  1. Relic never gave the finger to Nick Adonidas (though I'm sure he wanted to )
  2. I actually thought those two looked 'ok enough' as a pairing (they were after all, still developing/progressing). Weaker when they were split. I don't have an explanation for that as some players just have this chemistry together. Or in the case of two otherwise *LEGIT* top 4 guys (Bieksa & Edler) not having any chemistry when put together.
  3. His strong post-season with the Laffs might make him look for good money + term. Too bad, as I want him back as well. Leafs got a bargain in that trade in that (imho, admittedly biased) thought he was among their better blueliners in the playoffs.
  4. Might come to a close second as the worst move Jim Benning ever made. No, not hiring him as every GM makes mistakes (even good ones). Good GMs don't leave him on the job for multiple seasons after hiring & extending Willie D.
  5. Unfortunately due to age (33) it might be beyond his control (eg., father time, accumulated mileage from playing in the NHL, etc.,). Probably better suited to be on the third pairing at this time in his career but due to lack of depth on the blueline, will be forced to play more minutes than he should.
  6. This is the blueline that *largely* Jim Benning has assembled after 7+ years of rebuilding/retooling/whatever_the_****. One possible future Norris candidate & a whole of **** around him. Hughes is good but he ain't *THAT* good to be carrying a whole blueline. Particularly with ZERO strong defensive forwards up front (again, largely assembled by Jim Benning). Best GM the Canucks ever had according to one poster. Hirose himself is better than any of the defenseman not name Hughes that Jim Benning as acquired/drafted/etc in 7 years. Even failed hiring "Coach Bruce" was miles better than anyone Jim Benning has hired to be on the staff & it took less than a month for a semi-retired old man like JR to do that.
  7. In his "The Shadow" role, I'm pretty sure he held Marcel Dionne & Wayne Gretzky pointless as a Canuck during that year. I wish I could find youtube videos only of some of his shifts. I'll say it again, it was hilarious him "shadowing" those two (I'm not kidding when I said it was like two synchronized swimmers in action).
  8. Gradin was also involved the scouting of Mattias Öhlund & Alexander Edler.
  9. Ah...but you're forgetting the conversion to Melmacian years. 8 Earth years = 1 Melmac years so you're close to the same age.
  10. Neither Vaive nor Derlago had a cool nickname like "The Shadow". He would literally shadow a specific player on the other team as instructed by the coach Captain Video. It was hilarious as it was like watching two synchronized swimmers where Butler would almost mimic every move of the othe player no matter where they were on the Ice. It got to the point Marcel Dionne yelled at Butler at the bench while he was skating by "Aren't you coming Jerry?" when the later for whatever reason didn't come on the Ice (he was probably waiting for someone to come off the Ice first).
  11. Admittedly it was a pretty short list of one if you don't include goalies
  12. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=105112 Course some GM let him walk away for nothing.
  13. hey, at least it made the Gudbranson for Jared "40 goal scorer" McCann & a high 2nd round pick seem not so bad. Bad news is, the GM that Jim Benning manage to swindle in offloading that 3rd pairing defenseman was.......JR.
  14.

Epic tweet by "Luke Skywalker"

  15. I still shake my head how that guy went from playing in essentially a beer league in Sweden to the NHL in such a short time. Absolutely insane development. I don't care how Gradin found out about him...that was a real find by our REAL Swedish amateur scout.
  16. Ohlund had this mean streak which would appear if somebody tried to p*ss him off. Ask Mikko Koivu when that player tried throwing an elbow in the direction of Ohlund's bad eye. Edler went into "Ohlund Hulk mode" that one playoff series against the Kings.
  17. I speak for the entire forum in that I'd be willing to sacrifice Alflives for short term gain.
  18. That he was able to put up those points (even in that inflated points era) is a testament on just how good he was even while playing less than 100%.
  19. Not just Todd Bertuzzi but also a mid-round pick who turned out to be this guy: As well of course one of the MAIN assets Burke used to be able to draft both Sedins (McCabe).
  20. Don't forget that JR did Benning a HUGE favor by taking off our hands Gudbranson (obtained by dealing a future 40 goal scorer & high 2nd round pick). He's an ok guy to have on your 3rd pairing but not at $4+ million a year. Gave us a servicable player in return as well (Pearson).
  21. Toronto didn't do much during the seasons Vaive was on that team. I think a couple times they went beyond the 1st round (and that's it falling in the 2nd round). Tiger help bring about respectability to the franchise. Franchise did squat prior to his arrival. Not even advancing beyond the 1st round in the few times they made the postseason. That changed, albeit only for a short-time, when Tiger wore the Canucks jersey.
  22. Barry Pederson actually had one or two decent seasons as a Canuck but he was 'damaged goods'. Boston knew that (reason why they wanted to unload him).
