  1. Unless he improves over the rest of this season I fail to see why Seattle would select him. Having a save percentage of less than 0.900 is pretty mediocre. Maybe Ian Clark (when the team actually has the practice time) can work his 'magic' on him (not really time for him to work with him much during this pandemic). Not sure what happened to his game as I don't follow the Capitals....but wasn't he playing at the level of Vezina like a bunch of years ago?
  2. For trivia sake...ever wonder why we didn't have a 3rd round pick (and a chance to draft Henrique in 2008)? Not saying we would've drafted him as our Ontario scouts were meh at best at the time....just that we didn't even have the pick. Answer: Randy Carlyle was under contract as head coach of our AHL affiliate Manitoba Moose. The Ducks later signed him to be their NHL head coach. As compensation, the Ducks gave us a 3rd round pick in 2006 and a 2nd round pick in 2007. As part of that 'compensation agreement', we sent the Ducks our 3rd round pick in 2008. As per usual, those guys we drafted with those picks were busts though that drafted 3rd rounder in 2006 was used as part of the package to get Ehrhoff.
  3. At no point would anybody offer a 2nd round pick (which Benning got for Garrison) for Eriksson. Not to say it wasn't bad signing by Gillis, but at least Garrison had some value (and thats after a HORRIBLE season under Torts). Keith Ballard is more like on the lines of Eriksson (another horrible Gillis trade). Garrison actually played #4D minutes for the Bolts for a season or two after they acquired him.
  4. Tough to say. I do not we’ll be seeing the likes of Eriksson’s type deals from any GM (lower tier players). The top tier guys like EP will tend to get paid well regardless of economic conditions. Course I try not try underestimate the stupidity of NHL GMs. That’s why we have a salary cap. They can’t help themselves. This isn’t a shot at Benning (I’m referring to *ALL* NHL GMs in general)
  5. I'll take a 24 year old Tanev & Markstrom over MacKinnon. Build from the back end out. Granted I only say this because Benning drafted a legit 1C in EP.
  6. 26 goals just last season though (and that isn't even his career high). 6 million is alot to pay for a 4th line winger.
  7. Linden never played that way. Ever. Didn’t make him less of a player. Even when he was a Captain.
  8. Or when many billionaire sports team owners have their hands out looking for taxpayers money/subsidies when building a new arena (best thing one former owner of the Canucks ever did was put up the money entirely themselves when building current arena).....threatening to move franchise if they don’t get their way. See the Raiders. ***** them.
  9. You should see what is tattoo’d on my butt. (but that will cost you $$$$$$ )
  10. What's the story on Ty Smith? Just 'lucky' early with all those points (per game basis) as a defenseman (a significantly harder position to break into the league in that a winger).
  11. Yeah that’s fair. Plus I’m not afraid to admit I’m probably more wrong than right most of the time.
  12. He’s a rookie and has that hunger. He’s got the ‘Eye of the Tiger’!
  13. Jake still has upside (granted that window is closing FAST) so I think he’s a different situation than Benn. A lifetime Canuck, with a far greater role, was kicked to the curb without even an offer (Tanev); it’s a business and Benn hardly has lot of time in the organization (imho) to warrant that concern. I guess I just have a different opinion of Benn.
  14. I don't think you give any kind of term to a depth guy at that age even if it's only two years unless it's for basically the league minimum or amount one can fully hide in the minors.
  15. Team still is a very high skilled soft cream puff team. Or at least has a coach that says "don't retaliate, let them cheapshot you". (think that applied to each of the two head coaches Benning has hired).
  16. Ralph Macchio tells the story how when he was cast for the role in Karate Kid, they had to change the character’s name by adding a bunch of vowels . Talk about a series revisited does the original movie franchise honor! I suggest anybody who hasn’t seen Cobra Kai, give it a shot if you were a fan of the movies.
