I think it's more of his skill set that makes him look more like a 3rd line center with 2nd line potential rather than just looking at point totals. He doesn't really have an elite shot or elite puck handling, he's more of a grinder type with great hockey sense and that leads to a lot of points against lesser opposition. Also a lot of his points come on the PP I believe which isn't a good sign of points translating to the big leagues. Who knows though, he may come in and completely blow everyone away and surprise. Or he could come in and make us all wonder how he scored so much in the NCAA. Hopefully he's a Kesler type guy that will be an excellent 3rd line center that develops into an elite 2nd line center by his prime.

Black silver Lining? If Gadjovich could skate he'd have been a first round pick, it was pretty apparent out there that this is a major hurdle for him to overcome to be an NHL player. That's fine, almost every prospect has some sort of hurdle to overcome. Thankfully Gadjovich does seem to be quite agile and quick on his skates for a big guy, his skating could very well improve drastically with some better technique. Its ok to critique our players and prospects

Ya I'm sure there would have been more space playing the Andersson but earlier in the tournament that line didn't seem to gel much either except on the PP so I can understand why they tried to split them up, mostly seemed like Nylander was where the puck would go to die on that line. Just seemed odd when watching what Pettersson was doing out there, either trying to make too much happen on his own or when another guy would have the puck he would just stand there and wait for something to happen. I don't know, maybe I expect to much but he just looked kinda lost out there today. Lol, Nylander is a bum and I don't see him even making the NHL at this point. I expect more out of Pettersson
-
Ya what can you do I guess. Just had higher hopes for a better performance on the biggest stage. Just a rough game for a Canuck fan like others said. Dad benched and Pettersson not doing much
-
Pretty garbage game by Pettersson. Too selfish with the puck, kept trying to do too much and didn't use his linemates. Would have helped to have more talent playing with him but he tried to do too much by himself and it just resulted in turnovers.
-
True, hopefully our management is at least smarter than Edmonton and Pettersson would be used sparingly on the wing in a secondary role. I would say it's a small chance Pettersson makes the team but Gradin's comments about how he wanted Pettersson and Dahlen playing for the Canucks and learning from the Sedins keep ringing in my brain when I think about whether they should be on the team or not. If a guy like him thinks so then who am I to say otherwise. A lot will depend on how much Pettersson is able to physically develop over the year as well. I just look at Pettersson and he has already had a few nagging injuries this year and really would want to err on the side of caution.

I think he'll come back, he sounds like he wants to after his contract is done. He at least now knows what to expect and it won't be such a culture shock for him and his GF (wife?). I think we still have a few seasons of being a bottom feeder, realistically until Pettersson is making an impact as a top line player and we have revamped our D we'll be in the bottom, Tanev and Edler are getting older and it doesn't look right now that anyone on the roster is going to step up and be able to fill their shoes. Juolevi is the only real talent we have in the pipeline so let's pray for Dahlin and Tryamkin to come back or JB is really going to have to make magic happen to turn our D corps into a cup caliber crew
-
I think absolutely max we have 3, but most likely 2 or even just 1. Juolevi looks ready and played with men this year, I think he's about the only close to guarantee. Gaudette is the next most likely as we are pretty shallow at center and he plays a 200ft game, hard to judge until we see him play against pro's though, he may not be close to ready yet for all we know. Dahlen could surprise but most likely he starts in Utica and is a first call up, we don't have much room on the wings. Pettersson has the skill but I don't see him putting on the strength to be impactful next year in the NHL, he's getting pushed around against his peers, he'll be demolished on the small ice against NHL players last thing we need is to delay his development with a season full of injuries. Same thing happened to RNH when Oilers thought it would be smart to play him in the NHL as an 18 year old 160lb kid. Surprise surprise he was constantly injured during his first few seasons and his development completely ruined. There really is no chance Lind or Gadjovich are ready next year and make the team. I think JB made it pretty clear this year when he went and signed the Vets that he is not willing to throw rookies into spots that they aren't ready for. He'll go out on sign vets before leaving rosters spots open for rookies to inherit not because they're ready but because there isn't a better option. Seems like he learned his lesson from Virtanen and McCann making the team that year, it's much better for these young guys to earn their spots and ease there way in rather than being gifted them

Is Dad playing as the extra forward tonight? Don't see him on the ice much except for the PK
-
One more game to see Pettersson. Pumped!

