I read I think Curt Fraser had some martial arts training during his playing days. Probably needed it as his team often faced the Punch McLean New West Bruins at Queens Park Arena before entering the NHL. Would explain his legit knockout ability (can't be just lucky punches) I wonder if Fraser & Smyl ever faced off against each other?

Brent Seabrook announces retirement after 15 seasons
NewbieCanuckFan replied to CBH1926's topic in General Hockey Discussion
It's the Hawks. The league will let them find a "loophole". Much like how New Jersey's penalty on their cap circumventing contract was lessened (no longer a 1st round pick). But the Canucks? **** them. Canucks will keep on paying more than their fair share in the revenue sharing (to support continual money losing franchises) and can't do anything about it. As for Seabrook. At his peak, one of THE premier shutdown D. Probably doesn't get enough credit for that. -
He'll have to up his level of play for that to happen. Isn't that hard to get a backup goalie for a fraction of his cost (his salary is north of $5 million as well). Though maybe time with Ian Clark may make that happen. I *think* Clark was able to instruct Luongo to make some adjustments to his game to make him a more effective goalie. But I'm just going by memory.

I think we only ever gave up the lead once in the 2011 Finals (and we still ended winning that game in OT). Problem was not having enough healthy defensemen. I could be wrong but ironically I think Salo of all people was more or less the only fully healthy D. Well maybe Ballard but he was awful lol.

I'm still on the fence on whether Monsanto is "evil". Haven't read up enough on it to form an opinion (though what I've heard isn't giving me much comfort).

I think Benning is noticeably weak in certain areas (eg., hiring coaches, SOME professional scouting [eg., Loui Eriksson, Gudbranson, Myers, etc.]. Not that those were necessarily "bad players", only a bad fit where this organization was. An old experienced NHL executive I think would be invaluable. Right now, I think Benning is surrounded by "yes men" and or individuals like Weisbrod.

As I mentioned before (more than once probably lol), it's not enough to win over in Montreal. Al MacNeill was an anglo rookie head coach for the Habs & won the Cup the first year he was behind the bench in that capacity. Was demoted/fired the following off-season. Replaced by the legendary, but more important, fluently bilingual, Scotty Bowman.

I don’t think so. At least not for the Habs job. He’s not from the ‘right province’. Some, like Bob Gainey was an exception to that given his Cup winning history with the club as an elite defensive winger (and of course one time Captain of the Habs). You think the media are tough here? Nothing like how tough it is over in Quebec.
