  1. Never thought I’d ever utter these words...but Schaller is in beast mode.
  2. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that some thought Hughes had a terrible game against the Oil. I chalk this up to the fact that he looks so damn different out on the ice from any D-man we’ve ever had. A critique of his “lack of motor” really caught my eye. I think what that really is is an uncanny SMOOTHNESS to his game. I’m pinching myself that we get to watch him (at least, barring injury *finger crossed*) 81 more times this season.
  3. I’m sure he’s heard whispers about his “muffin shot”. I have no doubts he’ll address it quickly.
  4. Loved what I saw from Myers, Miller and Hughes. Its actually a bit bit surreal, as a long time Canuck fan, to have someone like Quinn on our team. And he’s only 19.
  5. I’d like nothing more than ton of goals for the Nucks tonight...let’s say 6 or so with points distributed liberally among our young hot shots and stalwart veterans. But barring THAT...just win baby. And barring THAT...just make McJesus’s night a living hell.
  6. This team has some high quality humans. I’ll follow and put my faith in this team pretty much regardless of the team composition (within reason of course) but the fact the roster is so stacked with HIGH CHARACTER makes it a true joy that this is MY team.
  7. Interested in seeing how Quinn defends. Don’t recall him doing that badly in his 5 games last year. Is my recollection correct? That 3 on 3 OT shift with Brock and EP rather dominates my memory.
  8. Teves impressed me. Much more so than in his look at the end of last season. Could be that it was due to playing some of Calgary’s lesser-knowns, but his skating really popped for me. Goldy needs to be more noticeable in upcoming games. Same with Gaudette. I find myself pulling for both these guys.
  9. Just heard on SN650 deal with Brock will be done TONIGHT.
  10. Predicting the board will crash when it’s revealed EP’s current weight is 179 pounds.
  11. That Gif gives me pleasant feelings. At least I’m man enough to admit it.
  12. I only watched the 1st period of Pods first game and even from that small sample size I was blown away. The mix of power moves inside and outside, nice vision to find his teammates with passes. Finish was not there but it seemed he could create chances at will. Now watching the Hogs and Pods show while enjoying my morning coffee.
  13. Man, does Pods ever look big out there. And plenty fast to my eyes.
  14. I don’t discount the POSSIBILITY of a bit of a sophomore season challenge for EP, but I think the kid is special enough that I think he is more likely to be better...at least more consistent throughout entire season and power through to the end this time. And those point projections don’t seem to be allowing for the Quinn-effect. I think Hughes will have some growing pains (defensively) but I don’t think there is any way he doesn’t juice the offensive numbers of the Canucks top offensive players. For instance, assuming that EP plays the whole season with Quinn, I don’t see how EP doesn’t flirt with getting to the 90 point range. Not sure I’ve been excited for a season in a long time. Since last year at least.
  15. I was probably projecting a bit much when referring to Salo’s comments. He did say Olli’s dedication to conditioning needed work or something thing to that effect. I get that each human is wired differently but you know we will NEVER hear such things floating about our OTHER 5th overall pick. Like I said, I hope he’s rehabbing like a dog and shows up to camp and shows glimpses of his true potential (these were hard to come by in previous camps I watched). My comments about him looking soft soft defensively had more to do with a noticeable lack of quickness and strength rather than an absence of “want to”. I’m a Canuck fan. A huge one. But I’m not such a blind homer (oh boy are there a few beauties on this forum) that I can’t critique our players and prospects when I see reason to.
  16. This post sums up my feelings as well. Loved the pick... admittedly mostly based on his great WJC with Laine and company. Been pulling for him and will continue to do so. I’ve watched him very closely during his first two training camps and cannot easily shake the images I saw of him struggling in both instances. Very soft in defensive drills, easy turnstiled, even by lesser prospects. Post drills, bent over, stick against knees, gasping. Only Reid Boucher seemed more gassed after line rushes. Sami Salo comments seem to suggest that Olli may lack that intangible “inner fire” that burns in others to get better, stronger, faster... what someone like Bo Horvat possessed as a prospect. The injury history clearly hasn’t helped him on his path to live up to his promise. I’ll go to camp again this year and hope to see something different from him. I want this to be a great turnaround story for the kid.
  17. Love everything JB has done so far...until this. Will wait for an explanation by management until I judge it fully though. Love “The Hog”.
  18. Quinn has been incredibly dynamic in this game...admittedly against GREAT BRITAIN. Skating, edge work and straight line speed, passing...electric stuff. When he has the puck in the O-Zone you get the sense he could just rag it for an entire shift. The shot... still muffin-like. Not overly troubled by that given the elite nature of the other tools.
  19. I heard this while streaming 1040 in Mexico this morning. I sought out some of my BC friends here and told them. We are all stunned. I didn’t have to agree with every he said or wrote (I didn’t) to enjoy his work (I did). Canuck coverage will be GREATLY diminished without him. But of course that pales in comparison to the void left in his family. I don’t really want to speculate if any of his lifestyle habits led to his passing or not...but several years ago I was going down a dark path in terms of my health and I made some drastic changes (career wise (I retired), exercise and diet). Botch was just a year older than me and I have chills thinking what may have been my fate if I had kept to the status quo. So young....it’s so wrong. To everyone here..,please look after yourselves. Life....in particular life spent with family and friends is a precious gift.
  20. Canuck Luck strikes again. Coach Pearson said Quinn was getting X-rays as he was giving his post game interview.
