  1. Flyers got the Finals once with all LD defensemen (granted one of those LD was Chris Pronger ). It's something coaches prefer but I don't they'll put in an inferior D just because he happens to play that side. And I think they'll spread the minutes around a bit (didn't mean to imply Forsling would suddenly be playing close to 30 minutes a game). Myers isn't exactly Kevin Bieksa in his prime in any event.
  2. I honestly think they'll give additional minutes/responsibilities to Forsling first & see how he handles it; particularly before taking on a contract the size of Myers (pocket change to our owner but not so much to another owner).
  3. They kept Forsling because he was playing like a top 4 D should. Man what a bad trade that was (Clendening for Forsling).
  4. I don't have a problem with the length. It's just that we didn't get any real kind of cap savings by handing out that long a term. Better to have offered him a short-term deal with a far bigger cap hit. If he wouldn't go for that, move on to the next guy.
  5. hmmm....you might be right. Still it makes it so frustrating. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing Benning throw some of the team's financial muscle (Aquilini for whatever faults he might have, is always willing to spend money on the team) in maybe poaching some of the other NHL team's scouts.
  6. Disagree. No cap on how much you can spend on scouting. Increase in scouting in one area doesn’t mean it comes at the expense of another area.
  7. our local amateur scouting has always been weak going back decades. Hasn’t changed that much even under Benning (outside Western Canada, plenty of home runs. Inside our background, one ground rule single Virtanen & he was a sixth overall pick).
  8. I prefer to take my chances with Benning using that pick to draft a prospect vs keeping up another reclamation project. Now if we had an extra pick I would feel different.
  9. Looks like Stecher got a longer look by the Dead Wings as for a while they were going with a 7 defenseman/11 forward roster. But that's just based on a quick look by me (as I don't follow that team).
  10. Better to have two undersized guys on the blueline that can play (which Stecher has shown he can handle top 4 minutes at least on a temporary basis in the past for us when he was paired up with Hutton) vs two big slugs who can’t. Sure you take size *IF* said players have the same skill.
  11. Canucks have had strong goalie coaching generally since the Nonis days. About the one true positive constant. You not only need good drafting with respect to goalies but proper development as well.
  12. Can't expect your goalies to score goals and or stop all the shots. Plus you also want a backup goalie that doesn't suck. A .500 record doesn't mean much in the time of the loser point. Having no healthy 3C magnifies the problem of the blue line.
  13. All it showed was elite goaltending can bail you out for a round or two in the postseason. Problem is, as you go deeper in the playoffs, you'll run into other teams with good goaltending AND a blue line that can defend.
  14. Don't be surprised if the solution requires thinking "outside the box". Case in point: http://www.mjzanon.com/brazilian-ip-news/donald-duck-invents-a-method-to-raise-sunken-ships/
