  1. Were your parents one of those that sold parking spots in front of their house for a few bucks.. ahhhhh, those were the days when the PNE was open
  2. Just a bad joke my friend. I'm in a bad mood today.
  3. Alf was going to drive him to the airport but couldn't fit him on his electric scooter.
  4. I seriously doubt DiPietro has much trade value right now. Myers's contract may end sooner but he's also several years older.
  5. Helps they had Grant Fuhr in net. And while Paul Coffey wasn't going to win any shutdown D awards, he was like Hughes on steriods in his prime. Nobody even marginally close to that on that team today.
  6. I was going to add Devo as they had the right "attitude" for being a punk band but their music was more of a blend of that and 'new wave'. (I'm referring more to their earlier stuff)
  7. To be fair, Neely was only 20 years old at the time on a horrible team (& horrible the year before). Tough to develop under those conditions/ Neely turned into Ringo Starr while Jim Sandlak was Pete Best.
  8. I didn't catch them until 1983 at BC Place. lol, the backup/warmup act was Bryan Adams. There was a opening act for the opening act as well! Old timers might recognize the band though. It was the Payola$. Many more are likely familiar with that bands guitarists later work as music producer for a number of Metallica's albums (The Black Album, Load, Re-Load and unfortunately St Anger). Bob Rock. Man the acoustics seemed awful to me in that old dome....
  9. "That's like being told you're the nicest guy in prison" Jim Cornette.
  10. Yeah it's much the same arguments Ive seen when comparing Miller & Lack's numbers. It's far different pressure when you're just considered the backup than the starting goalie. Much like a C facing most of the other team's top forwards. To Miller's credit, he's fully taken advantage of that fact.
  11. Had a good season from Miller & Lack was a capable backup that season as well from what I remember.
  12. Sedins had a little gas left in the tank. Each Sedin was in the top ten in points that season. When their offense dried up, the team fell off a cliff in subsequent seasons.
  13. Yes, Schneider. Was putting up Vezina like performances until injuiries zapped his career.
  14. Still can't get a goalie to save his life. One Cup ring on his GM resume, he inherited that goalie. Even Nonis acquired a legit starting goalie by trade & also drafted one.
  15. I think OJ suffered a little from the Brendan Gaunce syndrome. Did alot of things good to ok but nothing great. Injuries played some part but imho, he was an a good junior team & benefited from that. And Brendan Gaunce will might end up with a longer NHL career than even Jake Virtanen.
  16. To be fair, that damn Dead Wings managed a coup in the 7th round - Zetterberg. But that was CLEARLY an anomoly (lol 210th overall!!!) and doesn't go against your premise that the 1999 draft year was indeed blech (eg., you're sometimes going to get a "fluke" prospect in a good or bad draft year but he's the exception not the rule). OT: It shows to me Thomas Gradin ain't dumb. He saw how in depth the Red Wings European scouting was and "urban legend" says that he found out that the Red Wings had SOME interest in some unheralded Swedish prospect playing in a beer league. Once he found who that was, he went to see to player for himself & got Burkie to acquire an additional higher 3rd round pick to get him before the Red Wings. That guy was Alexander Edler. This is part of the reason Burkie trusted Gradin's judgement (on the Sedins, Edler, etc.,).
  17. Speaking of Patrick Stewart.... But yeah, FANTASTIC character actor (David Warner): More weird stuff: Privateer 2 an odd mix of space age computer simulator game with an unfinished movie just kind of slapped together. Still worth a look if not for the actors (Clive Owen, Christopher Walker, David Warner, John Hurt, etc.,)
  18. re: 1999 NHL draft.... At one time or another, we've had 6 out of the 28 players drafted in that 1st round play for the Canucks. Two of them are the HHOFer Sedins of course. The most "successful" of the remaining lot was the "look into my beautiful blue eyes" Taylor Pyatt.
  19. Two-way contract so it's likely just a free lottery scratch ticket (with several things already scratched off ).
  20. Incredibly awful scouting. They thought Dickinson would be a capable center when he mostly was a winger in Dallas. The premium he got was for being able to play center. Oh sure, he can play center. He's just AWFUL at it.
