  1. I read I think Curt Fraser had some martial arts training during his playing days. Probably needed it as his team often faced the Punch McLean New West Bruins at Queens Park Arena before entering the NHL. Would explain his legit knockout ability (can't be just lucky punches) I wonder if Fraser & Smyl ever faced off against each other?
  2. It's the Hawks. The league will let them find a "loophole". Much like how New Jersey's penalty on their cap circumventing contract was lessened (no longer a 1st round pick). But the Canucks? **** them. Canucks will keep on paying more than their fair share in the revenue sharing (to support continual money losing franchises) and can't do anything about it. As for Seabrook. At his peak, one of THE premier shutdown D. Probably doesn't get enough credit for that.
  3. He'll have to up his level of play for that to happen. Isn't that hard to get a backup goalie for a fraction of his cost (his salary is north of $5 million as well). Though maybe time with Ian Clark may make that happen. I *think* Clark was able to instruct Luongo to make some adjustments to his game to make him a more effective goalie. But I'm just going by memory.
  4. Playing in a lower tier league. Top 4 minutes in the NHL is a far different level of competition imho. And I doubt he's coming over for something cheap. He likes playing at home to my knowledge.
  5. Replacing him won't be cheap & it certainly won't come from our prospects (not for a year or two at least in any event).
  6. You're confusing Button for NewbieCanuckFan. Can you get an infraction for attacking oneself?
  7. How much heart do you want Hogs to have? Guy busts his ass pretty much every shift like Motte.
  8. I think we only ever gave up the lead once in the 2011 Finals (and we still ended winning that game in OT). Problem was not having enough healthy defensemen. I could be wrong but ironically I think Salo of all people was more or less the only fully healthy D. Well maybe Ballard but he was awful lol.
  9. I'm still on the fence on whether Monsanto is "evil". Haven't read up enough on it to form an opinion (though what I've heard isn't giving me much comfort).
  10. Or a discarded ex-Leaf goalie getting the last laugh? I *think* the Leafs stormed out to a big lead in the game, where Raycroft replaced Luongo. Canucks stormed back & won the game? Or am I remembering it wrong?
  11. How about an old man Sundin sticking a fork into his old team like: (RIP Demitra..)
  12. I think Benning is noticeably weak in certain areas (eg., hiring coaches, SOME professional scouting [eg., Loui Eriksson, Gudbranson, Myers, etc.]. Not that those were necessarily "bad players", only a bad fit where this organization was. An old experienced NHL executive I think would be invaluable. Right now, I think Benning is surrounded by "yes men" and or individuals like Weisbrod.
  13. I should make it clear that I don't want Benning fired. Only that there are real problems that need to be addressed. First, a REAL President should be hired. Benning has enough on his plate to handle. I don't trust Weisbrod to make even a cup of coffee.
  14. He's more of an all around defenseman I think. Hopefully he gets the proper development vs sitting on the bench like OJ is for the Canucks.
  15. Exactly. Poor coaching choices and/or a revolving door has a direct impact of player development.
  16. None of them can defend at a high level on the blueline which is this team's biggest problem. But I guess that is Gillis' fault as well.
  17. Look at the Islanders as an example of DECADES of mismanagement. Look at them now after less than seven years. Still blaming Gillis after seven years imho is weak. Just my opinion.
  18. Two AHL coaches hired by Benning did as much damage imho. Wasting ELC years of EP and Hughes.
  19. I liked & still like the Schmidt acquisition. He's new to the team that isn't playing well. He will get better. Solid two way defenseman. I think on the calibre of Salo. Problem is, we lack a solid defensive D men to go with Hughes. Edler is really getting up there in age.
  20. Not that I want to give the impression I want Gillis back. I don't. He was given more than enough chance. My only point is that it's been SEVEN years since Gillis was fired. Enough putting the current mess on him. Just my opinion (not stating it as a fact)
  21. Irrelevant if you can find interacted amateurs like Tanev. Seven years and Henning hadn't been able to replace his defensive skill on the blue line. Problem with Gillis is that Tanev was the only one he could find but that's still one more than Benning.
  22. As I mentioned before (more than once probably lol), it's not enough to win over in Montreal. Al MacNeill was an anglo rookie head coach for the Habs & won the Cup the first year he was behind the bench in that capacity. Was demoted/fired the following off-season. Replaced by the legendary, but more important, fluently bilingual, Scotty Bowman.
  23. I don’t think so. At least not for the Habs job. He’s not from the ‘right province’. Some, like Bob Gainey was an exception to that given his Cup winning history with the club as an elite defensive winger (and of course one time Captain of the Habs). You think the media are tough here? Nothing like how tough it is over in Quebec.
