  1. He won't be able to dress up as a member of KISS in that state though.
  2. Jim Benning was close. He ended up being literally a "number two".
  3. He really had eff'd up hands fighting literally everyone as a Canuck. That had to have an impact (negatively) on his offensive production (not the least of which he'd be sitting in the penalty box for that time.
  4. "Keith Ballard + Victor Oreskovich for Michael Grabner + Steve Bernier + 2010 25OA (Quinton Howden)" Funny thing is, none of those "assets" acquired by the Panthers amounted to anything. Still, the trade was horrible from the Canucks POV since it not only wasted assets for a crap player (irrelevant that the assets were of no use to the Panthers, they were still real assets at the time) but cost us valuable cap space which made it especially bad.
  5. Well I'm not sure Linden is a 'modern day Prometheus' (apologies to Mary Shelley ) but it sure seems like Benning is a modern day Epimetheus (Prometheus' dim-witted brother).
  6. Garland is very useful on the ice even if he's not scoring points. Issue is, he isn't cheap (cap-hit).
  7. We aren't the only team to be fooled by one strong World Juniors Tournament (problem with placing too much emphasis on just one tournament). The Maple had two strong goalie prospects at one time (yeah I know weird eh?). One of them had a strong tournament playing for Team Canada so that likely influenced their decision to go with him & unload the other guy. You know who was that other guy? Only a guy that eventually won a Vezina (Rask). The guy they kept had a NHL career shorter than Eddie Lack.
  8. They had just drafted "The House" Jim Sandlak so their thinking was that we had a "surplus" of such players. They got fooled from Sandlak's World Juniors Tournament performance where he was like a man playing against boys. Well, he was in that he matured physically faster than the competition. Problem was, once he got to the NHL, he'd be playing against MEN. He wasn't remotely as effective.
  9. Except for that little thing about the 1st round pick that went along with Neely. As I've said before, guess who was available in the 1st round (of the pick we gave up): https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl1987e.html (hint....look at who was picked at 15th). Hell there's probably a few HHOFers on that round.
  10. Woo just started to turn around his development last year. Little point in rushing him into the lineup & undo that positive progression. Especially given the poor blueline makeup at the moment.
  11. Hello Arizona? This is Vancouver, we've got this Myers contract that was front end loaded. Every GM makes mistakes (even good ones). I'm sure there's going to be an opportunity for them to acquire another high cap hit but low salary contract.
  12. Bobby Orr in his prime couldn't carry soon to be 32 year old OEL.
  13. https://canucksarmy.com/news/report-canucks-rejected-opportunity-reacquire-roberto-luongo-ltir-purposes-panthers-before-retired-2019 benning.mp4
  14. I was thinking of this ship under the Jim Benning regime:
  15. Miller is 30 years old now. Hasn't shown any signs of slowing down but he isn't young anymore.
  16. lol no contender is going to give even a cheap contract to OEL.
  17. The LARGE cap dumps that Arizona took at LONG OFF their books. Meanwhile they got a 1st round pick for their troubles.
  18. Wait...that was following the mess left behind by Mike Gillis.
  19. Fair enough. Course not being the worst is a pretty low bar imho. I mean doing absolutely nothing will mean you're better than Jack Gordon.
  20. At least Jim Benning isn't the GM anymore. He was at his best when he had no cap space to work with. As soon as he did have the cap space, you started to see contract like LE, OEL, and even Gudbranson. Among the worst pro scouting in franchise history. JT Miller prevents it from being the worst.
  21. He turns 32 years old next month coming off a major injury.
