  1. Just horrible conditioning (not helped by no bench) plus already mentioned injuries. Wasn't in a good situation (still put up respectable numbers - though that could prove that SOMEBODY has to score points even on the worst of teams).
  2. He actually wasn't that bad a player before injuries did him in. It was his monster contract + league mandated lower cap they (and Toronto) had to work with that did them in (caused them to have 'ham & eggers' on the bench - forcing the coach to ride the 'starting five' like a rented mule).
  3. Outside of Motte (who is like the energizer bunny), who hasn't Hogs outworked?
  4. Reason why they hate "relocation" vs an actual "expansion club". More money for each of the owner's pockets (expansion fees).
  5. He hasn't played much so expect his conditioning to be more of an issue than anything.
  6. Do imaginary girlfriends count? How about inflatable ones? Just asking for a friend.
  7. Our blue line isn't strong enough for us to get into the playoffs I'm afraid baring goaltending heroics. Benning's biggest failure to date.
  8. Being the GM of the Habs has an added obstacle....having to strongly consider hiring a French Canadian first even if a more qualified candidate is available. Look no further than the head coaching history of Al McNeal. Won the Stanley Cup as head coach of the Habs as rookie head coach but was promptly demoted/fired in the off-season. Winning isn't enough in that city.
  9. Yeah I know people are down on Gaudette but I still have some hope for him (I think he's just better suited in an offensive role as a winger). We got him via an extra 5th round pick we got from dumping an depth player, so I guess any pick is like a free lottery ticket. Free is free!
  10. Especially during this pandemic. I think a 3rd round pick might be a bit optimistic for him though. We couldn’t even get a 3rd for Hamhuis who had far more gas left in the tank than him.
  11. Staal was still being used as a #4/#5 the last few years & this season so far (granted on 'meh' teams)...but still that's far more significant role than a 4th line winger. I'm not sure Eriksson's actual much lower cash will bridge that gap.
  12. Well he is a legit NHL 4th line winger. Just something you only pay the NHL minimum wage for (and ain't even referring to the term of his contract).
  13. The New West Bruins at their peak in the Punch McLean years were a team to be feared. You didn’t play at Queen’s Park Arena before making sure you had adequate medical coverage.
  14. Actually, it was I that should've looked at it more closely. We're both kind of in the wrong. It was like the end of Rocky III (where it ends before you know who won their little sparring match): Peace brother.
  15. No cap then and Burke was instructed by ownership to cut salaries. Far different environment that Burke had to operate under.
  16. C+ against a non-contending like the Oilers is hardly encouraging particularly when we lost.
  17. Stecher wasn’t a healthy scratch to my knowledge. Dealing with an injury.
  18. Benning has had seven years to find that top defensive defenseman. Schmidt is a solid two-way defenseman but one guy ain’t remotely good enough after that period of time.
  19. Ottawa has some good young talent but it’s their owner (not spending money) that’ll hold them back & has held them back. That isn’t an issue here.
  20. Will get interesting at season ticket renewal time next offseason if this continues. That's when... (hard to believe Glenn Frey passed away like four or five years ago..)
