[Discussion] Realistic Value of Quinn Hughes
NewbieCanuckFan replied to Warhippy's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Dale Tallon could've been that player but they screwed around with his development (playing on a real expansion club didn't help either) by shifting him to center & back again to D (and so on & so on). For being the consolation prize in that draft (missing legit HHOFer Gilbert Perreault), he had that kind of talent. -
Been *OVER* twenty years since the Panthers have made the post-season two years in a row (something which they're currently well on their way of doing with their current record of tied for 2nd overall in the league standings). And again, this is only his 2nd season behind the bench. Granted, it's early but it seems like he's been able to take that team to the next level (regardless of what he might or might not have inherited). We, on the other hand, seem to be going in circles (I think we're better than our record indicates - at least on paper imho).

Don't forget another *key* difference between that Hawks team and these Canucks. The head coach. I mean, look at the Panthers, who while they were a 1st round exit, still managed to make the post-season the first season under coach Q (after missing the playoffs for a number of years). Look at their record THIS season. Coach Q >>> Travis Green The Duke of Wellington: "I used to say of him (Napoleon) that his presence on the field made the difference of 40,000 men

[Proposal] Retool of the bottom 6
NewbieCanuckFan replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
What value could Rousel have the way he's playing? Might as well just keep him vs getting an extremely late round pick + retaining a chunk of his salary. Plus he has a modified NTC (and people complained about Gillis handing out too many NTCs). -
Texas.

Jim Rutherford looking to be a GM again
NewbieCanuckFan replied to GetFocht's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Bingo. Could he have done better than Gillis in 2008? Probably. But Rutherford isn’t coming into remotely the same situation here now if he became GM of the Canucks in 2021. -
Jim Rutherford looking to be a GM again

Meh, traded vs signed as a free agent. Signing Loui E as a free agent might make it less worse than trading for him but it doesn’t not make it an awful mistake. As for trading Pearson. Does it matter he wanted out that you trade him for a 4 million dollar #6 defenseman? Pearson is /was still a useful player. Sure inheriting two generational players, legit #1 D and a stud goalie doesn’t guarantee success. But it sure makes the job easier. We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Peace. -

He traded for Jack Johnson and Gudbranson. Inherited Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, and Letang. Yeah, I’ll give him credit for his work on the Canes but that was a while ago. -
Considering the way the team is playing, it's actually a good idea the arena is empty.
