  1. People can complain about how the lead was played by a white guy (though the character was supposed to be half white) but the fact remains that show employed ALOT of Asians in roles other than their stereotypical characters they usually played on TV at the time (e.g.., Hey Boy on Have Gun Will Travel & Hop Sing on Bonanza). A TV show ahead of it's time imho.
  2. Speaking as an old man , there’s this old story about how a bunch of Canucks were having a night on the town in Chicago......but they found themselves in a bad part of the neighborhood & were jumped by a bunch of youths who were up to no good. Problem for the wannabe tough guys, the guys they jumped were Curt Fraser, Stan Smyl, Ron Delorme, etc,. It was a short brawl before those wannabe gangsters took off.
  3. Guds wasn’t a MMA fighter but he could throw them if required. Problem was I think the coaching staff put the reins on him with that sort of stuff (as well as any player on the Canucks). Too much ‘turn the other cheek’ mentality imho.
  4. You do remember he went hard after Lucic when Ryan Miller was still the starting goalie?
  5. Can you explain the put-call parity theorem and the Black-Scholes model? I go for the "flip the coin and call it head or tails method".
  6. I *think* he was around the same age (or slightly younger) than Schmidt is now (Benning's prize off-season acquisition).
  7. Lol. Another Gillis first round pick Jensen plays for same team. Wonder why Gaunce didn’t sign there as well.
  8. Doubt many here will remember former Canuck draft pick Brent Ashton. 2nd round pick that managed to play at least one game for nine different NHL teams (998 NHL game career).
  9. You have to be really horrible to be out mathematically at this point. Like Kansas City Scout bad.
  10. The Sedins were the top two guys in their draft year. Both likely hall of famers. And there were ALOT of duds in that draft (including Stefan of course). Luck of the Irish (Burke) + hard work getting that other pick by him.
  11. Oh well at least this doesn’t hurt as much when Otto kicked in the series clinching playoff game.
  12. He could let him go and hire his own guys as many GMs would often do. Credit him for knowing who to keep in their roles. Sure, people will leave later but that’s the nature of the business.
  13. He’s the GM. Ultimately the buck stops there. Should get the credit or blame whatever the results of the picks. He’s responsible for whoever scouts are employed.
  14. Tallon also did that incredibly bone head move by failing to send in qualifying offers to his RFAs on time that one year. Lucky he was able to work out deals after the fact. Much like how Gillis was lucky Sundin didn’t take up that 2nd year option. Sometimes one needs an element of luck which is beyond the control of Benning (or any GM).
  15. Again meh. That’s like saying what did the Sedins do before Gillis arrived.
  16. Meh. Bret Hall cleared waivers. So did Martin St Louis. Those two guys are legit hall of famers. Patently false that Benning inherited nothing.
  17. 24 year old Markstrom 24 year old Tanev 19 year old Horvat The problem was there wasn't any depth causing Benning to overspend on vets to fill out the team. But that wasn't Gillis' goal. It was to take the team to the next level & win the cup. He failed in that last part.
