Chicago gets in playoffs again.
  3. Think he might stick as a winger in the NHL (doesn’t appear to have what it takes to be a center, at least a defensive one). Could do a lot worse than him as an offensive winger imho.
  4. Frank Corrado looked decent in a short stint in the postseason for us as well. Danger of relying on a short sample size.
  5. In the greater scheme of things, it's just a minor transaction imho. While I'm clearly no fan of the trade, calls questioning Benning's ability just on this seems 'way over the top'.
  6. Shinkaruk never even put up 33 points in the NHL in his entire NHL career let alone in one season. I don't see the comparison.
  7. 33 points in 59 points as a 22 year old in the NHL tells me the potential is still there. Yes, I don't think he's cut out to be a defensive center but seems to me that was never what he was drafted for (even in the 5th round)
  8. I doubt a coach that leans heavily on vets is going to give Lind that kind of leash (not that Gaudette was a vet but at least he's gotten SOME NHL experience).
  9. I'm thinking Travis Green suiting up as a center might not be much of a difference than Highmore.
  10. Check out the history regarding the Peter Zezel trade involving Burke.
  11. Habs used a similiar sneaky to move up in the draft so they could select Guy Lafleur. Way back when the legendary Guy Lafleur was eligible to be drafted, the Habs held a high pick (no lottery back then) but a team was presently worse in the standings (so they'd likely pick Lafleur instead of the Habs). It was the LA Kings. So the Habs GM traded a couple decent complementary players to the Kings in a bargain trade. Kings ended up winning a bunch of games (and thus moved up in the standings & have their 1st round selection spot fall behind the Habs).
  12. Generally the Canucks have always missed out on prospects in our backyard (problem not just limited to the time of Gillis, as this issue has gone on for literally multiple decades). Even a guy like Grabner (one time WHL prospect) seems to have that same issue you mentioned (all the talent but for whatever the reason, seemingly motivational issues causing him to have inconsistancy [witness all the NHL teams he's been on]).
  13. Still Nedved did manage to get 99 points in a season for the Pens so it's not like he was bust (just under 1000 NHL games & 700+ points for his NHL career). He was the "safer" pick than Jagr as Nedved put up tons of points in a tough WHL league before being drafted. Plus cold war was still on I think (so you never knew when or if Jagr would come over). I could understand the logic/reasoning why the Canucks chose Nedved over Jagr back then.
  14. Imagine if the Aquilini's owned the Whitecaps. They wouldn't be 'selling' players for transfer fees & pocketing a good chunk of the money themselves. People can get on the Aquilini's case all they want but you can never accuse them of not putting money back into the team (and then some).
  15. I"m probably in the minority but MLB has been dead to me when the Expos owner pulled a Michael Heisley (though I was happy for the Blue Jays win). In a similair vein, same with the Raptors (eg., the whole Grizzlies fiasco).
  16. Yup. Short sighted thinking. Cheap out now only ends up costing you more in the end.
  17. I’m only speculating but I’d guess the root of the problem is a combination of lousy pay (tend to only get the awful candidates) and even worse training by their so-called superiors.