Thanks for the honest write up. Nice to hear from people watching the games and watching without homer goggles on. From the little I've seen of Kole I noticed a lot of that kinda half hearted play as well. Just kinda giving up on the play if it doesn't go right, a little Goldobin esk. Great with the puck but needs to work on his intensity and play without it.
-
I think that's a bit dramatic to say he was a big dissapointment, he wasn't bad out there. He played steady reliable mostly mistake free defense. However there was a lot of hype coming out of Finland from his play out there so I did expect him to dominate more but he wasn't bad, he just wasn't dominant
-
Well that happens every year, even when our top prospects were Hodgson, Schroeder, Jensen, Shirokov and Sauve people would be writing 3 or 4 of them into the lineup. People always get a little over excited with prospects regardless of the team or quality of them. I do see a spot for Gaudette though, Burmistrov and Gagner were signed this year for center depth and both of them kinda suck at center. Really only Sedin, Horvat and Sutter are guaranteed bets to take a spot. After that it really becomes a crap shoot with no real quality 4th line center. Guance is an option but he hasn't really shone there and I think coaches prefer him on the wing. If Pettersson makes the team I highly doubt he'll play center, and that's a big if, he still needs to gain a lot of strength. Hell we don't even know if the Sedin's are coming back next year. Then we'll be even more shallow at center. Obviously like every year realistically only 1 or 2 prospects make the team, IMO Gaudette is the most likely forward to make it with our lack of depth at center and his skill set. Hard to judge until you see him against NHL players though, he could very well not even be close to ready. But ya I do agree that obviously only a couple of our prospects will make the team if any.
-
Agreed, now that he won't be just focused on gaining size and strength in the offseason he can work on fitness and explosive strength.
-
Ya you're probably right. I guess my only point is that guys coming out of the NCAA continually surprise with how they can immediately make an impact in the NHL. From guys on our team, Stecher, Boeser, or Hutton to guys around the league like, Schmaltz, Kerfoot, or Butcher. Gaudette is performing just as good as a lot of these guys that have made an immediate impact so it will be interesting to see how he does when he signs an NHL contract
-
I think it's just more that Sergachev is a lot more physically mature than Juolevi, Serg has always has the physical tools but it more of a question of if he has the hockey sense. Watching Juolevi at the WJC's you can see he is a lot bigger now and is using that size well, playing with men in a faster league has been good for Juolevi. I definitely see him making the team next year. IMO his only hurdle is getting his tempo and intensity up to match the pace of NHL play as he doesn't have the quickest feet and tends to play a casual style of game.
-
Gaunce, Gagner and Granlund have mostly been playing wing. I could see Gaudette playing as a 4th line center and moving up the lineup as he matures his game. Hard to say how Gaudette will fair as a NHL player, as always it's best to be patient and let guys develop slowly but we've seen it happen repeatedly with these guys coming out of the NCAA being NHL ready. Something about the style of play there that seems to prepare guys quite well for NHL play
-
Ya that play exemplified exactly what makes Pettersson so special. You could see him reading the play and he made the perfect read to intercept the puck and knew exactly where Nylander was. Elite hockey sense and vision
-
I hope so. I'd rather be patient and develop him as a center but I just don't think the evidence so far points to that happening.
-
That was bizarre. Coach had his 3rd pairing out against USA's top line with a few minutes to go. I don't think it was after an icing or there was any reason for it.
-
Good game by Juolevi, Didn't see him make any mistakes and defended well when he was on the ice. Didn't get matched up against USA's top line very much but when he did he defended well. Definitely plays an "efficient" style of game, it's kinda funny because you could almost describe him as lazy sometimes. But when needed he will definitely put in the effort to win battles. You can see he puts a lot of pride in winning battles for the puck. Also liked the way he would jump into the rush whenever there was an opportunity. Probably the best game I saw him play, wish the coach depended on him more to play against the top lines though to bring more of a challenge

Beauty pass by juolevi there
-
Juolevi taken off the top pp?
-
They had him on the wing during the summer showcase as well before he started playing for Vaxjo
-
He's playing wing right now against players his own age.
