  1. Hmm...is EP aware that we pretty much screwed up the Tank about as badly as possible?
  2. I think it boils down to this....if you have been a Canuck fan long enough you sort of get used to not having nice things. Oh, things can be good for a while, but eventually things tend to end in tears. Now that things are looking up again with a young talented core developing....and PERHAPS some draft lottery luck....and now you allow yourself to start to dream the EP might be REALLY SPECIAL.. Well, some *raises hand* start to get a bit nervous that some shoe is about to drop. It's not great mindset to have, and I am striving to change it....but with EP, part of me just refuses to believe he is OURS.
  3. Thanks man...I'm aware of that site, but I'm in Mexico with an iPad. Not a good combo.
  4. It's killing me not being able to watch this. Sigh. *awaits highlight clips*
  5. So...how does one go about watching this? (I avoided the tequila-monster last night)
  6. I'm chillin' (wrong term..it's HOT) in Baja for the next month and we are on Mountain Time here...so...6:30 local time here is doable. As long as I avoid the tequila tonight. I'm on the record as being a bit nervous about throwing EP into the NHL at his current skinny frame - but even I am having a hard time maintaining my caution...my god, the talent....It's just that I don't want him to get broken.
  7. I haven't been this excited for a camp in a long time. I will be there, wherever it's going to be held, and soak in every minute of it. And file reports and impressions as I did this past camp. Not seeing the twins out there kicking everyone's ass in the line rushes is going to be very odd. Can't wait to see EP, and those magic mitts, in person. And with some lottery luck, perhaps a very special D-prospect...
  8. Okay, for me to bring my own fitness exploits (they are more than "casual") into the convo is pretty lame. It would be pretty dumb for me to say I'm even in the same ballpark as a not-as-well-conditioned-as-he-could-be-Juolevi....but I will maintain that in the category of old (but not as old as you think) retired-dude-hangin'-around-hockey-forum's....I might be in the ELITE category. But enough of this... Once OJ shows up at camp in September you can bet that everyone's favourite hockey sleuth Jeff Patterson will let us know quickly how Juolevi's Summer went. We really need this kid to be good guys...especially if the expected happens and we don't get Rasmus.
  9. Well, that was entertaining. My fitness levels as compared to Olli are irrelevant. My main point was that for OJ, for him to maximize his chances to make our team in the Fall (what we all want, yes?) he has to come into camp in the best shape, by far, of HIS life
  10. Well, Sami confirmed what my eyes told as I watched Olli in Training Camp. He was not in shape. Here's hoping that he learned from that and he will own it this Summer and come into camp in September ready to grab a spot. I get that he is young (and not everyone possesses the Bo Horvat dedication levels), and his skill level has allowed him to get by on his talent...but still frustrating to hear that he clearly has not prioritized his fitness level. I mean, I'm just some retired schmuck posting on a message board....but I'm still crushin' it 5 days a week at the gym - just because being fit, strong and healthy is a GOOD THING. Can't imagine not dedicating oneself to this if MILLIONS of dollars were at stake. Rootin' for the kid.
  11. I agree with this...yet...I'll admit to the slightest desire to refer to the kid as the "Magic Beanpole". I also wonder if there will be calls for a parade down Robson when EP crosses the 170 pound threshold. Apart from the jaw-dropping talent, the kid is so damn likeable. Lastly....some draft lottery fortune would really put a capper on what seems could be a fairly imminent turnaround of our fortunes as Canuck fans. This season bring to mind the quote "It's always darkest before the dawn".
  12. I'm right there with everyone excited to have this kid in our system. I do, however, hope that there will not be mass panic if his transition to the NHL is a bit bumpy. Ray Ferraro's latest thoughts on him are pretty much exactly my own. The smaller NHL rink will inevitably take away space for him to operate and increase the amount of physical contact....something that his current frame is not ideally built for. The kid is so smart he will likely figure out what he can get away with here. The predictions I see around here that he is going to show up and dominate (might happen) make me squirm a bit uncomfortably. Can't wait to watch every single moment of him at Training Camp....along with Lind, Gaud, Olli (put in the work this Summer man)....and the rest. Was tempted to add the obligatory Rasmus Dahlin....but that kind of behaviour will only increase the anguish when we don't get him. And I also dream of the day that Rogers Arena has even a FRACTION of the energy that Vaxjo's arena displayed in that video of Elias' breakaway goal. The play-by-play guy....what a GREAT call on the goal. Shivers. Let's get him coached on some rudimentary English and get him over here....hell, I'd listen to that guy in Swedish quite happily.
