  1. Playing against the Russians....Tony Esposito >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ken Dryden.
  2. Sure it would be great if we had a Scott Stevens as his partner but I think Hughes has progressed to a point he doesn't need one to be effective. Granted being asked to carry a guy like Myers for example might be asking a bit much but I don't think Hughes needs to be babysat anymore.
  3. That doesn't sound like Joe Sakic. It depends on the makeup of the roster. Sakic had Forsberg as his number 2. And of course, Patrick Roy in his prime. etc., etc.,
  4. That is true. Imho, there is Quinn, then Burke ..then everyone else.
  5. Burke just couldn't get a goalie. His achilles heel. Course he had a mandate from ownership to cut costs (which didn't just obviously include players but probably administrative staff like amateur scouts). He had to deal with no cap (a position made worse with the mentioned strings attached to the team budget). JB had the green light to spend, spend, spend (like Gillis). That's a real advantage. Plus for all of Crawford's faults, he's bloody Bill Belichick compared to the two stiffs JB hired *IN SEVEN FREAKING YEARS* as head coaches. And unlike one former Canucks GM, he *NEVER* blown one (let alone TWO) top ten draft picks as Canucks GM. Can't say Allen is a blown pick since he did play over 700 games at the NHL level. OJ had fewer NHL games than bust Brendan Gaunce.
  6. Sad that I don't think he was quite the same after running into teammate Eric Lindros during a game. Actually we (Canucks) were the opposing team that night. I'm reminded of how we lost our Captain Kevin McCarthy (though in practice & not a game) just before that fatefull 1982 playoffs when McCarthy ran into I think Gerry Minor & was unable to play that entire playoffs.
  7. Unfortunately even that doesn't mean alot since the 'loser point' was started. For example, under the *DISASTER* season of Torts, team actually was just a bit over .500.
  8. I don't think they're actually "paperboys" anymore. Seems like its now grown adults driving in cars making newspaper deliveries. Probably been like that for decades now.
  9. Coilers are like a poor man's Maple Laffs. They're sort of Maple Laffs West.
  10. A teenage Ryan Reynolds: For a "kids show", The Odyssey was actually interesting: Filmed in BC!
  11. There's a reason why his contract wasn't insured (serious medical issues). Give a guy a one year deal? Sure. But a multi-year deal? Not that smart (imho). Etem was acquired for a bust Gillis pick & late round pick. He's *WAY* down the list of disappointment players (imho).
  12. You got hooked on his "spin-a-roony" move. I forgot which "old-time" used to do that move to get around an opposing player He probably got that move from them.
  13. Good that Savard eventually matured as he got older. I remember how early on his career he really couldn't handle the stifling defensive system he had to face against us in the 1982 playoffs (Jacques Lemaire would've smiled like a proud father at Roger "Captain Video" Neilson ).
  14. Except even a non-fighter like Nicholls probably would've come off the bench.
  15. Kind of reminded me of Mike Gartner (minus Gartner's solid defensive skills). Able to consistantly put up the points for a lengthy period of time.
  16. I've said this MANY times but, if he stays healthy, the rest will follow (his goals). The rest is gravy (imho).
  17. US scouts haven't been too bad for us under several GM teams. Same with European scouts. Shoot the domestic (Canadian) amateur scouts into the sun.
  18. To be fair, he'd be lucky to get 17 NHL games under the Canuck teams with Vigneault (imho). Fact is, for teams routinely not making the playoffs, there will be spot available. *MANY* spots available for prospects to fill-out the roster. Had the skill but not the brains.
  19. I'm not sure I'd be willing to call Allen a blunder. Underwhelming? Sure. He was a unremarkable but solid physical defensive #4 that had a fairly lengthy NHL career. He did have a rather typical Canuck luck start here though. I think he broke his leg getting out of the bathtub or something (no joke, he did suffer a major injury that wasn't 'on ice' related). He'd look great beside Hughes today (not that Allen is a 1st pairing defenseman, but he'd be out there mainly to make sure nobody took any liberties on Hughes).
  20. You mean "rich dad". I think Jerry Jones at least himself made his fortune in business. And at least he won championships. A *LONG* time ago in a galaxy far, far way.
