  1. Well, a bit of an alternative take on the lacrosse wrap around. He was behind the net, got the puck on the flat of his blade...and just flipped it over top the net, trying to bounce the puck off the goalies back and in. Unsuccessful, but the kid has massive ones.... Upon looking at the video again, maybe he wasn’t trying to bounce it of the goalie but just get it out into the slot.
  2. OMG Hog what did you just attempt?LOL.
  3. Craig Button just directly compared The Hog to Alex Burrows. Not sure that is the comparable that would spring to my mind. But he also declared Hogs line as perhaps the best in the tournament.
  4. I hope The Hog pushes to make the Canucks next year. I really think another player with a sniper mentality is what we need. Skill-wise, he is a definite up grade on Pearson and Leivo...though I still like those 2 guys but I think their spot in the lineup is too high. Hog is matching, if not exceeding my expectations I had for him heading into this tournament. On track to be one stars of the WJC. Awesome to watch. BTW...he’s tied for 3rd in tournament scoring.
  5. Don’t really think my post exhibited the requisite panic level to earn such gif usage, lol.
  6. Whoa. Pods not on the ice with the net empty and the US down a man thanks to a (dubious) penalty. Larianov, on deciding with this late game deployment, is obviously seeing what many of us Pod fans are. He has been somewhat disappointing. I expected him to be a force in this tournament. As a fan I’m a bit bummed...but I’m more bummed for the kid. Knowing what we do about him it may very well light a fire in him to improve aspects of his game. For one, his skating, especially lateral quickness, needs work. You can clearly see his “want to” out there...but too often he doesn’t seem to “get to” where he wants to be.
  7. Yeah, I’ll give Svech his due for pulling it off in the NHL...but, trying not to look through my Canuck-homer goggles...Hog looks quite a bit more fluid in executing that move.
  8. He actually looked a bit embarrassed afterwards...probably because of how easy he makes it look. Is it wrong to think he might be the best player in the world at this particular move at the current time? Kid has just the sickest set of mitts...
  9. Yeah. I’ll walk that comment back a bit. I actually try to err on the side of keeping prospect expectations in check. Let me say that his “playing style” reminds me very much of Messier...that mix of skill (some slick passes in this game) and grit (close to the borderline hit obliterated some poor Kazak kid into the boards today). Before he loafed about in Canucks jersey, didn’t Mess have a pretty good motor? Pods has this in spades. I have noticed though that he really looks gassed in the last third of most of his shifts. I’m sure that will change as he develops some big boy cardio. I’ll be laser focused on him in this tourney like everyone else.
  10. Born here. i don’t believe in ever abandoning your hometown team(s). Massive Seahawks fan as well.
  11. The Russians prevailed in regulation 5-0. Then they played a 5-minute 3 on 3 OT session. And get this...Pods blocks a shot in the overtime and hobbles off to the bench hurt. I may have mumbled something about “Canuck Luck” mixed in with a few expletives. But happy to report he returned to play on the last shift in OT. Then they played a shootout - for practice sake - but Pods wasn’t selected as a shooter. I will say something else. Pods wears #11 very well. Plays a lot like Messier in his prime. I hated Messier’s stint as a Canuck like everyone else...but I wouldn’t be opposed to Pods wearing it in order to wipe the stain of that legacy away a bit. Not sure how the Wayne Maki thing would affect such an idea though...
  12. Pods is playing right now and looking great in a line with Morozov and Marchenko in a WJC tune up game. The YouTube broadcast is a bit primitive in terms of production values, and the play by play is on Russian. But Pods looks GOOD out there and I think he has a couple of helpers so far. Watching him you can see why we shouldn’t get to caught up in point production too much...he tilts the game his way when he is out there. Admittedly, the Russians are barely breaking a sweat against the Kazaks.
  13. I’m starting to get a bit cranky now. From what I’m sensing I’m not alone. There is a distinct whiff of a season starting to get away from us.
  14. This game is big...not only because it is one of the most joyous of hockey-things to beat the Leafs...but also this is one of our games in hand over the teams we are chasing. All 4 teams above us have played 32...just 30 for us.
  15. What is striking to me about Hughes is he looks better - to my eyes - in the NHL than he did in his last year in Michigan and at his last World Juniors. Regarding the latter...I thought he was fairly average, which surprised me. Another thing watching him this year...I think he is holding quite a bit back on the offensive end...as if he is currently processing the NHL game to learn what he can and cannot do. Occasionally, he turns it on for a portion of a shift and just starts to make opponents look silly. I can only imagine what it’s going to be like when we get the FULL HUGHES. Should also mention how impressed I am in his ability to defend. The amount of times he has looked to be “in trouble” in his own end has been a rare occurrence. Still can’t quite believe he’s ours. I feel zero need to diminish Dahlin either.
  16. I’ve followed Olli closely since - well, even before we drafted him. It has never seemed that the dry land aspect of training really came to him naturally. I remember when he showed up for his second camp, and there were pictures of him at the various Prospects “bonding” events. He looked quite a bit bigger. Many people were excited, thinking he put on strength and might be better situated to challenge for a spot. I had my doubts. To my eyes he looked “puffy”. I attended the subsequent training camp and he looked sluggish as hell. Not sure what happened that Summer in terms of training - if there was an injury I don’t recall - but it doesn’t seem like he was ever the same after that training camp. I thought he looked much better in his first camp. I know he has had decent spurts in the Finnish league and AHL....but a fellow with this pedigree...it has just been disappointing. Feel bad for the kid too of course. And in no way am I declaring him a bust at this point.
  17. I’m at the game tonight...one of a handful of games I go to each year. Much excite.
  18. I think Ian and Murph should do their next intermission hit from a broom closet.
  19. Hey, speaking of that....was EP’s official weight for this season ever revealed? He still looks a bit Bambi-ish on his skates at times.
  20. I know his season totals are respectable...but Boeser really needs to be more impactful, more often.
  21. I’m currently in Mexico...it is 30 degrees Celsius, the beer and (decent quality) tequila is cheaper than water and my hometown hockey team hasn’t been this good AND entertaining for a long span of years. I will soon go out for an amazing (and shockingly inexpensive) taco feast and will return to our condo to watch the Canucks via the incredible technology known as a Slingbox. There are Canuck fans down here in good numbers...you can spot them easily by looking for a pronounced swagger or at the very least a very noticeable spring in their step. Life doesn’t suck right now is what I’m trying to say. A letdown game is bound to occur at some point, but hopefully not tonight.