  13. I watched every minute of camp at Rogers Arena before this season. Enjoyed it immensely. With the flood of prospects due to attend main camp (EP didn't attend) next year...well, September cannot come fast enough. And who knows, with some luck in the draft lottery we may have yet another elite prospect to drool over. I just hope the team has camp at Rogers Arena again. That worked out incredibly well....Skytrain in from the burbs, get off Skytrain, watch camp all day, Skytrain home. Beautiful. Even an ill-prepared Juolevi couldn't diminish the experience. I'm incredibly bullish on EP...with the caveat that I've yet to see him truly dominate on an NHL ice surface. The world juniors was a bit tough to judge him on....with the flu he had and some rather bizarre Team Sweden player deployment decisions. My prediction is that his transition to North America won't be seamless....but he will figure it out soon enough. On the power play, with more room to operate I fully expect him to conjure up lots of that SHL wizardry he showed this year.
  14. I'm currently in Mexico and needless to say trying to watch the Beanpot on TV down here has been a bit challenging. So I am reduced to streaming the audio of the Boston University radio broadcast team - can't get the Northwestern feed to work. These guys take the word "homer" to a new level. Gaudette is probably a front runner for the tournament MVP I'd say. I hope we see him in Canuck blue before the season ends.
  15. Lol....EP stops putting up points and suddenly there is a desire to talk about Bo Horvat's "upside" and Juolevi's perceived inconsistency.
  16. Well, whoever is doing the colour commentary on the game brought up the comparison - it's not something I ever considered. This comment was made right after an end to end rush by Ehlers that certainly looked Bure-ish to me.
  17. I've always been in the "let's be patient" camp with Virtanen. I still remain optimistic that he can develop into a valuable player for the Canucks. The draft is a NOT a science...I get it. However, I've been watching the Flames/Jets game on HNIC and every time Ehlers is on the ice I feel a bit wistful. One of the commentators made a comparison between Ehlers and Pavel Bure in terms of style. It's not an entirely ridiculous statement. Human nature being what it is, I can't help imagine that kid playing for us. I think I'm entitled to these feelings while still being a Virtanen supporter.
  18. This Champions League hockey is actually quite entertaining....very fast. I'm going to admit to being SOMEWHAT underwhelmed by EP's World Junior performance. I think it actually has more to do my lofty expectations for him to dominate than the fact that he was in any way remotely awful...because he wasn't. Factor in the flu component - only EP knows how much it affected him - and it is possible that what he was able to do was in fact remarkable. Anyway, I've been a Canuck fan long enough to have watched the 1982 Cup Final on TV, and I wear my Canuck underoos to bed like any good fan does....and my desire for our own SuperStar is such that I'm really pulling for Elias Petterson to perhaps be The One. But I did see enough in the World Juniors to encourage patience with the kid....I see all sorts of comments saying he is a lock to make the Canucks next year - I am increasingly of the opinion that that would not be wise. Even playing amongst his age group, the smaller ice proved a bit challenging for the current state of his game - EP on the big ice is a completely different beast.
  19. Happy that Canada won. But...as a Canuck fan... Gadjovich benched, EP with an average game....and Lockwood injured and knocked out of the tournament. Ugh.
  20. It's a decent point...but as the leading scorer of the SHL, teams in that league are likely keying on him in attempt to stop him....and can't.
  21. The smaller ice surface is clearly not helpful to his current game. The space available to him in the SHL allows his elite hockey IQ to shine, while minimizing the effects of his slight frame. Unless Sweden is on the power play, EP's game is somewhat neutered. I was actually allowing for a decent chance that he might make the Canucks next year on talent alone. Watching this, I think it's highly unlikely....though not impossible. I really think the kid needs to cook for a few years.
  22. Utter BS. TSN, use one of your 5(?) channels and show the game. I don't require a play by man on it. I have a hard time believing that there isn't enough interest in the #2 English speaking TV market to justify this. It could be that I'm slightly grouchy today (on account of being slightly hungover) but damn, this is irritating.
  23. If EP was a Leafs prospect I'd bet my left nut it would be on TV.
  24. Someone please tell me that the Sweden - Belarus game is being televised. I'm seeing Russia - Czech and Canada - Finland....but not EP's first tournament game on TSN....
