  1. Oops. Not the last time I'll say something stupid.. I will give Jim Benning credit by not honoring the NTC when he acquired him (as was Benning's right) Tampa. Brilliant move all around that trade.
  2. Better time might not be until the offseason (gives more teams to work in his cap hit and I too think he'll rebound & raise his market value).
  3. Because he was asked to waive it near the end of the trade deadline. He didn't leave anybody in the lurch. Jim Benning "ran out of time". His watch has been broken for 7 years. Jason Garrison *ALSO* used his NTC clause to nix a deal but in that case, Benning actually worked ahead of time to unload a guy with a bad groin & got an ok asset (2nd round pick) without taking any salary dump in return. He didn't wait until virtually the last minute to unload Garrison.
  4. Yeah that letting Tanev go was the bigger mistake. No planning ahead. If you want to move on from a player, you don't let him walk for nothing (especially somebody that had value like Tanev).
  5. Benning from what I call had the old "ran out of time" excuse (eg., waited far to long to decide to move him; which is silly because unless Hamhuis was playing like dog****, you trade a guy you have no intention of signing far earlier in the season rather than close to the trade deadline).
  6. It's not garbage in a sense of lacking offensive skill. It does lack any blueliners much less forwards that are better than average defensively (seems like OEL is hitting that wall that all athletes hit - father time). That places A TON on pressure on Demko.
  7. He still ended up being better than any "replacement". Chris Tanev, who knows how to play defense on D (strange concept) *might* be still the best defensive D on the Canucks if he still wore the uniform some *EIGHT* years later.
  8. As I said, he's a 'one in a million' type of player though. Jim Benning right now might be able to make our squad as the #7 D.
  9. In his defense, that isn't his natural position. One of the toughest positions to switch from (winger to center). Not many can do that well. Trevor Linden comes to mind, but he's like one in a million.
  10. Ask Potvin, he'll tell you himself. Nobody with a bigger ego than him. Granted he was legit elite (which probably makes me more mad lol) That's what I liked most about Orr (despite him being a Bruin lol). Humility up the wazoo. Problem with Orr was that the medical procedures at the time were pretty bad. That and he rarely avoided taking a hit in order to make a play/pass.
  11. If JR's defense, Boeser's "qualifying offer" was pretty much around what his current cap hit was. JR only had limited choices, trade him (which would've netted little value considering the "QO" required to sign him), let him walk free; or re-sign him.
  12. No playoff team is going to take on Boeser's contract right now (which btw will put them several million over the cap) and his zero goals (Mayfield actually has scored more goals than him this season so far - difference being a fringe player like him makes "only" $1.5 million. Isles GM would laugh & hang up on the call if JR called him.
  13. To be fair, we were never in a position to draft Yzerman & we did draft future hall of famer Cam Neely in that draft. Course we dealt Neely & a 1987 first round pick for Pederson. That 1987 draft year saw some nobody center from Burnaby (drafted in a position where we could've selected him had we kept that 1st round pick). Some Joe Schmoe....(Sakic )
  14. Maybe I can pay $8 per month to be Elon_smelly_Musk (and have the verified checkmark)?
  15. Well he tried (and failed) in trading for defensemen who were barely better than a 30+ year old Jason Garrison with a bad groin. For all his skills in amateur scouting, professsional scouting was often a hit or miss affair.
  16. Could be just an "off season" for him. Given how he's played for us in his career, I think of all people on the roster - he's the one that earned the right to have a 'mulligan'. It's just unfortunate it happens to be this season.
  17. It's the fault of Mike Gillis. (like how Albertans still look around for the 'bad guy' when you say the words "National Energy Program" or "Trudeau" three times)
