  1. It’s his third tournament, and given his draft position (and remember he spent some time at #3 in the pre-draft rankings) and the fact he is the captain, there is absolutely nothing wrong with expecting more than what he has shown thus far. The theory that anyone critiquing our prospects isn’t a “true fan” is one of the worst things I’ve seen peddled on this board over the years. But even though my expectations of him are higher than what he has shown thus far...even the slightest whispers of “bust” are idiotic. But given our hopes for him in the future he really should be able to show some offensive production in this tournament. I’d love to see Larianov shake up the lines for tonight’s game. I’ve seen comments here and there about his conditioning - even Podz himself commented on it having to be better - so I’d be all for getting him over here and learning from Bo and Petey in this regard. And his skating really needs some work. It’s fine in a tournament like this but he needs another gear for the NHL. A three point game vs the Austrians tonight is what the kid needs.
  2. Yep, I wasn’t bowled over by his World Juniors last year either. Look, I’m not even close to panicking about Podkolzin at this point. But, unlike some, I am quite able to admit it when he, or any of our prospects, are underwhelming. If he turns it around in this tournament - quite possible, perhaps even likely - I’ll be the first one waving about my Canuck-coloured pom-poms. I quite like Craig Button and his positivity about Podkolzin is worth noting. If Podz does go on and have a quiet tournament you know very well the Vancouver sports radio media will ask him about it....and I’d be extremely interested in his take. lol at the Podz = 6’4” talk. About as likely as Petey being 185lbs coming into this season.
  3. Honestly hoped to have seen more from Podz after two games.
  4. I’m far from panicking about Podz and his development...but let’s be frank here...there are signs that his offensive toolbox might be more limited than initially thought. Stats aren’t everything, but his lack of them and his lack of ice time is something to consider. I do think the North American game is a better fit for what skills he does have. Need to get him over here.
  5. I think we may have just seen the fastest guy in the series. I had heard of Tuch’s speed. Now I’ve seen it. Play hard boys, finish this one up. On to the next game. TG has been doing some of his best coaching in these playoffs...hopefully he’s got some more magic.
  6. The speed difference between St. Louis and Vegas is stark. Yikes. And they throw plenty o’ hits too. I think the boys just need to adjust to this higher pace. We have the skill players to thrive in a fast game. Bo in particular seemed a few paces behind.
  7. As it was with St. Louis, it would be a very good idea for the boys to get a win in the ledger right out of the gate. And once again, after an absence of far too many years....feeling playoff jitters again. And it’s AWESOME and something I look forward to getting used to for many years to come.
  8. No, you try to score a goal to get back in the game. If that fails and they actually pad their lead then I’d say sure, let’s go into the gutter a bit.
  9. We have some reasons to dislike some of the missed calls....but the truth is the boys are flat and lifeless.
  10. This game has been hard on the ol’ ticker. You know, I’ve been toying around with this idea for a few days now....but I think it’s pretty clear now that Quinn Hughes is our best player...and it might not be all that close. He’s 20...and still looks like a 14 year old with an above average amount of facial hair.
  11. Not often you can say Sutter has been more impactful on a game that Petey. Come on Petey, turn it up a notch or two.
