My god man. Another one on the list of Alf’s greatest “hits” on this forum.

I understand that there is a lot of hope tied into Tryamkin’s return. The obvious size and good mobility for that size is clear. I watched him closely when he was here last and I liked many aspects of his game - my god the stick reach was INCREDIBLE...but he WAS quite slow to process the game in some regards. Quite often his go to zone exit technique was a bank shot off the boards or glass when he was under just moderate pressure....the result of this was a lot of icing calls. Then there was his well documented difficult adjustment to the high conditioning standards of the NHL. And he didn’t particularly like being told to play more on the edge. If the scouts have seen progression in his processing of the game and Tram expresses his desire to get here and work his butt off, I’ll be somewhat excited. But perhaps not quite as excited as others.

Clearly some of the ASG big wigs heard the buzz around Hughes’ skating and decided to put him in the fastest skater...not realizing that the most remarkable aspect of his skating are his turns and edges. His top gear, while good, is nowhere near the other burners in the field. Quinn seems to be much faster with the puck than he is on the back check sometimes. I think he would have kicked arse in the puck handling drills. I don’t expect him to fare that well in this....but then again I thought he was going to go through a bit of a tough adjustment in defending NHL players. So I am more than happy to be proved wrong. Maybe his edges will give him a leg up coming out of the corners with speed? All I know for sure is that I’ll be watching. EP and Marky too of course.

What is with your obsession with labeling people trolls if they show some appreciation for players not wearing Canuck colours? I’ve made note of it for a while now and it’s bizarre quite frankly. As Canuck fans we can worship at the alter of Hughes AND be able to recognize OTHER good young players on other teams. Dahlin is a great young player and COULD be better than Quinn in the long run. And you know what, I can say that in the same breath as saying that a Canuck Stanley Cup win is one of my greatest hopes in this life. Should we call YOU a troll for labelling Olli Juolevi a “bustaroo” and a “loser” in his prospect thread?
-
Good grief, not long ago you labelled him a “bustaroo”. Or...perhaps you referenced Craig Button calling him a bustaroo. Not going to scan this entire thread to find the post in question. Either way, premature take. JD Burke stated on Halford and Brough the very obvious dip in his skating level due to his injuries. He is going to have to work his ass of to improve it...but if he does he will be a solid NHL’er.

I’ll be cranky if we don’t win this game. You wouldn’t like me when I’m cranky. -
(Update) Quinn Hughes voted into NHL All-Star Game (Last Man Standing)

I wonder if he will get put into the fastest skater competition? Though, to be fair, I think his edge work is where his skating REALLY shines, not top end speed quite so much. -

Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaa!!!! Quinn was just magical today vs. Buffalo...just to make things even better. -
Huh....I guess I wasn’t talking COMPLETELY out of my ass a few weeks back...according to Mr. Larianov at least.

GMJB strikes again!

Oh, just saying because you are a youngin’ at the WJC’s doesn’t mean you cannot be an offensive force. I thought I’d seen folks explaining his lack of offence because of his still relative youth. Just 4 months older than Lafreniere, eh? Did not know. Thanks!
-
Clearly some folks saw Pods tournament differently than me and some others...who may have been expecting more “bull in a china shop” Pods than the somewhat restrained play that jumped out at me. I readily admit that the coach may have had a lot to do with not taking the shackles off him. His play seemed to err more on defensive prudence than offensive thrust to me. A whole bunch of Russians looked more dangerous offensively. “But he’s so young still!” I’ve heard it said. To that I would respond with “Lafreniere”. Is any of this really significant though? Probably not. Schoeder and Hodgson had monster tourneys. Bo struggled in his WJC. I thought that Quinn Hughes in his last world juniors was just ok. Look at these two Canuck pillars now...my god. So....any conclusions drawn from this tournament are likely pretty dumb. Cant wait till Pod arrives. Hope it’s sooner than we think.

Madden’s skating is what distinguishes him most from Gaud. I won’t soon forget an encounter in the last prospects camp where Hughes and Madden we’re engaged in the corner fighting for a puck, Madden came out with the puck and his acceleration in separating from a pursuing Hughes, no slouch in skating obviously, left me gobsmacked. Great hands and quick release on the shot too. Really, the size question is the biggest hurdle...but I don’t think this has mattered mattered less in the current pro game than it does right now. Having a stream of promising kids in the pipeline is one of my favourite things as a fan of this team.
-
Not ripping the kid at all, I think he’s a solid piece for the future for the Nucks...but I’m still surprised he hasn’t been a more forceful presence for the Russians.
-
I generally like and agree with Craig Button on many things. But not on this one. Hogs has high end skill that Burrows could only dream of...and I’m not seeing the “superpest” potential in The Hog. *shrugs*
-
The Hog could have had more points in the game . The Swedes had a 5 minute power play to end the game but the Swedish coach decided show the Czechs some mercy...as The Hog didn’t see the ice at all. Cant wait for Hogs vs Pods. Too bad someone has to lose.
-
Uh...he pretty much ran hogwild over the opposition. [insert groans here]
-
Holy smokes. Even from the seat of a stationary bike this is amazing. The people around me seem fairly clueless as to what is happening.
-
Dominant.
-
One of the joys of retirement is the ability to watch all of these games throughout the day...it’s even better when our prospects shine. I debated skipping the gym today...but it looks lime I’ll be watching the Hog’s final 2 periods from the gym tv’s. Hope the Swedes finish the deal...because I think we will have a Hog vs Pod semi-final.

The Fins just performed a defensive clinic vs the U.S. Utunen was a big part of that.

Utunen is just...ridiculously SOLID out there. Given the activity (or lack of) in this thread this aspect of his game doesn’t seem to generate much buzz.
