  1. We had "elite" levels of goaltending (at least my opinion) from both Marky & Demko those series. Vegas lacked the ability to finish off an opponent (which caught up with them in the Finals that season). Almost bit Vegas in the ass against us. edit: I probably underrated JT Miller's performance that post-season upon recollection.
  2. Sounds like everyone here would buy him a drink (doing the Flames franchise dirty).
  3. Getting a free subway sandwich doesn't seem like a reward. More like a punishment.
  4. Gino literally bled for the organization (in more ways than one it seems). I can't think of a better player to be put in the ring of honor before Gino. His number should up there in the rafters.
  5. Actually COVID bought Jim Benning time. Don't forget the team was in a downward spiral prior to the season being cancelled early (it wasn't unlike how Torts had the Canucks actually in a playoff spot until February before the wheels fell off). That & riding hot goaltending meant there wasn't like a 5 seasons of 'no playoffs' because of the 'play-in round' where due to in no small part to hot goaltending we advanced a few rounds.
  6. Yup, the "English translated version" Star Blazers was my introduction to 'anime'. "Cutting edge' in my eyes in that unlike say, the GI Joe cartoon, people actually "died" in the events of the "cartoon". I'm sure there were much earlier examples of this in Japanese animation but as I said, it was my introduction to that.
  7. More important, as much as I puke in mouth for giving praise to the punk Duncan Keith, drafting that **** in the 2nd round was a huge win. Bigger than anything JB has done. And it was followed up the next season by the 2nd half of the great shutdown pairing, Brent Seabrook (1st round but only 14th overall). Byfuglien was drafted that year (in the 8th friggin round out of the WHL - I guess Ron Delorme was scouting in Sweden again at the time). Which goes to your point of, it all fine and dandy to draft two possible HHOFers but you have to surround those players with a supporting cast. Something JB was unable to do in 7 years (either by draft or trade).
  8. It would be like that so-called "boxing match" Trudeau Junior had. He actually took it serious & "trained" somewhat. The other guy didn't. The results were predictable (especially when you considered the age difference).
  9. edit: damn..."Heretic" beat me to it!
  10. Going off topic...Edler was a weird one. His game seemed better suited for the "North American style" or NHL sized rinks rather than "International hockey on international sized rinks". It's no surprise he was able to develop from playing in a beer league in Sweden to the NHL in a matter of a few years. Might be just me but I didn't think he looked as good on those Olympic sized rinks. A guy like Phil Esposito didn't have that problem with different sized rinks as his "game" was often to just park himself in front of the net or the "slot" (and most people couldn't move his carcass out of there ).
  11. Maybe on a one year minimum wage deal (eg., less than a million). He turns 32 years old in less than 4 weeks. That's older than any defensemen Jim Benning inherited that wasn't named Bieksa when he first became GM of the Canucks.
  12. Avs didn't win a cup by making stupid moves. That's a Benning type of move.
  13. Benning *did* end up giving Edler a NMC on his contract when the Gillis created contract expired though. Guy was the king of handing out NTC/NMC like candy.
  14. That wasn't even that moron's worst mistake. Might be 3rd on the list.
  15. How about the pole from a Macedonian phalanx?
  16. How about a billionaire father....looks at Rogers Arena.
  17. I bought those X-ray see thru glasses because I wanted to see....errr
  18. Secret video of OceanGate's newest addition to their fleet (please do not share this exclusive video):
  19. Never let it be said I'm always right. But seriously, I can't help but thing that maybe it's that what keeping Fleury currently out because as you said, his NHL numbers speak for themselves.
