  1. Well, I’ll say it right now that Bowey impressed me more than Burroughs did. But hey, I’m just some dude behind a keyboard who happens to like hockey.
  2. Very, very good news. I was thinking about the current state of our defense and while I agree it’s not an ideal back line I tend to think if our (much improved) forward group can play close to thier potential, especially in terms of offensive possession, the puck simply won’t be spending as much time in our own end as compared to last year. For this to come to pass we really need a healthy Brock though. A relatively healthy forward group in general I would say.
  3. I’ll give them a bit of leeway for the mediocre pre-season given that we were missing our (arguably) two best players and they were trying to integrate all the new faces and trying to figure out where they best fit together. But I’m not one to get overly negative before there is obvious reason to be. And to be hopeful is just a better mindset than to be than a perpetual doomer. That said, if we were to come back after that road trip something like 1W - 5L my concern levels will be significantly elevated. They simply cannot be in “chase mode” this year. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that returning from the road trip, at minimum with a .500-ish record, would be acceptable.
  4. If OJ develops into a solid NHL regular I’ll apologize to his stalwart defenders on this forum.
  5. Yeah, on top of the injuries there was the lack of inner fire and his dedication to conditioning was ALWAYS a question with him. I’m am sure, much like he did with Virtanen, Green tried to get through to Olli in terms of what it takes to become a NHL professional…but at some point the individual player must assume ultimate responsibility as to what kind of player they become. Juolevi, in this respect just didn’t have it. Would it have been great if Benning could have anticipated this when he drafted the 17 year old OJ? Absolutely. Dammit. Yesterday I said I was done talking OJ.
  6. Trying to lay OJ’s failings upon Travis Green or even Benning is beyond ridiculous. The kid flat out could not skate at an NHL level due to a litany of injuries. In particular, the rush to blame Green about everything is the highest form of lazy hockey analysis. The folks that do this show just how little they know about the game.
  7. Gotta admit the spelling of “genious” in the thread title made me chuckle.
  8. Nectar of the gods right there. Probably past time I picked myself up a bottle.
  9. Yup. And the fact that he’s had YEARS of experience in TG’s training camps yet he came in and allowed the “conditioning skate” destroy him like it did…make him appear unprofessional in fact…said a hell of a lot about him in my opinion. And just stop with the COVID excuse. OJ himself said it wasn’t a factor and that he felt “great” in camp. And lots of Canuck players had COVID. I hope he finds his game in Florida, as I hope Juulsen finds his game here. This was a classic trade in the vein of hoping a change of scenery can work wonders. For OJ, not sure a lame hockey market like Florida is the thing to light a fire in his belly though. Hometown for Juulsen, maybe. But then there is the Jake thing. But well worth a try, I agree with Jimbo on that. I think that may be my last post in which I mention Olli Juolevi.
  10. Probably Rathbone early on since some (the OJ fans) around here will try attribute some of the blame of him being traded away to Jack. Which is beyond dumb of course. But Rathbone can simply overcome this by becoming a solid fixture on our D-core. Which I think he will, sooner than later.
  11. It’s a damn shame about OJ, but at least we got a couple of assets coming the other way. A waiver claim of OJ wound have been disastrous. OJ’s defenders love to diminish the whole bag skate situation but I’m telling you Juolevi lost a TON of goodwill from his teammates AND coaches over that episode so I think he was pretty much gone at that point. I love how proactive the Canucks are being right now. And for the record, the mediocre preseason doesn’t worry me all that much. If they can claw thier way to a .500 record on that first road trip, they will be set up nicely.
  12. You are blaming Green for OJ’s injury history and his lacklustre development ? Lol, good one!
  13. It’s a good comment and I agree with it. But I doubt you’ll find a receptive audience for it tonight here. CDC is salty tonight, wowzers! Been enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with the family so missed the first half of the game. First thing I saw when I turned it on was Podz springing someone on a semi breakaway, and we looked pretty good for the remainder of the period I watched. And I think we are out shooting them. Has Demko been shaky?
  14. I get that if you are pulling for OJ to make it you might want to cling to this thought. But for him not play in the final pre-season game, as well as the last few games….likely means the writing is on the wall. Or he has an injury. But again, losing him to waivers would SUCK.
  15. They’ve done a pretty good job on keep the details of the injury under wraps. I just hope it’s not a return of his wrist issues. Hopefully just some groin tightness.
  16. It’s a valid point on the potential return for OJ. I’m not so low on him that I’d risk him to waivers though. As for Green playing favourites, well of course. He’s going to ice the lineup he favours to win games. Rathbone has had his defensive warts in a couple of pre-season games, but when you see him perform like he did last game against Edmonton, how he helps to elevate our overall team speed and offensive dynamism from the back….I’m right there with TG in preferring him over OJ. But I’m cool with folks who prefer what Juolevi brings to the table. But who knows, OJ may still have a significant role to play for the Canucks this year. I’m jazzed for tonight’s game, and while I don’t usually care much for pre-season scorelines, I wouldn’t mind laying the boots to the Oil tonight.
  17. I think it’s pretty clear that he is now definitely on the outside looking in. As disappointed as I’ve been with his development since draft day, he HAS impressed me with his improvement from the beginning of this camp to where he got to with his game during the preseason games. I’d really prefer he not be put of waivers and get claimed. Apparently he has been MIA from all team practice sessions of late, so perhaps he’s injured…or there is a trade in the works. I’d prefer that we get SOMETHING for him rather than lose him on waivers. The Gadj situation still irks me.
  18. Just went back and looked at your last handful of comments on this forum, and that one quite representative of their overall quality.
  19. A good lesson in not overreacting negatively early in a game.
  20. A lot to like even in a loss. Saturday night is gonna be fun.
  21. Anyone miss the doom filled posts (and posters) from early in the thread? No? Me neither! Win or lose, lots of good things to draw upon from this game. And….,NO GOAL FOR YOU OIL!!!!!
