  1. To be honest, I view an effective 3rd line actually *more* important than an effective 2nd line in a "traditional hockey sense". An effective (defensive) 3rd line will provide more 'benefits' for the club than a "complementary offensive support 2nd line". Especially since this team already has a legit 1st line (and not just because "somebody" has to play on the 1st line).
  2. Don't knock it until you try it.
  3. One of life's mysteries....Juice & the Eagle. Two otherwise VERY solid top four guys in their prime. Each capable of carrying their pairing. But the two of them together? Nightmare city!
  4. Alberta's tax rate is lower so that has to be taken into consideration in terms of total contract value.
  5. Think it costs five bucks for water at Rogers.
  6. Sometimes the best move is to do nothing (in this case, if you're not offered much for Miller).
  7. I thought this was the Mike Gillis thread for a moment.
  8. lol...I'd trade EVERYONE off the roster if it meant a guarantee'd Stanley Cup win (just ONE).
  9. lol. I doubt they care after winning two (almost) three cups in a row.
  10. Sutter was fairly good at it (once Willie woke up lol) but unfortunately his accumulated injuries (and COVID) took it's toll on his body.
  11. Tampa Bay won two cups in a row after trading him (granted, that's more of a case of just how deep that team was).
  12. Find a friggin' real defensive center (hopefully the new guy can handle that duty) might help. Since virtually day one, Horvat has been handling the bulk of the tougher defensive assignments (has to effect his offensive numbers since he's supposed to concentrate of preventing the other team's better forwards from scoring rather than scoring himself). Even when Sutter was first acquired, Sutter was put with the Sedins by Willie!
  13. Hamonic played well for us, when healthy (and pre-Covid). Dickinson NEVER played well for us. IMHO, that's a huge difference. One might have been a has been but the other guy was a 'never was'.
  14. I'm not sure I'd look at it that way. Look at all the "assets" the Panther got for Keith Ballard. None of them really amounted to anything more than a cup of coffee for Florida. Even Grabner who turned in a ok NHL career so far, didn't do it for Florida (who effectively lost him on waivers the first year they got him). Still doesn't lessen just how horrible that Gillis trade was. TB got cap room in that trade which I assume they took full advantage of (and won two cups in a row after that trade). Only reason Jim Benning lasted as long as he did despite the team been HORRIBLE for much of his tenure was his drafting.
  15. OT - how does that old bean counter joke go??? "An actuary is profession accountants go to when they have no personality".
  16. I'm just of the opinion we would've been just better off in the long run keeping those picks & acquiring other picks/prospects with the cap room (as Loui E's contract was over after this season). Hopefully, I'll be wrong as in the end I want the Canucks to succeed....whoever is running the ship.
  17. Looks at our farm system right now....I dunno about that.
  18. You can mitigate the loss of those two picks by acquiring other picks which the Benning regime always failed to do. It's totally perplexing. Again, failing to take advantage of the club's greatest strength, amateur scouting by giving them more 'lottery tickets".
  19. And he walked away for nothing. Like Hamhuis. Like Tanev. Like Markstrom. We've got strong amateur scouting now but we seem to want to avoid taking advantage of that. at least the previous management.
  20. Oilers amateur scouting don't seem much better than what we had under Gillis. Although that 9th overall pick would still as good as any pick (weak draft or not) Gillis had to work with.
  21. OEL was 30 years old. He's played well for us but we have no business dealing futures (weak draft or not) for that imho. Benning inherited an aging core that included old man Edler at 29 years old & Hamhuis at 31 years old for example.
  22. Well a 1st & 2nd round pick are hardly peanuts (not implying we didnt win that trade btw). Especially for a team with a suspect farm system right now,
  23. Lol, for a brief moment I thought you were talking about Dan Russell & his sportstalk radio show. Those were the days when listening to the radio was entertaining.
