Yeah Hughes is a legit out of the ballpark home run pick. Even if you ignore all this stats, "numbers"; just look how he was able to progress (or not look like ****) largely under the minor league head coaches Benning hired during his tenure. He was able to get better *IN SPITE* of bad coaching. Guys like EP didn't (which shouldn't be really a knock against him imho).

All you need is this set of wheels and you're good to go!

Pat Quinn had the toughest rebuild job than anybody else. He had to compete in an era where there was no cap and while we had great owners, they didn't remotely have an endless supply of cash that our current owners (under both Gillis and Benning) have constantly been willing to give the green light to management to spend. Pat Quinn's only fault was that he was too loyal. Not that he gave it freely but once he trusted you, you can AWAYS depend on him. To me, there is Pat Quinn.... .then everyone else

It's so hot, I was tempted to go walking outside in nothing but my speedos but I didn't feel like getting a 'misdemeaner' for disturbing the peace (as well as blinding any unfortunate souls that saw me).

Jim Benning hiring of "Dumb & Dumber" for our head coaches makes him fight for that spot imho. EP was looking like a ghost of his Calder self. And he was hardly the only "Calder candidate" that looked like **** under these minor league head coaches. You can draft all the home runs you want but most (Hughes seems to be the exception) need good coaching. Took all of less than 30 days for an old man like JR to *FINALLY* hire a legit NHL head coach (something Jim Benning was given 7 years to do & got us "Dumb & Dumber"). Look at the difference in EP from under Travis "The Blender" Green & Coach "They still call me Bruce"!

All this Gillis vs Benning stuff is pointless. *BOTH* had their real flaws that led to their demise. There should be no disputing that. As the thread topic, our blueline..... Our D when Benning was first hired Jason Garrison......29 years old (dealt for a 2nd round pick before the season started) Dan Hamhuis........29 years old Edler.....................28 years old Tanev....................24 years old Bieksa..................31 years old Weber...................25 years old Hutton...................21 years old Our D today: Hughes.................21 years old OEL......................31 years old Myers...................31 years old Schenn.................31 years old Poolman (lol)........28 years old Rathbone..............22 years old Funny how our aging blueline when Benning was hired (and yes, it was an aging roster no question), isn't THAT significantly different than the current blueline (a team that was supposed to be rebuilding). edit: I did this quickly, I might've missed a player or two.

No or little state taxes in Florida. In his tax brackets, that's a good chunk of change. $9.5 million in Florida is south of $10 million here. -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Rutherford's been in the game long enough to know how it's done. Now whether it ends up being the right decision or not who knows (NOBODY makes the correct choice 100% of the time). What we do know is that he's a seasoned executive with some success (two Cups on two different teams). That's the big advantage Allvin had over Benning, a senior advisor that 'knows the ropes" (like JR). -

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
NewbieCanuckFan replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't claim to know the answer. Perhaps a possible compromise is a shorter term extension (at unfortunately a higher cap hit) to 'buy us more time'. Give him full trade protection as an incentive to sign such a deal (as he's taking the risk here). -

I've said this before but he's NEVER had a "big money contract" ala Loui E. His current deal is CLEARLY below market value. He's 29 years old. This is his LAST chance at that big money contract. I doubt he'll leave 'money on the table' on any kind of long-term extension. -
