(back when there were only six teams - where only three of them were really competative for a long stretch of that era).
Cleaning up some of those bad contracts that he handed out will likely cost us picks (which logically reduces the effectiveness of the drafting, clearly the club’s strongest attribute).
As to the thread topic...the ever ominous ‘higher ups vote of confidence’ which often is the kiss of death.
Well, when Lucic was still in his prime (as lethal for this actual hockey skills as well as his fists), he didn't prevent this guy (Lucic was even actually on the ice at the time) from doing his usual type of head hunting hits:
Most GMs do that. But man did we luck into not making that mistake. At least LE doesn’t hurt you defensively on the ice. All Lucic can do now is fight.
League tends to recycle bad GMs (or ones coasting on their past rep). Ain’t no way Benning is the worst. You don’t have to do anything and be by default not the worst (as there’s some really bad ones out there).
A guy like Jim Rutherford who has won cups as GM for two different teams makes the odd bloody awful mistake like giving us a decent forward for a significantly worse player Gudbranson.
StealthNuck would rather the Canucks go 8-74 with all eight wins against the Flames than 74-8 with all losses against the Flames.
And I thought I hated the Flames.
He might just be a bad player for *that role* (defensive center). Like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Just my gut feeling but I think Gaudette is better suited into an offensive role (but he's shoved into that defensive role because there's nobody else).
